  1. Depends how much more HP you want.
    Small increase with ECU remap.
Turbo is imo waste of money, yes more HP but you probably also need to change injectors and for sur ECU remap.
I guess the Civic 1997 already had CVT transmission? If so, I would advice not to modify at all.
But even a manual transmission will not add much fun. You have standard 106HP with Turbo you might get 50HP more. Even a 2l turbo diesel engine will give you easily 200HP these days so what do you want to accomplish?

  2. I don't know about the tarot card fortune tellers, but the Indian yogi gurus are another matter..

First time I met a guru in Delhi while travelling with a couple of Brits.. The guru insisted that he could read my mind to a degree, and if wrong no payment, but if right a donation of rupees equiv. 200bht.. I thought ok.. What is your mother's name? Oh Margaret, what a beautiful name.. Spot on.. How did he know? Think of a flower and spell it in your mind.. He laughed, you are thinking of chrysanthemum but you don't know how to spell it.. Again 100% correct.. Unbelievable..

One of the Anglo Brit friends was next.. The guru asked him, you are Indian but you are not? You are visiting home but you are not.. I don't understand your vibes fully..
The white Anglo Brit was apparently born in Kashmir, India, to missionary parents and wanted to see where he was born and lived as a young child.. Again, bloody unbelievable..

Fast forward about 15 years in Khaosan Road, Bangkok.. An Indian guru with a tightly wrapped turban approached me, good afternoon sir.. I interjected and stared straight into his eyes.. You want me to think of my mother's name and spell a flower in my mind, don't you?? He went white and looked as if he was looking at a ghost, and sharply retreated.. I kid you not..

Fast forward another 2 yrs in Soi Rambuttri near a temple I was approached by another self professed Yogi Guru from India [emoji1128]..
How sharp was he going to be? Very smart for even a bigger handshake..
I had an inkling of what to expect but he was astutely very smart..

He asked if I believed in god and I said I believed in a god as a creator and if he was correct how much would I give him if correct to any question put to him.. I thought I'd outsmart him and give him the impossible question to answer..

What was the name of my first wife, my last wife, and girlfriend I had most friction with.. And my current GF.. How much will you pay me if correct? 500bht.. You are joking yes, I think worth 1000bht if I'm correct.. And if you lie and I'm correct your god will remember that you've deceived me so be honest ok..

First was Maxine.. Second was Jeab.. Third was Sari.. Current GF was kind of wrong but he got her former social media name of Marvin.. HTF he got them right was unbelievable, and he wrote all names on a piece of paper which I've kept until this day..
He also asked me to name a fruit and my mother's name.. He came with Apple and got my mother's surname correct.. Believe it or not..
Yes a true yogi guru has magical mind power, and not easy to outsmart..

Ask him the name of my wife and I will believe you :) good story though...

  3. The scientists should stop complaining and actually do something.
    1) allow nuclear energy until clean energy is available
    2) develop more efficient food with less environmental impact based on algae.
    3) develop alternative for plastic, going back to paper and glass is not the answer.
    4) stop population growth, (this will be the most difficult) people are free to reproduce at will and world economies need growth.

  4. No. There is a guy who only comes out in poring rain with one leg dragging his body through the muck on Sukhumvit. I've seen him get 500 baht a time from gullible tourists and he is making big $
He can go get work sitting down in a factory but can make 10 more in the rain.

There are very few genuine beggers
    Who deserve street time.

Indeed, rain is his favourite weather, probably he glides better over the muddy stones. He is performing an act as there is no reason for his crawling. People who give him 500 Thb have intellectual issues.

  5. People selling flowers at intersections, is this begging? If not, what about a street musician?
I know a you girl who’s face and hands were severely burned. She is often seen begging on the walkway one level under BTS. So she is violating the law and so am I when I give her money? How else this girl has to generate income??

  6. Going 260 is imo not the cause, bikes like this one can accelerate to this speed in seconds. I guess he didn’t know this road and he should have inspected the whole stretch before attempting such high speed. He was with friends, and he was driving a superbike, I can’t imagine having such bike and not using a small part of the huge potential. Very sad he lost his life.

  7.
All modern cars have very good underseal and in 23 years with cars in Phuket I've never noticed any corrosion problem. But beware - vehicles of the 2004 vintage suffered much seawater corrosion in the Tsunami disaster. I bought a bike from a 'friend' leaving Phuket and a few months later I had to have the entire frame and tank rust proofed. Also bought alloy wheels as the wire spokes were done.

In Phuket my company has 3 cars and 5 pick-ups. I can tell you that in 3 y time the pick up chassis was corroded beyond repair. And also one of the cars was very badly corroded.
Why would I give advice to the poster without knowledge? My advice was to check carefully the underside of the car before buying second hand. I don’t remember stating that all cars in Phuket are corroded because of seawater.

  8. Yes it is possible, many university girls spend their nights in bars fishing for customers. The money is mostly not for paying school fees (parents) but for beauty products, clothes, phone etc..later in life they fall back into their expected social role.
Others are girls from poor families who want to make quick money.
The bar scene makes them spoiled and lazy and often hooked on drugs and/or alcohol. A marriage on average has a 50% success rate but girls with the above attitudes reduce the chances a lot.
The longer they work in a bar the closer they get to “the point of no return”
I have the impression that 15-20 years ago everything was more fun and less business. Now they hold the dance pole not to fall on their face not knowing how previous generations of bar girls were showing off and competing in all kinds of acrobatic stunts. Very seldom I go back and it looks more like a meat market where you can pick your number, have a 30 minute robotic sex experience and back at the pole. All night long. No idea how these days they can still make the switch to house wife...

