Just got back. NO NEED TO SHOW FUNDS FOR MULTIPLE ENTRY NON O.
I will do a full trip report Tuesday.
Short and sweet: guy looked at my paperwork for NON O based on married to a Thai and Thai son. He took out the real marriage certificate, did not look at the original tabien baan.
Wrote M on the application, M on the receipt and M on some other paper. Done. Out in 5. Did not ask for funds.
Thank you for much needed confirmation/clarification. Seems some have been telling tales for who knows what reasons.

Don't know what the last 2 pages have to do with the topic at hand. It is becoming vitriolic and we need this post to be up for the rest of us.
Looking forward to your update early next week upon your return. Hopefully can get this thread back on track with the latest requirements.

Hi Tex,
I was in the same situation as you a few years ago minus the employers requirements (which I am curious about).
In any case, for each rostered leave I would just fly in and get my 30 day stamp. Never overstayed as I had to be back at work before the 30 days ran out. Did that for about 7 years. There was no problem for me as I was not living or working in Thailand (which is what the authorities are looking for--guys with back to back exemptions living and working in Thailand without proper visa and work permit). I.e. doing a border run the same day.
As well, they could see I had a long-term work visa/residency permit in my country of employ--work outside of Thailand and just come here for holidays.
You should have no problems with Thai Immigration, though your status as a US resident may be effected. Also, not sure of the stipulations of your employer. Seems strange. Please inform.
In any case, perhaps print the link another poster provided about visa exempt countries. That should do the trick.

you can predict the future? Please let me know your bank account info, I'd like to send a donation.
Huh? I am not predicting anything. Just trying to give sound advice. I.e. don't mess your body up with antibiotic cocktails prescribed by TVF posters that are not licensed MDs.
But yes, PM me and I will send my bank details. Look forward to your huge donations. I am already predicting something in your future...

Oh the way, do you think I need to tell her honestly about my situation? Or shall I just go there and let her find it out first before I can tell the whole story? I don't know her and she doesn't know me. I don't want to appear as if I am trying to manipulate the entire situation at my benefit and at the expense of her expertise/profession.
Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa ConnectFirst, get professional medical advice. It is your health and far more important than a work permit. Do not seek medical advice on a forum (i.e. prescriptions from anonymous posters) . Third, be honest with your doctor. They will tell you what is or is not possible for your situation. Go see Dr. Donna as ricklev has suggested.

1800 Thai baht for Cdns (most recent trip Jan 2017). Can pay in THB. Do not try to pay in CAD, they will not accept it. They do however provide change in THB. Hope that helps.

Just doing her job, mate. I dont think anything to worry about. I get grilled @YVR everytime I go back and Im a bloody passport holder: "Where you been? Why? What do you do over there? Why are you coming back? Any accompanying children? Would you mind if we checked your bags?" etc. With all the BS going on with global migration nowadays, Border Services/Immigration of any country play a key role in keeping everyone safe and it is a tough and thankless job. I dont mind to wait a few extra minutes if it means nabbing some bad dudes.
That being said, never had a problem in Thailand since 1999.

How many hours is required in Laos to obtain Visa Exemption at the border? I would rather not stay overnight if no time for SETV.
Once through the Lao side, simply turn around and come back. Depending on the line ups it should not take long. My last trip I was back in Thailand within the hour.
Don't forget you will need a Lao visa. Just apply and pay at the windows when you arrive at the border crossing on the Lao side.

Ibis Nam Phu. Clean, modern rooms. Elevator. Key card. Great service. And conveniently located in the heart of it all. Next door they have an outdoor food court/beer garden (basically take outs from the various restaurants in town) and some times live music. Around the corner (literally out the front door and right) is an authentic Italian place as well.
Only down side, no pool. If that matters to you.

Not sure they will help foreigners, but the Labour Min. also has a team of dedicated and overworked lawyers that work pro bono. I know someone who successfully sued their employer for wrongful dismissal, backpay plus damages. Give them a try. They certainly did seem helpful in the case I mentioned above.

As previous posters have mentioned, no need to return to Canada to apply for a new non-o (marriage) visa. The nearest and most convenient Thai consulate or embassy should do. However, I have heard conflicting reports about proof of finances--i.e. different consulates have different requirements. I have used Savannakhet in recent years, and no financial proof required. However, I have heard Vientiane requires it.
In any case, no need to return to your home country to apply. My Thai wife and I have been all over. When returning to MY home country to visit family, she need only apply for a visa at my embassy in the country we are staying and not apply in Thailand. I think the same should apply in your case. Good luck.

