I need 2 more TV's before I qualify for a retirement visa. I have 3 TV's in my passport since 2016 - Savanaket, Penang & Vientiane, all extended plus 2 VE entries.
First option: Go back to Penang but what are the risks of a red stamp there now? If I got a red stamp, would I have trouble getting a TV from Vientiane.
Second option: Only 2 TV's from Laos, I guess I would have no problem at Vientiane, then go to Penang. What are the risks of a red stamp from Vientiane? I assume this would also increase the risk of a red stamp from Penang.
Finally. apart from renewing passport, what are the TV options with red stamp?

You can get a visa exempt entry there.
I have seen no reports of that check point asking for the 20k baht.
Thankyou

I want to take the ferry from Langkawi to Satun. Can I get a 30 day visa exemption on arrival at Satun? Are there any issues there like wanting to see 20k etc?

For an extension based on marriage to a Thai, the requirements are 400k in the bank or a monthly income of 40k. Am I correct in thinking it can be a combination of both? If so, how does one calculate the amount required in the bank when the monthly income is less than 40k?

Thanks for the replies. So just to clarify - the only requirements are to be over 65 and drawing a UK state pension?.
Is there some limit to the number of times they will issue this visa? I intend to return to the UK annually for a holiday. Can I apply for new visa on each visit to the UK rather than do the extension to stay in Thailand with 800k baht in the bank etc.

Hi, what are the actual requirements for a visa based on UK state pension and how do you apply?

Has anybody got a tourist visa from Kota Bharu recently? Are they looking for onward flights etc? How about the border crossing at Sungai Kolok - any requirement to show money?
-
Seen reports of people being asked to show 20k at Pedang Besar. Is this at the train station or the land crossing up the hill (or both)?

Hi. I want to go to Khota Bharu for a TV - are they asking proof of funds and a ticket for onward travel? Is Sungai Kolok safe to stay overnight? Any other useful info or tips welcome. I don't want to go to Penang.

Insurance for loss and damage etc - mobile phones and cameras etc. Is this possible in Thailand?

Hi, just received a handout from a language school. Standard 36k for 1 year but need 300k in Thai bank to apply - is this for real?

I frequently travel to Betong. Has anyone crossed the border at Betong and travelled to Penang? Is it possible and what are the transport options please?

Hi, with a long term plan to retire to Thailand, I want to learn Thai. I'm not interested in scamming the visa system, I genuinely want to learn how to speak and read Thai. Useful info and personal experiences appreciated. My idea is to study for a year or so, then apply for a retirement visa.

Probably best is to fly on Air Asia via Kuala Lumpur. It is also possible to take the train to the Thailand Malaysia border at Sungai Kolok, about an hour from Kota Baru. The train is a looong trip.
Is there a bus or van from Hat Yai?

What's the best travel options for Kota Bharu please?

Thanks for all the replies :-)

Hi, I want to go to Savannakhet from Bangkok. I understand there is a bus. I'm sure someone has written a full guide but the forum search found nothing. Thanks.

Hi. Just renewed my UK passport. The old one has my TV so I was given a letter by the embassy, what should I do with that? Also i want to extend my TV at local immigration but it is in my old passport, what happens now?

Yup, we appear to have similar problems. I have a Golden number, so like you, I don't want to lose my number which is why I've stuck with it. Also, that is the number for my WhatsApp and Viber etc. I've manually selected the network now and it doesn't lose the signal, is showing an active network in the settings and I receive texts ok. It's the 3/True combination without a doubt, before when it was 3/Dtac it worked fine.
On a side note, my 3 Sim didn't work at all in Malaysia recently.
In my years of traveling around SE Asia, o2 always worked best so I guess the same would be true for GIf-Gaf. I have in the past read positive comments on here about Gif-Gaf

Nope, 3 SIM still doesn't work in Thailand, works in Laos.
I'll let you know if it works in the Philippines next month ...... I'm betting it does.
I should have brought an O2 SIM out with me.
The last time I was in the Philippines was 2 years ago. 3UK works but drove me insane because it constantly lost the network. Yes, you should have brought your o2 SIM because I gave up trying to use 3 in Manila and switched to o2 which worked perfectly.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm no telecoms expert but before 3's roaming partner in Thailand was DTac, now they've recently switched to True. I've tried to get some clarification of whether 3 can provide service here in Thailand but they always fob it off as True's problem.
Torrow - Just seen your post. I've been having similar problems for the past 4 months, even had a new sim sent to me recently, via a family member. I ported my number to 3UK, thinking it would be a better option that EE, which I was having a few problems with, mostly customer services. However, my problems with 3UK started from day 1, last March. When I first applied for a 3UK sim, their website stated that roaming partners were Dtac and True, but when sim card received, only True was available. I'm fed up with customer services; waiting 5 days for a reply only to be told how to search for networks on my phone, and that roaming is already switched on. I've been in touch several times since. My current sim card which I received yesterday, is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
Have you got any update on the problems from 3UK since you last posted? I'd be interested to hear if you have. I've just sent a message to 3UK, suggesting that the problem lies with True, or their agreement with True. I'm not holding my breath for a favourable reply. I'll post any information here if I get some.
Cheers

Ok... 3UK's customer service is useless. I raised a complaint and then demanded to deal with a team leader who had access to everything to avoid having to wait for 'the service dept' to reply.
For some reason, much depends on your phone. My SIM point blank refused to work in a new Asus but worked ok in an old iPhone 4. It's working now in a Nokia Windows phone but only 50% of the time because it constantly loses the network, requiring a phone restart every time. I've found the best solution is to search networks and manually select TH-3G. That works fine until you have to travel. I had exactly the same problem in the Philippines - constantly losing the network and that was with a Galaxy Note 3 supplied by 3UK whereas o2 worked fine.
I'm totally convinced the problem is the switch to True. I had two years using 3UK via DTac without issue.
Now waiting for a Gif-Gaf SIM to arrive which I'm hoping will solve everything.

Hi, I only have 2 pages left in my passport so my idea is to get another tourist visa from Penang but this will be my third from there in a row.
Firstly, is Penang OK for 3 back to back tourist visas? Secondly, does a new passport reset my visa count back to zero?
Thanks

I've been reading through the True FAQ but it's not clear.
All I'm interested in is making and receiving calls to/from Thailand whilst out of the country. Can anyone confirm whether this will be charged within your monthly package allowance or do roaming rates apply?
