  1. a friend got the click kind and said her hair broke. So it can be risky if your hair is already thin. Glue is DEFINETLY a NO GO like SBK stated. By the way, all that glitters is not gold, quite a few thai women have extensions.. just go to the places where hair is done e.g. beside the mall bangkapi and you will be surprised.

  2. So how much do you consider to be10 thousands of baht?

The cheapest way to go is hire thai movers to box your belongings and provide you with an inventory.

Hire an independent shipper (and I can recommend one that we used) to obtain the container for you (assuming we are talking container worth of goods).

the container will be delivered to your residence (assuming there is space for it to be parked) and then you have the movers load your boxes of goods and pack them on the container.

Pay the shipping company for additional insurance.. you have the invenotry which was not prepared by you so customs will not scrutinize your belongings and bam you are on your way.

now when you arrive in the UK you can hire someone to clear customs for you and have the goods delivered to your new home (or you can ask the shipper person if they have connections in the UK).

    I speak from experience.

  3. Well ....

    1. If the clothes are left in the washing machine for a long time (like very long time) before taken out to dry then they will get that musty smell, as they begin to dry in a hot closed environment (the washing machine).

    2. Once your clothes have the moldy musty smell, then you have to wash them in hot water and rinse very well.

    3. A dryer will solve your problems

as for the stains.. was your old maid hand washing some clothes that needed the hand wash and the current one just tossing everything in the washing machine?

  4. The PErfect Place is so far from being up-scale let alone Hi So...

THere is a very tight neigbourhood where Srinakarin meets the new express way going towards Samut Prakan. Never saw a foreign face there. When you visit a person, they need to give you a card, to give to the guards to show whoose house you visited (and the owners stamp the card).

Then the big expat place on Bagna Highway. They will not let you in until after they have called the owner of the house you are visiting, and they have vouched you in. That is where you see the huge waste of space houses, with the real snooty expats.

  5. I want more proof he killed himself. Things were still going strong for him acting wise and though he was getting old he was in good health. And why would he kill himself in Bangkok? Something is fishy.

I'm with you.. doesnt one have to be a midget to hang themselves in a CLOSET! It is not like the bar is ceiling height. ANd then the hangers bump on the back wall sometimes, so then how uncomfortable would it be to hang yourself in a CLOSET! Who has ever heard of someone doing that.

Then why would you do it half naked?? and ohh was the closet door closed when the maid found him??

Besides, you fly down to bangkok where money buys everything.. you are a big star, albeit old, but famous none-the-less people are fawning over you, you are here for a movie... and you get depressed and hang yourself in a closet..

    No.. way.. jose..

  6. depending on the length of time she has worked.. if more than 3 months, I think then by law you must give a month minimum.

For no drama give her two weeks, if she fusses make it a month, so that she feels she was in control, even though you were planning on giving her a month anyway.

  7. My two cents..

You are in a realationship and you are happy and you are secure and everyone knows it (ie at work)

She is in a relationship you know it, which makes it so easy for her to talk to you and just be herself because.. *drum roll* you are that guy who is in a ralationship and EVERYONE knows does not fool around on his gf.

Short and simple.. she is comfortable around you because you are like a gay guy to her.

You were comfortable around her because you were secure in yourself and not acting like a man desperate for a woman in his life.

If she is all that you say she is, the moment you start to hit on her, she will rethink just how amazing a person you are, and you will be another western man, who is incapable of looking at an educated Thai woman as anything other than that. An educated woman, capable of holding conversation and being FRIENDS with.

    My cents on the matter.

  8. DOH! And TEFL Teachers get from 30000 baht per month ? It certainly does not add up. At this level of money talks, that 30000tb should be per school child.

I have heard that some teachers are on well over 100,000 Baht per month, I wouldn't know if this is actually the case, some Teacher told me in a bar one night. :o

The 100,000 baht/month is actually true.. but for an international school, and a teacher with actual teaching experience in the West. But not all teachers in the same school will make this, and jealousy and spite runs deep when others find out how much more you make.

However the salary is based on ones negotiation skills prior to accepting the position.