  9. I am here now, I don’t know why I was born, but I surely know I will die. So instead of loosing my time in theology, I live my life very intensely. If there is a divine afterlife I will regard this as a bonus.
The universe, life, time is so relative and limits our understanding because we try to understand from our point of view.

  10. This again fits with earlier speculation that BJ's complete erasure somehow relates to the election and its outcome (to come). Gen Prayut's top assignment since long before the coup has been to keep the influence of one fugitive ex-prime minister Mr. Thaksin as far from Thailand as possible. He is now on a virtual rampage and all the other 'big's  are cowering. Also remember he stripped Thaksin's symbolic honors almost the same day as BJ was cut. Now BJ losses his police uniform!

Maybe as some say, it's all about BJ's grandstanding but I don't think that alone would trigger the PM so strongly when the PM is concerned so much about election outcomes.

Your observation can’t be far from the truth.
I also think that it is Thaksin related.

  12. Thanks for your reply.
I've learned on TVF to take these things slowly and let them develop. She is hardly deprived since she has no debt and no monthly expenses to speak of.

As many have advised its always a happy option to increase her stipend, but not the reverse. As I mentioned in my post I am strongly considering an increase, and I do understand how much I benefit from her company. I gave her ฿25,000 for the month she is gone to her family for Songkran.

You must have a mansion, or you are an utter slob if you pay a maid that much. [emoji12]Twice a month @฿1,000 each time is good enough for me.

I was living before in a international housing compound where salary of maids were more like 25k. I have no idea why you brand me as an “utter slob” On forums all layers are represented of course..

  13. I only read the first three pages of replies, and predictably they were a decent mix of humor and serious answers. But as others have said this is tried and true topic, but by no means irrelevant.

I'll give you a serious answer from my own limited experience.

I met a hard-working low-income girl from Phetchabun through a Thai friend. She worked 16 hour days in a small sidewalk bistro with her sister while caring for her bedridden mother by herself. Very decent large family who all have jobs and certainly no 'bar' experience and no debt except for her motorcycle. Her upbringing was crushing impoverishment and she knows the value of money. Married once to a Thai man for 19 years and divorced at 42, no kids and she doesn't regret that. .

She and her sister own a house they built and paid for jointly. She has always saved and spent her money well. Only a 6th grade education but knows right from wrong and is never moody or pessimistic like so many Thai women. When she occassionly becomes unhappy she just stops talking and it passes in a few hours; she detests conflict and simply won't let herself be unhappy.

After a few months of dating I asked her to live with me and not work. She cleans, cooks, died the laundry, teaches me Thai, and is a constant always-happy companion who refuses to let life get her down. She takes very good care of me and is very sensitive to my moods. We've been together for two years but I get the impression she knows it could end any time. She figures she'll just carry on somehow I guess. We are more sexually compatible than any woman I've ever known in my 60+ years. In short, she's a diamond in the rough.

I pay for everything in daily life including restaurants several times a week, periodic road trips just for fun at nice beaches and good hotels and restaurants. We go to the gym together, hit the beach several times a week, and enjoy each other's company. I got her a passport and we'll do some international travel soon. She's never been in an airplane or out of her country. She genuinely appreciates what I provide and knows she's got a good life now.

I pay her ฿10,000/month and some extra when she visits her family. I never ask but suspect she funnels money to her siblings who can certainly use it as both her parents are dead. I earned large graces with her and her family by paying for her mother's funeral house, which was of course burned later. I buy her a baht of gold as a necklace or bracelet once a year on her birthday along with clothes (I like to see her dressed up) and cosmetics.

I have intentionally never told her my net worth, and she probably won't ever know until I pass as she's in my will; not everything but a pretty substantial amount.

Other farang that know us both tell me I'm very lucky and I should give her more monthly. I'm m considering it now but want to wait to see if she asks for it. It's a perverted kind of test I suppose. I was burned badly in a 10 year marriage in America and don't plan to play the fool again in this lifetime.

Truthfully, for what she brings to my life and what I can afford, I should be giving her closer to 20,000/month. Time will tell.

50,000/month is ludicrous for the poser you describe.

Good women are out there but it takes time and experience to find them and recognize a good one when you see her. The rental experience so many here recommend is just not my style. I'm old fashioned that way and know the rewards of a stable longterm relationship. I'm well pleased that I found her at this point in my life.

    Good luck!

If this is all you can give, it make sense, if not, you are taking advantage of her situation.
She gives everything to you and for you she is worth a maids salary?

  14. Sorry guys: would you pay a salary to a girlfriend in europe or any other westernised country?
    No!!!!!!!
but here in Thailand men seem to loose their little of brain comoletly!!!!!

Wrong comparison, if your girlfriend would live in a western country earning 250 USD per month and you would have a salary of 5000USD would you expect your girlfriend to continue a full time job?? Many relations fail because “western” men don’t get it that their Thai lady needs income to be able to support her family. I see this as something positive that I can contribute financially. Of course there are limits and this depends on the individual financial situation, only give what you can effort to lose.

  15. 119 (PP)+52 BJT and 55 democrat = 226
If they can persuade the smaller parties then they could just about make it. (would still be hard i think so many parties but it happens in my country)

    PTP 135 + 86 FF + 52 BJT = 273  .. so yes parliament will work.. PM wont work

Just stupid that the senators can vote for the PM. totally stupid rule.

What i wonder is if FF goes in a coalition with PTP and BJT will they accept all the corruption that comes with it or will they be strong enough to blow it up when it gets too bad.

Yes but this rule is voted by the people...
