  1. But here is the best part:

"The provincial police threatened those who have criticized the signboards.

[We] intended to campaign to reduce road accidents and preserve revered Thai culture respecting seniority. However, the signs have been posted and shared online which caused a lot of misunderstanding towards our objective, the post reads. [Were] asking those to stop doing such behavior because some comments were found distorting our intention and violating the Computer Crime Act and Criminal Code."

  2. This is the next step toward a open, free, and fair referendum on the military's latest version of an inclusive, respectful, democratic constitution.

A good read on this referendum from Pravit can be found here: Charter Vote a Time Bomb in the Making

I'm actually glad that The Lapdog Nation fired Pravit, he has more latitude at KS. thumbsup.gif

Great article, thanks. A very bold commentary (given these uncertain times).

  3. So if Abhisit launched the first criticism without ill effect (no 10 year prison sentence), it stands to reason every other politician and party should have 1 free go at it as well.

My question is this, can he ACTUALLY just personally choose an individual and have them locked up under Art. 44? Or is this all just "it's my party and I will cry if I want to" dummy-spitting histrionics?

  4. To answer the OP, not if I had more money than brains. BKK condo prices are on par with Vancouver, Canada if you consider price per sq ft or sq m. That being said, one would need to take into account location, views (none in BKK), access to public transport, services and hospitals, cost of living (very high in Vancouver), and other quality of life issues. I suppose it depends on one's lifestyle and the reason they are buying the condo (retirement, long-term plans to do bizniz in Thailand etc).

However, I would reason that you may get more value for money (in the property itself) throwing some money at a condo in Vancouver (Canada's most expensive city).

To reiterate, if I had $200k to spend on a condo I wouldn't spend it in BKK. But that's just me. We are all snowflakes.

  5. Nice of AMLO to give the tax evaders and hoarders ample time to make other arrangements. IMHO, like anything else in Thailand that involves the connected they are given ample warning to get theirs acts together. In the end, I suspect the AMLO probe will conclude that any Thais that had setup shop offshore did so legally and all taxes were paid up in full (in the form of brown envelopes). Nice little earner for the AMLO people.

They may however announce another crackdown on outward bound overseas transfers and parade a few low level businesspeople in front of the cameras. But the big fish will get away. Par for the course I am afraid.

Interesting to note that the PM who has been quite vocal about small issues such as taxi scams, beach chairs, red bowls and calendars is thus far mute on this breaking int'l story.

  6. Would be interesting to know which (as yet unnamed) fat cat is behind Laem Nga Development Co Ltd. and why they felt the need or desire to close the public road not only in the first instance but again after the initial "talks."

Unless of course the company was sold land with a dodgy deed. Which begs the question, "Why didn't they have their legal team conduct due diligence?" A quick trip to the local land dept. would have sorted things.

  7. "The duration of the training course has been set as 30 day maximum or it can last just one hour depending on the trainees whether he/she understand the course or not, said Gen Prawit, adding that only those who are critical of the government or the junta will be sent for attitude adjustment."

Well, that pretty much sums it up in nutshell. Dissent and discourse will not be tolerated for the foreseeable future.

Any so-called elected govt will come from a select group of hand-picked candidates that are guaranteed to support the agenda(s) of the powers behind the scenes that hold no public office and are far from public view or scrutiny.

While elections will make great window dressing, it will be a deMOCKracy. A faux representaive govt that is simply a showpiece to keep up appearances.

  8. Damn scary. But not surprising. Will be interesting to see how many of the "dark and influential" figures are actually political opponents. Once they are out of the way then onto those pesky students and academics. Then it will be time to go after anyone who dares offer an opinion that differs from the state sanctioned propaganda.

Expect things to get worse as the Kingdom gets nearer to the event.

  9. They do not deal in palladium, but try the Vancouver Bullion and Currency Exchange (www.vbce.ca). They deal in gold, silver and platinum. They also deliver the actual coins/bars internationally. They do not deal in certificates.

They also offer competitive fx rates (typically better than the chartered Cdn banks), so you can buy your bullion with almost any major currency without having to change to CAD (they will calculate the price of the bullion in your chosen currency).

Hope that info is helpful. Good luck with your investments.

DO NOT ship any bullion either legal tender coins or bars to Thailand, as Thai customs will demand heavy duty on it even when they are not meant to. They held 500 oz of my silver hostage for 3 days and it took me threatening to have the Bank of Thailand get involved before they released it to us. This, after we had high value import specialist from Brinks and G4S verify with them that no duty or tax would be charged on legal tender coins. They said one thing, then did the opposite once they had the shipment. They are the most corrupt organization in Thailand, and no high profile law firms in BKK even wanted to touch the case. You have been warned....

    Excellent info! Thanks.