In addition, some govts send teachers to teach in their govt subsidized schools. In such cases I would assume they are not taking a pay cut from their home pay.

  9. I am considering a job in Bankok with a US company that has a Branch Office in Bankok. The position is Project Manager. This would involve hiring Thai companies to do various jobs at local US plants and factories, such as janitorial services, pest control, lawn service, etc. What should I expect to receive? Does anyone know any US citizens working as Project Managers in Thailand and approximately what they are earning, in US dollars? They are offering a salary that is lower than what I would earn in the same position here in the US, but I know that the cost of living is lower in Thailand.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have been unable to find salary information of this nature anywhere.

Are you SURE they are hiring you to deal with pest control, and lawn service, and stuff that you would have to be 100% proficient in Thai to organize? Because with a translator, there will be a 10 minutes of conversation and you will get a 1-liner for the translation. There is no reason to bring you across the world to organize that kind of work.

That should be red-flag number one.

Did you ask what happened to the person who was doing this job prior to you? Was the person an expat? Did they leave? and why? Perfectly acceptable AMERICAN (for those who might slam me) questions for employers.

  10. Dao: Leather and wood in shoes have been okay for me. Just the rubber type stuff..

And to add to what Thanh said about cables.. my Nokia cell phone charger cables (actually all black coiled up cables) also fell apart, exposing the wires.

If you are only visiting and then taking them back home in a couple of months, I should think you would be okay. Storing them here is the problem.

  11. For the Office:

DVD's, lots of DVD's, blank DVD's.. CD's are not so much of an issue as you can get them for dirt cheap from Best buy when they sell them with rebates.

SKYPE phones.. an heir and a spare. Couldnt find any in Best Buy. Nothing too grand, just the regular USB plug and play 300 Bhat ones.

    Kingston USB sticks

Key boards, web cams, security cams if you need them...

    For the Kitchen:

If you like thai food, then your rice cooker, sticky rice steamer, and bamboo steamer thingy.

All the packet spices you can find in Tessco or Carefour.. as in the Koi Soi, Paneng Curry... etc..

A bag of sticky rice.. Jasmine rice can be found in large Asian grocery stores along with the Nam pla and other cooking spices..

    Bedroom:

    Clothing, clothing and more clothing..

Get everything you ever needed altered but were too lazy to go to the tailor done before leaving..

    Get your suits made.

    Nice Jewelry, pearls etc..

If you are into massages and all that essence stuff.. then get your massage oils, and your water burner essential oils.. etc..

Hit all the made in thailand, thailand best buys, and other what nots that might be held in impact before you leave.

I cant see Tv'S being less expensive in Thailand than in the US. Besides the fact that your warranty will no longer apply I would suggest doing a price check on the internet before buying anything electronic which will require a transformer.

If you ARE bringing anything electronic, make sure you bring a couple of transformers.

Furniture: Those nice teak outdoor pool type lounge chairs.. You can bring in your furniture if you say you have had it for at least 6 months prior to moving.

Alcohol: Some freaky Thai herbal whiskey with all the animals stuck in them.

  12. Shoes, shoes and more shoes.. but they must be sewn. Anything glued will come apart.. anything with funny rubber, will "dissolve".

    From the kitchen:

You baking ware: cookies sheets, bundt pans.. pie pans.. etc

    Cooking spices... bring all!

If you make cookies, chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips,

Hand mixer, blender, bread maker.. everything electronic is way over priced in thailand.

    From the bedroom:

    Decent bed sheets

Lotions without whitening creams, sun screen, all your make-up.. tampoons are super expensive in Thailand.

    From the medicine cabinet:

If you are picky about your pills, then your favourite headache pills, sinus medicine, cold medicines...

    Office:

Bring your computer, and extra hard drives. Personal purse sized planner/calendars. oR the larger Franklin Covey type planner with calendar. Post it notes.

  13. Ive seem thai boys watching others thai boy over cam masturbating. It was disguting, went on for over two hours.

You watched boys, watching other boys masturbate for over TWO hours? What where you doing while they were watching..

    Sorry.. dont answer

But there is the answer.. skip the websites and go for the cams!

I dont see how porno is illegal in thailand when most people selling DVD's in Yarrowat have a selection of pornos for display also.

