  1. US DEBIT CARD.. :always deposit straight to my Thai bank account at the TELLER...NOT SERVICE DESK. walk out the door, use ATM for cash
  2. A TM-30 is a ADVISE OF (NEW) ADDRESS, should be done within 24 IO working hours if you change addresses. My last TM-30 ( at Korat 4 months ago) took all of 11 minutes, I had my rental agreement - payment receipt, utility receipt - WiFi install receipt, PP with correct Extension of Stay, signed TM-30 as POSSESSOR. Your LOCAL IO might have different requirements. Remember you are STILL REQUIRED to file a 90 day report of address EVERY 90 days.
  3. When you personally do a TM-30, sign as POSSESSOR, take all UTILITY deposit receipts and RENTAL AGREEMENT that is IN YOUR NAME - has worked for me 3 times in 9.years. Should be done within 24 hours of moving. NOTE: What works in one office might not work in another office, depends on office policy and the IO you deal with. ( Some offices use a TM-28 in place (???) of a TM-30. TM-28 was discarded 2 years ago ) Did one in Korat 3 months ago, done in 6 minutes with no problems with documents noted in my post. I am on retirement extension.
  4. I carried a side arm 28+ years, 4 years as a cop, the rest of the time as a private citizen. The firearm NEVER shot me no matter where I wore it. It came out of my holster ( to use ) 2 times. 1) in the middle of the summer 3 people wearing long over coats came into a store and left when they saw my unholstered firearm - about 10 minutes later a police blockade stopped the car, arrested all - were convicted felons. 2) was in a jewelry store when a robber came in, made the mistake of pointing his gun at a customer ( was the chief of police in plain clothes - I knew him ) not the sales staff. I pointed my firearm from cover at the robber and asked the chief where he wanted me to shoot the robber. Crook surendered. Guns don't shoot people, PEOPLE SHOOT PEOPLE
  5. If American, AND depending on state law, you could petition the state governor to pardon / seal your record - depending on that states law. Depending on the state, 10(+) years clean record is usually required. It is a common practice. Get advise from a lawyer in the state of conviction.
  6. Just a quick praise of Korat IO. Did a TM-30 in under 15 minutes 4 weeks ago ( outside building ) Oh, 90 day done and out the door in less than 5 minutes, no form needed - no waiting line. 90 day wait time has basically been this way for 3 years. It's a matter of having ALL your paperwork in order and presented. TM-30 before that at Korat 20 minutes. ( Inside main office ) As to RETIREMENT vs MARRIAGE extensions, about 6 years ago a IO lived in the same building as I, he told me to ALWAYS do Retirement, never do Marriage, have ALL PAPERWORK UP TO DATE. If you divorce ( or other problems (?) - his words ), your Marriage extension can go south VERY QUICKLY!
  7. Magic Jack, under $50 a year, LOOK FOR WHEN ON SALE @$39. Unlimited inbound and outbound ( no video ) via your WiFi, then ALSO put the MJ apk on your mobile - uses your data unless you connect mobile to your / any WiFi. and you have a US "" land line "" number ringing on your Thai mobile phone. Call any US LAND LINE. Also works for a fax machine when connected to MJ device.
  8. You can NOT do any work in Thailand, including Thailand territory waters on a Retirement Extension. ( If married, that might be the way to go with visa ) Read the regulations. You would have to get the proper visa AND work permit to be employed in any form. ( Will company pay the expenses ? ) Then after completion of employment, reapply for NEW Retirement .
  9. TM-28 has not been used for over a year. TM-30 IS ""new"" change of residence - a TM-30 has been required as long as I have been here. File as POSSESSOR, take PP, Rental / Lease agreement, deposit receipts for electric, WiFi and etc. Also copy of landlords ID and mobile number. ( sometime the IO calls the landord to verify - 1 time for me ) I have filed as POSSESSOR 3 times with no problems, last time 1 month ago, took 10 minutes ( even if landlord files - actually the landlord is """responsible""" to file -, there should be no problems --- in theory ) The regulations require that YOU are responsible for ALL paperwork.
  10. My SIM is 8 years old, my mobile 1 year running Android 10. According to 3 different apk SPEED results ( I don't trust just 1 apk ), as well as indicator on mobile, I am running at 5G speed. I live about 10km outside Korat and mobile shows 5G rght now, sometimes drops to 4G depending where my location is and nearest cell tower. I use AIS.
  11. Get a COLOR wallet size copy of your PP and carry it with you at ALL times. This will sufice for a ...temporary... ID under Thai regulations.. If stopped, Your wallet size will be held while you are given time ( usually 6 - 8 hours ) to get your PP and take to unit that has your copy. My copy also has my Thai partner ID on reverse side which came in handy for a emergency visit to hospital. The hospital accepted temporary while I went home to get her issued ID card. Do not ONLY have photo on mobile. A hard copy is also a smart thing to have in wallet.
