edwardflory replied to 123Stodg's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub

Thai Ranger Calls Out Italian Tourists for Damaging Coral Reefs
edwardflory replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"""tourists who do not follow the rules or ....not listen to officials when it explained....it is a closed area to protect the coral"" Once UNIFORMED(?) officers told the tourists, they should have obeyed instead of argue and be ...physically... restrained - reward them with fine and deport. The tour operator should(?), probably did know a protected area, refund tourists money, be charged and fined, bussiness licence suspended for a period of time. My opinion. -
"""I save a lot of money living here rather than my home country""" After I deduct all I am legally entitled to deduct, I am under the tax table. If I was above the tax table I WOULD pay a income tax because of the OVERALL benefits I - the family have, living in Thailand. 2 prime examples: 1) We have a 2BR house, yard and etc, in a gated community, I pay 4500bt a month rent. In my home country, the 1BR apartment I formally lived in is now 24,000bt a month. 2) Electric, about the same service ( minus a dishwasher BUT adding a stand alone freezer ), AVERAGES around 1800bt a month - with a stay at home wife. My old apartment ( when single ) I never got a electric bill LESS than 5000bt a month and I was NOT at the apartment, due to working, 10+ hours a weekday - Sat & Sun off. Considering the monies saved living here, paying a reasonable income tax ( around 15 to 20% ) would almost be a godsend.

Clampdown on Parking: Pattaya Enforces Strict Odd-Even Rule
edwardflory replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I would think, because of the international status / nature of Pattaya, signage ( words ) should be in at least 3 languages. Thai, English, Chinese - at least on Beach Road - time numbers are almost universally understood. Add a no parking graphic between the wording and the numbers. -
Desperate Husband Offers 20,000 Baht for Missing Wife's Return
edwardflory replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
20,000bt? I spend that on groceries monthly. I would think with a 'tribe' at home, and being a contractor, ( working? ) more reward would be offered for just information. -
Finding Good Reliable Generic Drugs in Thailand
edwardflory replied to kingofallasians's topic in Health and Medicine
Military Hospital ""Are there any around Bangkok?"" NAVY Hospital on same bus route as old immigration office on the river. GOOGLE to find out location or OTHER military hospitals. A friend got the ORIGINAL drug, NOT generic, at the BKK NAVY hospital and said he paid slightly over generic cost. A PHYSICAL cost him $7.00USD. He has reuped his script at the same hospital several times. I have never had a bad experience OR been over charged at the NAVY hospital in Suttahip, or at the ARMY hospital in Korat - where I now live. -

Finding Good Reliable Generic Drugs in Thailand
edwardflory replied to kingofallasians's topic in Health and Medicine
Register at a THAI MILITARY HOSPITAL. Get a physical there ( under $10.00 ), discuss your medicine needs with the doctor. When I 1st came here ( 12 years ago } I registered at a Thai MILITARY hospital ( free Hospital I D Card ) and got the EXACT meds I paid ( WITH co-pay ) $63.00 ...A MONTH... in the US. I paid $21.00 FOR 3 MONTHS SUPPLY at the Army Military Hospital. Check it out to see if a MILITARY hospital it fits your needs. I pay the same cost for services as Thai civilians using the hospital -
Can Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Expect Fair Legal Treatment?
edwardflory replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Having been a member of the FTPA for 4 years, I found that the MAJORITY of people having serious run ins with police ARE at fault. Have seen tourists refuse to pay bills at restaurants, drunks exposing themselves in bars, men refusing to pay for the girls time for a "walk on a moon lit beach", men argue they paid a bar girl in the bar for sex and didn't get, bar arguments ending in fights, drunks harassing women of ALL national origins, and so on. Most problems were settled with a stern warning and explaining the law / regulation by police or FTPA member. I would say maybe 10% were arrested and charged. The one time I remember was a drunk, fighting / attacking anyone he saw on the street - it took 2 FARANG and 1 large Thai to get him down and in cuffs. He was arrested. -
Thailand Introduces Biometric SIM Registration to Curb Scams
edwardflory replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Food for thought. American national, 12 years with same numbers. Combined "bill" for all. 1) I have 5G WiFi - passport required by provider & copied. 2) I have 2 sims in my phone - passport required by provider & copied. 3) my wife's mobile is on my bill ( 2 years ) - sim is registered in her name, her ID required, my passport required & copied. How is biometric gonna work for us. What could go wrong...... -
Phuket Raid Captures Four Foreign Hackers Behind 560M Baht Scam
edwardflory replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
5 years would be a good " vacation" time for them for violating Thai laws. THEN Deport to the Swiss, let them take care of the rest. -
Which Android TV box to achieve high speeds?
edwardflory replied to YorkshireTyke's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Try a ""ORIGINAL"" TX-6 box priced around 1300bt, 4/32, on Lazada. Been using mine with great success 3 years - Android 9 tho. I do have Fiber 5G connection, and Netflix comes in great on their apk, as well as THAI TV and USA TV on various other apks. The extended family lives out in middle of "no where", and they get a BETTER play back signal and speed on the TX-6 compared to the provider supplied TV box -
A 90 day report ( TM-47 ) is due when you PHYSICALLY stay in Thailand 90 straight days. Day 1 is the day your foot hits Thai soil past IMMIGRATION, no matter the time. IF you do your report early, ( most offices allow you to do up to 5 days early ) day 1 is the DAY you DO the report. AGAIN: Your new 90 days START on the DAY of the report.