  14. Out going girls.. well RCA, Q-bar, Bed supper and most of the british clubs on Sukhumvit. If you know how to Salsa, then check out Dream Hotel (though I forget which night).

For the most part I would think there are a lot of private get togethers than public outings.

There is a woman's net ball league and I THINK they have a mens part also. 90% westerners. Join that and you will meet LOADS of nice expat women and the married ones will no doubt point you in the right direction.

  15. It is a common practice in Thailand I should think and not directed at Farangs.

My Thai gf left the country in April, and her "thai" landlady REFUSED to deposit the deposit into her Thai account. The landlord told her on the phone "you dont need the money".

The sad part is, she found a tenant for the landlord before she moved out.

At the end of the day, it is a toss up.

  16. BUT!.. do you really care? Do you really need validation from men on this forum that you have a valid point?

To a certain extent, a lot of the male posters on TV, dont just hate women, they tend to hate everyone. It is as though they suffer from "only miserable child, never had a playmate, never shared a toy" syndrome.

So.. whats the hurt if they do not acknowledge other view points?

  17. Vertigo.. I am sorry.. the condom comment was not directed at you... although glad to know you use one.. :o

Lets be objective... a US law firm in thailand will cost what?? 8,000 baht (minimum) an hour.. and who is paying for this?? They are not married and he is under no legal obligation to pay for her attorney fees in a matter which requires no attorney.

Germany's youth welfare deparment is not as powerful as you think it is (against non residents). I did a search on the net, and they can not get US service men, who father children in Germany to get paternity tests. The US military bases do not even get involved (from the 2 cases I read).

Sure if he is German and living in Germany he might face prison, but if he is not German, and NOT living in Germany, then it becomes a case of "catch me if you can".

If the mother and child are not residing in Germany, then the govt will not be obligated to help with support and as such, I can't see why you think they would force a paternity test. A paternity test is so that the govt does NOT have to pay for support.

Lets assume that he does admit the child is his (via paternity test) then who is going to garnish his wages or force him to transfer money abroad every month. Do you realise how many dead beat dads are in the US, whose ex-wives/gf's cant get them to pay? When all the parties in question are living in the US?

There are no international laws between Germany and the US that would force this, so why would there be one between Thailand and the US.

  18. Vertigo: And if the test is negative can she then pick another person and ask that person to be tested? Plus I thought in Germany, it is hard to get a man to get DNA tested.

DNA testing in the US can take some time. Not so cut and dry. Not sure you can do much if you are living in a foreign country trying to get DNA testing done on a person in the US. Not sure the authorities would be interested. You have to file in court and wait your turn.

The US embassy does not help people their own citizens when sh*it hits the fan so why would they be interested in helping a paternity case. Lets not kid ourselves on the role of the US embassy in ANY country.

She wants to file against him and be successful, then she needs to file against him in the county he resides in which means getting into the US and filing.

Best advice, is one that was already given. Get him to have some compassion, and agree to help out with her bills and finances. Try and get in touch with his family and ask them to please help persuade him (not them, but him) to help with his child, and their grandchild.

In future.. use a condom, or do not give birth unless married.

    my two cents

  19. I should think that if questioned and you indicate that you were separated and waited for her paperwork to go through before filing for a divorce, umm.. will not look good for you. Lots of red flags. But then again it is a 50/50 toss up and depends on who handles your paper work.

If you want to err on the side of caution and so as not to affect your future / future happiness with the "one, who is yet to come", then file now, and show that you are not part of some green card wedding scam.

If you want to put your soon to be ex-wife's happiness (which she obviously has no regard for yours being that she could not hack a 2 year marriage but wanted more "freedom") ahead of yours then go ahead and wait to file.

    But answer me this.

If you are not married for 2 years, then your spouse is granted a 2 year temporary green card, and not a 5 year. At the end of the two years (or close to it), you have to file and show that you are still married AND living together. Are you saying you are prepared to lie on federal govt forms in your own country?? Or do you not read the fine print which states that is a felony Or maybe a misdemeanour. Regardless why should you risk your standing for someone who has moved on for more "freedom".
