Asking because I don't know (not to be a smartass)...  Did London-BKK used to fly over Russkie airspace, or did they veer south?

I have been going back and fore for 25 years and in that time the majority of flights have been through the middle east and across India. Some direct flights have gone to the north of India and in the days of USSR would  have been in Soviet airspace.

Not sure about the northern scandanavian countries, and of course there is always Aeroflot.

A few months back, for other reasons (not the Win 10-11 issue), I bought my first ever Chromebook laptop... I wanted something lighter to carry when traveling vs my heavier and larger Win 10 laptop at home... Have taken the Chromebook on a few recent domestic trips here in Thailand, and it's served the purpose as a traveling stopgap... But I could never see it as a replacement for my full-time home computing needs.

Agree with the sentiment. I bought a Lenovo Chromebook a few years back for travelling but didn't like the operating system. Replaced it about a year later for the same model with Win10.

Much easier for travelling but not a lot of use at home other than watching TV on the verandah.

Never heard of this, when did it change? (seems unlikely as how could you have a valid permission to stay with an invalid passport?)

Generally speaking passports become expired, not invalid, people often travel with both old and new when needing to use stamp/visa in the old.

Expired passports are still a valid form of ID, in the UK you can fly domestic on an expired passport for up to 5 years after expiry.

I think you're confused. Before the 30-day extension for visa exempt entries was introduced, all you could get was an extra 7 days "denied extension but grace period given to leave the country".

I am certainly not confused, I have had extension to a visa exempt entry long before 2014, possibly 2006.

For your information in 25 years I have never had to leave the country.

There is an old saying, "if you don't ask you don't get".

No matter what your salary,or even if you're on unemployment benefit in UK everyone pays the same . Wine here is double the UK price

Your last statement is very generalised, if anything I would suggest domestic UK wine is very much the same price as Thai domestic wine.

What you really mean is imported wine is heavily taxed to protect the domestic market. Fuel is heavily taxed in the UK but not for the same reason.

We can live in hope that one day the Thai wine producers will become more efficient and prices fall, not holding my breath.

Seems any war or potential war is a good excuse for companies to charge more , even if it has no impact on goods etc  😒

The conflicts are headline news and easy for some to make assumptions, they may or may not have some impact.

The real reason for an upward trend in shipping costs comes from rerouting vessels.

Stamps are not what matters, the number of remaining pages are all that matters.

I came back into Thailand with just a fraction of a page left,  Malaysia had gone and put a sticker right in the middle of the last page. Didn't bother the Thai IO just put the entry stamp in the last little bit.

Bit of a problem though at immigration, not enough room for an under consideration stamp without impinging on another stamp. The boss however decided a little impingement was ok.

Goodness gracious what bank forces you to get face scans?

I put my card in the ATM enter my pin press ENGLISH and then Withdrawal.

    Boom.

No face scan required.  Rubbish. 🤣

Indeed. Not all banks are forcing facial recognition. I can access phone and my bank's app with pin numbers without a problem, my daily limit is 200K.

There is cameras on ATMs but not necessarily related to accounts, possible some have that option, wouldn't know. I never use my own banks ATMs, only a variety of others.

..... this is why there is often so much conflict (on this forum) between what can be done and those stating what can't because they read it on a web-page that contains errors.

May well be a reduction when Google moves to biometrics, starting shortly on payments.

    Extract rom an email.

Sure sign you don't think much, then.

Causes are usually lack of maintenance e.g. broken pipes or equipment failure: High-pressure pipes and equipment are used in ice factories to circulate the refrigerant. If these pipes or equipment break, it can cause a sudden release of pressure, which can lead to an explosion.

Chemicals such as ammonia and chlorine are used in these factories. If these chemicals are not stored properly, they can explode if they come into contact with each other or with other incompatible materials.

These explosions can cause serious injuries or death to workers in the ice factory, as well as damage to the surrounding property. as seen, they can also release hazardous chemicals into the environment.

Indeed, the huge explosion in Beirut a couple of years ago was chemical storage.

Still is.  All entries to Thailand, regardless of the visa/VE/extension are at the discretion of the IO.

For those that may not have understood what I meant, this occurred following the clampdown of Aug 2014. People should remember things can always go back to the way they were.

Previously, visitors from countries which are exempt from obtaining a tourist visa when entering Thailand, including Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States of America, could stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days per visit. Now, the new regulations permit visitors from these countries, as well as those entering Thailand with tourist visas, to apply once for an additional 30 day extension of stay without having to leave the country. It should be noted, however, that the period of extension in total cannot exceed 30 days from the expiration date and is subject to the discretion of the authorities.

Yeah. Which is not the point here.

I was talking about coming in the country on an exemption and being stop at the immigration desk for it.

    Anyways...

    Not important.

And as I pointed out, when you reached the immigration desk it never crossed your mind you were abusing the Bilateral Agreement, which was never intended as an alternative to a visa.

My comment was in respect of the change from a discretionary time to a standard 30 days in regard to extending a visa exempt entry which if I remember right came about following an immigration clampdown in 2014.

However in pursuit of some hidden agenda you felt compelled to change the context of my post.

Nothing is 100% risk free, but if stats of EV vs ICEV fires is any thing to go by, I'm sticking with EVs.

13 to 1, more times likely to have a fire when petrol is involved, as that stat was posted earlier elsewhere.  If and when I start reading about EV fires in TH, (marine or road) then I may become concerned ... or not.

I will certainly stick with the EV ferries, more to do with comfort rather that an anything to do with risk, both being very low. Service craft are a different ball game to private vessels.

I don't think marine craft use petrol, more likely diesel, less inflamable but still a fire risk, but then so are lithium ion batteries.

Fears over the dangers of EV batteries used on both cars and motorcycles which can produce uncontrollable heat surges, radiation and chemical discharges. Wednesday night’s fire is seen as a wake-up call for authorities.

Elitist? More like realist. Most of the best docs and hospitals are in Bangkok. Not all! But most.

A "realist" would pay attention and be aware that someone asked where I had been treated, not for an irrelevant opinion.

One of the biggest failings with this forum is some people feel compelled to post against a piece of selected text rather than staying in context.

I got stopped and nearly kicked out the country at BBK airport for not having a tourist visa a few weeks ago. I've been traveling on exemptions for a couple of years now. Two months in Thailand, Two months elsewhere. Anyways, I don't know why immigration has become so idiotic but it is what it is.

Obviously not aware that the Bilateral Agreement is for 30 days.

Years ago any extension to a visa exempt entry was at the discretion of the IO, one time I was given 5 days.

Now people seem to think that a 30 day extension is a god given right.

Before the US got a whiff of the oil, the middle east was controlled by UK forces and those of us that done time there are well aware of the need for salt tablets, and the dreaded liquid chalk.

Any condition arising from a lack of salt could be seen as self inflicted injury, no excuse, there were bowls of salt tablets on all the dining tables. I followed the guidance and never had a problem but knew many that thought they knew better and suffered as a result.
