    No.

    A good translation company will:

    1. Get the documents they need from you (copy of your passport, copy of your partner's ID card, the affirmation, etc.

    2. Translate the affirmation document

    3. Make an appointment for the legalisation at the MFA (or get an express appointment if time is short, at a cost)

    4. Take the translation to the MFA and get the document legalised

    5. Either contact you so that you can call into their office to collect everything, or post the documents back to you via EMS

This is the easiest, because all you have to do is attend the translation office at the beginning, supply the documents and pay. Up to you if you attend again in person to collect the documents.

Remember to take your passport and your partner's ID card with you when you attend the office. It will save all kinds of problems.

Personally, I use Express Translation which are located at BTS Chit Lom.

  2. Hi, I'm going through the requirements for the affirmation. It says I need to provide names and addresses of two people, who don't live in Thailand. I've been in Thailand a long time and have lost touch with everyone. Is the embassy going to contact these people?

Also, what's the easiest way for getting the translation done and sent to the MFO. I've heard, if you use the service recommended by the embassy, they will deliver it to the MFO for you.

if you didn't tell them you were living outside the UK, you wouldn't need to deal with Life Certificates.

Not sure why they can't do it all via email though.

If you don’t tell them you are living outside the UK, you will be fraudulently receiving pension increases. This is 2023. The Government can join up all the dots now. When they catch you, your pension will be set at the rate it was when you left the UK. You will be required to repay all the increases and other benefits received.

  4. I have a old 4x4 SUV converted to a camper van.

I know people with full blown camper van conversions, mostly built on the back of pickups. There are lots of Thailand camper conversions on YouTube. Aircon is the killer... finding places with an electric hookup suitable is not easy.

Thailand has some wonderful national parks that offer camping. There are plenty of good campsites too... some where you can literally park up on the beach. Most have toilets and showers. We've never been refused because we have a van, not a tent.

The SUV suits us. Most of our time (including cooking and eating etc) is outside under the awning, so we only need somewhere to sleep. The van has a decent solar setup, sufficient to run a fridge and large fan overnight.

A camper conversion based on a minivan would be more comfortable. Although it would have been more expensive, initially, I did plan to go down that route. However, Thailand has so many cheap hotel and guest houses, it just wasn't worth it.

Why not change your account to Nationwide Internet banking? I did it with the Cooperative bank and now use 'Smile Bank' I have no UK address.

I do use Nationwide Internet Banking, and have done for years without issue... but the account is registered at a UK address I no longer own. Now out of the blue, they're asking me to confirm my UK address.

I suggest you transfer the 800k baht as soon as possible.

I am sure there will still be the availability for short extensions in late May you could get. Under the current memorandum there is even an allowance to request the requirements for a extension to be waived. Or in the worst case doing the the extension late and paying a overstay fine.

Thanks for your help. I can do a bank transfer this week.

Is the seasoning time 8 weeks or 2 months? If it's 8 weeks I'll only be a day or two adrift. When should I go to immigration to apply?

What is your multiple entry non-o visa based upon.

How many days after your current 90 day entry ends would you be able to have 800k baht in the bank for 2 months?

    Thanks.

Non-0 based on UK state pension. Both the visa and my current 90 days ends last week in May. Original plan was to do a border run mid may but that's looking very unlikely. I can get the money in a Thai bank next week but that will only be about 6 weeks seasoning, not the 2 months required.

Info for getting a affirmation of marital status at the UK embassy is here. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/notarial-and-documentary-services-guide-for-thailand#affirmation-of-marital-status  The problem will be getting an appointment to get it.

If you can get a letter from the UK embassy you may be able to get a 30 day extension at immigration.

Thanks. Non 0 based on being in receipt of a UK state pension.

    1. You do not convert anything.

You apply for a 12 month extension based on having a Thai Wife.

400,000 Baht in a Thai bank for 2 months or proof of 40,000 monthly income.

    2. No but you can extend by 60 days if you have a Thai Wife.

    3. Getting married in Thailand is easy. Affirmation to Marry document from Embassy is needed.

You can get an agent to sort out the Embassy document and get it translated and verified by MFA. Then get you registered at the amphur.

Used to be around 10,000 Baht for their services.

    Thanks

  10. Like many others, I'm on a Non 0 ME and concerned about border hops. We were planning to get married this year but want to bring it forward and go for a married extension.

    1: Can I convert a Non 0 ME to a marriage extension?

2: Can I extend a Non 0 ME at immigration for 30 days?

3: Getting married in Thailand looks quite complex. I gather I need paperwork from the British Embassy but in the present crisis, I guess this may be difficult and time consuming. I've seen posts on here advising an agent to sort out the marriage paperwork. Can anyone provide info how this works and the cost involved?
