  1. Ibis Nam Phu. Clean, modern rooms. Elevator. Key card. Great service. And conveniently located in the heart of it all. Next door they have an outdoor food court/beer garden (basically take outs from the various restaurants in town) and some times live music. Around the corner (literally out the front door and right) is an authentic Italian place as well.

Only down side, no pool. If that matters to you.

  2. "Although Jenphops family initially said he would only stay in the monkhood for two weeks, his uncle, Charoen Yodkaewlah, told reporters today that he decided to continue his religious retreat for an unspecified amount of time."

Seems this POS has taken a page out of Ol' Dhammachayo's book. Seems to be working for the abbot, so why not?

  3. Had a similar encounter a few years back. Luckily for me, I was standing up and when the python realized he was bested by the overwhelming size of his one-eyed foe, recoiled in shame and slithered back down the sewer.

Speedy recovery to the gent! Given the superstitious nature of Thai culture, his member may now be seen to be imbued with some supernatural powers!!! Maybe that's why he is smiling...thinking of all the ladies that want a piece of his action now. Haha.

  4. "PM briefed on national development progress"-shortest meeting in history one must suppose.

"The premier urged all sectors to help expedite national reforms by promoting a greater understanding of the administration's roadmap, which must be achieved next year."-but what is the roadmap?

Is going backwards really progress? I suppose if you use negative integers the junta is making great leaps...BACKWARDS.

  5. Here is an idea: liberalize bank lending policies so that people who REALLY need a loan can get one and lock up the loan sharks!

    Everybody wins.

Unfortunately, many times the people who use loan sharks don't "really" need a loan, but they desire to have (for face reasons) a new phone or Ipad or big TV or whatever. They only think of paying the interest while the principal gets further away.

Agreed 100%. However, there is a small group of Somchai's that need small, short-term loans to fix their tractor etc. that may noy qualify for a traditional loan and are forced to seek the "help" of loan sharks. It would be nice if the banks could relax some of their lending policies (perhaps with some incentive from gov't). It wouls be good for the banks, good for the consumer and good for the economy. But, ooops! I am dreaming again.

In any case, you are spot on. Not a pot to piss in, but have all the latest gadgets and up to eyeballs in debt. Sad really.

  6. Try City Leasing in Bangkok. They MAY (no guarantee) pay out the current lender and MAY offer more suitable terms. Though it all depends on what is in the original lease agreement. The other option is to sell/trade-in the car and buy something that fits within the budget?

Either way you slice it, you are going to get shafted one way or the other. Best to try and find a deal where you get shafted less.

  7. Did the Thai reporter to broke the story get any awards ?

The junta does not seem to be effectively dealing with anything other than beach chairs and bicycle lanes.

Lottery tickets, credit where it is due, lottery tickets.

And detaining political opponents for voicing their opinions. Don't forget that. But other than that, you are right. What have the junta ever done for us?