Ways to Reduce Medical Expenses in Thailand
edwardflory replied to CharlieH's topic in Health and Medicine
Register ( <== FREE ID Card ) at a THAI MILITARY HOSPITAL. You pay the same cost as Thai civilians using the military hospital. Have been using 11 years. UPSIDE: many MILITARY doctors are US or UK trained - English is good, service is excellent. DOWNSIDE: ...SLIGHTLY... more expensive than civilian hospitals, WAY WAY way less than private hospitals. -
I had a odd situation. My extension was issued in a US Emergency Passport ( 1 year ). Officer transfered the TM's to Emergency PP 2 days after retirement extension was issued, got the phone call that my US 10 year was available. Picked it up, Emergency PP voided. Immigration Office told me to bring the 3 passports to the transfer. Told the officer who did the transfer I had all 3. The officer checked all 3, changed the date on his stamp to the date that was in the Emergency PP extension, transfered the TM's to new PP, was done in 15 minutes. EVERY office is DIFFERENT, check what YOUR LOCAL OFFICE POLICY IS, then no problems.

Thailand Assures Public: No Coca-Cola Recall Here
edwardflory replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"""...struggle to find original flavour and when I do I ...""" 7-11 the 13bt, ( ..small.. bottle <== best taste, my opinion ), red cap, LOOK on the bottle label for white lettering that says "original taste". In a can only in emergency. -
Retirement extension
edwardflory replied to offset's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
What is required.... The most accurate answer, go to YOUR LOCAL IO and find out THEIR requirements. They should have a printed sheet of paper with WHAT THEY WANT. -
Where in Pattaya you go to get "affirmation of freedom to marry"
edwardflory replied to Pattaya420's topic in Pattaya
....Didn't know they had agents for this! Please do provide us with contact details. Thank You! ... YOU have to PERSONALLY swear the OATH before THE Embassy OFFICAL. Been there, done that, 6 months ago at US Embassy. Then 2 hours at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and done. Get at the Ministry EARLY morning!! -
Where in Pattaya you go to get "affirmation of freedom to marry"
edwardflory replied to Pattaya420's topic in Pattaya
I'm a YANKEE 1 ) visit YOUR embassy and get an 'Affirmation of Marital Status' certificate - You swear a oath you are able to marry at your Embassy - once INSIDE, a 2 minute process. 2) have it translated by an official translator ( The CORRECT translation is EXTREMELY important ) 3 ) Go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( in BKK ) to have it certified - THEY WILL CHECK THE TRANSLATION - might take 24 hours till done. ( Take your "to be" better half with you for sometimes needed translator) NOTE: IF translation NOT approved, there are 'agents' walking around on main floor to """help""" you - usually takes around 1 hour for you to get corrected translation. Then back to the Ministry for round 2. -
"""Sure, but if the Exit/ Re-entry stamp has not been used does it change anything about 90 day reporting?""" Why would you have a re-entry stamp if NOT using it? Stamp does NOT reset the 90 days if you stay in Th. That stamp gives you permission to re-enter Th without loosing your NON-O status If you PHYSICALLY stay IN COUNTRY for 90 straight days, the 90 day report is due on ( can be done 5 days before ) the date on the 90 paper. ALSO Depending on the LOCAL OFFICE POLICY, if you leave Th, you might have to do a new TM-30 even if returning to same address

FAA’s Diversity Policies Under Fire After Deadly Air Collision
edwardflory replied to Social Media's topic in World News
""""Just please note that no airplane collisions and crashes like this happened while Biden was president."''' So it's the fault of someones policies that's been in office LESS than ...30... days, and not the fault of a person's policies who was in office OVER ...1400...days? YEA RIGHT!!! -
Uzbek man nabbed at Phuket Airport for overstaying visa
edwardflory replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
"""What are they hoping to achieve arresting him over 6 days....""". ( HINT - FINE MONEY ) The questions NOT answered, 1) Was he getting on a INTERNATIONAL or DOMESTIC flight? WAS / IS it: 'Swooped and arrested' if domestic flight - details to follow. OR 'Swooped', fined and passport stamped overstay, booted out, if a international flight. 2) Overall "something" seems missing. -
4th back to back entry?
edwardflory replied to steve0101's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
BEING negative, it looks to me, IF I was a Immigration Officer, you are border bouncing to stay 8 to 12+ months without the / a proper extension of stay. Ya take your chances especially IF you do not have a (..?..) ticket out of Thailand. -
Phuket schoolgirls honoured for heroic life-saving rescue
edwardflory replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
In USA I took a paramedic course at a trade school. It was 4 hours daily ( 5 day week ) for 42 weeks. ( My company paid the cost ) Some of the training: 2 week AED, 3 weeks on heart sounds , 3 weeks on lung sounds - BOTH heart and lungs work was a disaster with teen girls in the class, 2 weeks on laceration cleaning and treatment. 4 weeks CPR <== shows the importance of CPR Written test every Friday, 92 correct out of 100 questions required to continue in the class - teachers rules. I was recalled to work, Safety Lead, ( due to refinery explosion ) at week 12 so I didn't get to continue. My teacher held Secret Service clearance so I had a good experienced teacher, not just book knowledge teacher.