  12. I have been here 9+ years. I have a plastic folder with every immigration issued documents, all rental receipts and rental agreements, WiFi receipts, utility receipts, bank books and proof of outside money transfers, airline ticket to Thailand, 90 day copies, TM-30 copies and Certificate of Residence copies and etc, that I take EVERY time I go to immigration for any reason. Anything possibly asked for in the folder. WHY..... A friend of mine, --- doing a 90 day report --- was asked for his original rental agreement even tho he was at same address 10 years, he had to provide before 90 day processed. Takes me 10 minutes to add copies to folder. Also do 90 day 5 days early and extension of stay 30 days in advance in case of a problem - gives me time to solve the problem. None so far BE PREPARED for any request.
  13. I do not understand why people wait until the last day to go to Immigration to do their extension paperwork. .I go 30 days BEFORE expire date to "renew" retirement extension. What happens if there is a problem that needs to be solved - last day you have NO time to solve the problem. You loose NO time on a extension renew, on a 90 day report, your 90 days start as soon as you make the report - I also do 5 days early ""in case"". Had a friend do a last day 90 day report late in the afternoon, the IO wanted to see his rental agreement ( same address 10 years ) before the 90 day would be processed . Be safe, do all reports, extensions and paper work as soon as possible instead of waiting until the last minute. NOTE: I ALWAYS file a TM-30 anytime I move as POSSESSOR. YOU are responsible for ANY and ALL paperwork being up-to-date. (The above NOTE was advise from a IO at a place where I lived at one time)
  14. When you enter Thailand, 90 day countdown report starts. A TM-30 OR a extension of stay does NOT change your report date. Simply said, unless you LEAVE Thailand, you MUST do the 90 day report EVERY 90.days. ( most IO's you can do up to 5 days early in person, OR, after 1st 90 day report, you can do online )
  15. Mine still stapled in PP after 8 years, I added a paper clip to hold it in place better, Its seen better days
  16. I did 6 years ago. Hotel filed a TM-30 when I moved in. Stayed there 2 years. ( Pattaya )
  17. Why do you wait to have PP RENEWED?. Many countries are taking 6+ weeks to issue new PP's due to Covid. Renew your PP now while you have 6 months left on it. What happens if you get sick, or in a traffic accident and your PP EXPIRES? I have had 6 PP's and renew 1) when 6 months left, 2) when I have 4 clean page regardless of expire date. ( 2 times ) Stop a problem before you create a problem.
  18. A little horror story: Several years ago, a friend of mine, who had been living at the same address 10 years, was required to go get his "original" rental agreement and prove rental payments for the last year before a 90 day report would be accepted.
  19. Be SAFE, make sure, EVERY time you CHANGE address a TM-30 IS filed. YOU are responsible that ALL paperwork is up to date. If you are on a EXTENSION OF STAY, some offices basically ignore a TM-30 filed by hotels for a short ( weeknd and etc ) stay as long as your 90 day report address is up to date and reflects where you actually live. YOU can file a TM-30 as POSSESSOR as I have done several times. Again check with YOUR LOCAL IO for their requirements.
  20. I don't know why people think that beer prices are outrageous in bars. I am looking into setting up a SMALL coffee shop for my girlfriend, already having the equipment needed for my personal use. In a area with LOW TRAFFIC, the rent starts at 9,000 bt a month for a SMALL shop. Add electric, water, PRODUCT cost, HELP (?) cost, tables and chairs, the minimum she ( with no staff ) could sell coffee to almost BREAK EVEN with just medium traffic would be 40bt a cup for regular black coffee. ( I drink a variety of premium coffee ). Having owned businesses in the past - NOT food or beverage, one would be surprised at costs involved keeping doors open. When I was a youngster, I trained at a local restaurant chain - 5 restaurants, same city ( assistant mgr ) and I base the projected costs quoted in my reply on this training.
  21. Have a Android tablet (7 inch ) 12 years old, still working...but..no updates. Also have several Android tablets now, one "game" tablet 4 / 256, one for the better half 4 / 256, one with 8 / 512 ( mine that I use every day ) with a 512 SD card and 12 inch screen, Bluetooth KB and case ( this one cost UNDER 1600bt, ). Less than 5000bt for all 3, a hell of a lot less expensive than Apple. I go back to the Apple - Franklin war days
  22. Buy a top of the line TV. Add a ANDROID TV Box. 2 +/- years from now UPDATE to NEW ANDROID BOX for 1000 to 1400bt, change the box, NOT the TV and you are updated
  23. I deal with a small Texas bank also. I advised them I will be traveling Asia, only question asked, " how long", I said a few years. My travel advisory is good to 2030. I use my debit card to transfer monies ( normally $1000 ) to Thai Bank account. My US BANK DEBIT POSTING is around $1.50 to $2.00 over the XE (apk) Currency rate for $1000. ( I have a Senior account at my US bank, only charged for NSF checks - check YOUR US BANK ) Swipe card at TELLER counter, have deposited straight into Th account - do NOT touch the money.----***Do NOT use customer service***---. I can withdraw what money I want at banks ATM as I leave bank.