Even with existing buildings it is not too difficult to add some proofing systems, says my California experience.
I tried to apply it in my own structures, which was very difficult because the workers refused to listen to me. Farang not know Thailand !
One even told me to go take a hike when I suggested he do a certain thing my way.
Houses will continue to collapse during eartquakes, no matter our expertise which is not appreciated. After 6 years of building here there are no requests for any kind of (free) assistance.
Off topic (but to do with the raise of min. wage to 360).: neither is anybody around here interested in part time work, like a contract for 2 days a week doing upkeeping of land and buildings.
Nobody interested in work here period. Had some locals approach my wife about borrowing money. I offered a job (1 or 2 days) to do some odd jobs around the property. All good.
Showed up (late) and wanted the money first before work. Wifey told them they must complete the job before getting paid. They turned around and left. Still see them 8 months on, unemployed, blasted on lao khao by noon, grooming their fighting cocks and mooching off their relatives who have jobs and provide them a place to stay. Amazing.

No government - elected or unelected - should go ahead with this disaster in the making. An unelected Govt should not be making decisions like this. Bangkok riding roughshod over the people whose homes and land it has been for centuries made under a law that gives one Thai absolute power over 60-70 million thais. Doesn't seem right.
+1.

Yes the NRA and/or NRSC can propose Bills, but only directly related to "reform or reconciliation". The Senate can bulldoze such Bills with a 2/3 majority. Section 280 expires within 5 years.Section 280 looks like it will cause some fun. My understanding is that it empowers the unelected National Reform Assembly to propose new legislation, which the Senate (unelected, but no doubt good people) can themselves alone approve.
This will end well.
The 200-member Senate includes 77 directly elected representatives from each province (albeit with each of the maximum 10 candidates per province/constituency having been pre-screened), 58 representatives (also screened) from diverse sectors, 30 Agriculture/Labour/Academic/Community/Local organisation representatives selected by themselves (no screening); 15 representatives from existing registered associations (again self voted, no screening), plus 20 former Permanent Secretaries or equivalent.
To state the the Senate is unelected is not quite accurate; but to state that is is wholly elected would also be inaccurate.
It seems someone with the necessary level of energy, and (equally important) high boredom threshold has actually taken the time to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest the draft document.Perhaps he might even have a conclusion in due course though from a recent article in Big Chilli I fear it will be tinged with the colour of gold, butter and ripe lemons.
In the meantime Bloomberg has a sensible editorial on the whole sorry business
Good reading. Thx for link.

Just making it up as they go along. Recently purchased the Somchai 2000 weather machine. Some old git that looks out the window once every couple of days. Head of dept living overseas complete with Benz etc. Will report catastrophic weather event after the fact. www.weather.com or www.AccuWeather.com much better than the somchai 2000 if u really want proper forecasting. Not even close.

I would hazard a guess that the owners don't even fly their own airline when they travel
-
Had roundtrip bkk to krabi on this airline. As we boarded, there were other 1-2 Go planes on the tarmac with parts lying out in the open.
It was an old MD and all the signage in the cabin was in Spanish. It looked like it had been retrofitted for more seats and oxygen masks with shoddy riveting job above the seats. Seats looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the 70s. Cabin crew looked tired, unkempt, and some had runs in their nylons and old grandma shoes.
I immediately got uneasy.
Decided to book Thai Airways for the return to bkk.
About a week later the Phuket crash occurred.
As someone earlier mentioned, this airline shouldnot be allowed to be in business, but the owner and his wife are "people of status" here.

Surprised they didn't give this bigshot the requisite 7 days advanced warning that they were going to arrest him so he could get his affairs in order and flee.

"Her office will gather pictures of too-much revealing models at the motor show for using as evidence for taking action, she added. "
I need to see the evidence before I can make a judgment.
From this post on I will only make one comment: This place is <deleted> (in every possible good and bad way).

Notwithstanding the ridiculousness of the "deity" holding a laptop, it has always been my understanding that Buddhism was a non-theistic faith. So how can they have "gods?"

If you read the Wikileaks, you will see the USA Embassy knows a lot more than the average Thai Visa poster that has been just reading The Nation.
You see, there is no free press in Thailand and you are only reading what they want you to read. Sad but true.
The material that is blocked or banned has been read by Washington.
Agreed. I read the Wikileaks information about Thailand, and it was absolutely
fascinating. Actually blew me away would be a better choice of words....
Excellent reading for anyone who wants to know what actually goes on here.
Regarding American policy and Thailand, at some point Thailand needs to
wake up and realize it is no longer of any importance to America. With Thailand's
history of being a fair weather friend, as well as being a bit of of turncoat, and its
shift towards China, America has no interest in Thailand no matter what its deluded
leaders here believe .
They have been playing the middle against the sides for
so long they are like a marshmallow, so really the country has no value as an
actual ally....... Clearly this was proven in WW2 when Thailand was quick to
jump into the Japanese camp.
JJIII and EWO,
Can't find said emails on wikileaks. Would be extremely interested to give a read if you could provide link(s)?
Cheers!
