Thanks for the information,
just a few points I'm not too sure on having never ventured into Thai banking fixed account schemes before .
( Its deposit rate is equal to the deposit rate of a 24-month fixed deposit (at the lowest deposit limits for a natural person) + 0.15 percent, p.a. or as the Bank’s announcement.)
So if some on deposited One Million ( 1,000.000 ) Baht in this fixed account , what would be the yearly Baht return ?
The combined interest of all types of fixed accounts must be up to 30,000 Baht per year in accordance with the Revenue Department’s regulations
I'm again not too sure what this means .
Would it be possible to open more than one account in the same name?
Thanks
You are only allowed one account in your name.
When I get my first months interest I will post the amount I get transfrered into my current account.
Cheers
marshbags
As promised but delayed until I got my second months interest paid for comparison and confirmation of the payments.
The first month I received 2,071 baht clear. The second months was 2,140 baht clear. ( on the 25th of each month which compliments my official start date )
I,m not sure if this indicates a slight increase as it matures but will again post in a couple of months should the increases continue.
I am as with the last fixed returns, pleased and well satisfied when compared to the pittance it realised in the current account.
I,ve actually had more than what a year paid already in that, interest wise in the 2 months it has been deposited.
That and decent accidental cover with the Kasikorn until the maturity of the policy if you are below a certain age.
( At present it can only cover you until you reach the age limit of 70 ) but i,ll benefit for just under two years at least.as it stands.

Talk about tempting fate .
My stepson last night told us the factory were he works at in Ban prat has just informed them at an urgent meeting the place is closing down on the 24th of Dec and will not be re opening.
Everyone is to be made redundant.
The factory has been very good to them and has a good reputation for employee conditions and provisions.
He was always working overtime for which a generous additional wage was paid, but this has been abruptly stopped as of now.
The company have kindly arranged for prospective emloyers to visit on the 14th to vet everyone and maybe employ selected and suitable candidates.
It really has come out of the blue and has naturally upset everyone.
I cannot help but wonder if the present political situation / enviroment has in some way added to the reasons as to why they have decided to close down.
Like I said the company have always been very good to the workforce and I do not think bad of them and they must have very good reasons for closing the factory down.
Sadly many have financial obligations ( not living beyond their means type things as most from what I experienced were sensible people )and always assumed they had security and the ability to pay for whatever they committed themselves to based on their regular salaries.

Kudos to Admin / Thai Visa for the auto recovery facility, I just experienced a power cut so thought this post have gone to cyber space.
Thanks again for saving me having to rewrite another post as I think it is important re the economical situation that is being debated at present.

If we ignore that and just focus on the rice scheme, this single policy alone is enough to crash the Thai economy.
No it's not, and the ignorance you show determines the nature of any response.I have argued elsewhere that the rice subsidy scheme is misguided but a passing knowledge of the numbers' impact on the national balance sheet demonstrates your claim is nonsense.Khun Korn, whom I'm sure, has the facts at his fingertips certainly wouldn't make that claim. You say the PTP machine will crash the Thai economy - sheer silliness on your part I'm afraid, and incidentally ignores the broadly cross party consensus on economic management as well as the excellent quality of senior bureaucrats.Taking another point there is a sound case for wages to be increased in Thailand to encourage the transition to higher value added. There is a case to be made for criticising this government's handling of the economy but the changes needed are at the margin. For you and others to make ridiculous statements about a broadly very healthy economy is unacceptable. If you wish to pursue I suggestt you do so elsewhere and not in a serious forum discussion.
Absolutely correct. Beyond that it is just pumping money into the economy from the government into the economy.
It may not be the cleverest policy ever, but it will take a very long time for it alone to push Thailand over it's fiscal cliff.
They will put up vat soon, i am convinced.
The forthcoming minimum wage increases of 300 baht will not bode well for the economy in the broader picture and there will be untold hardship for all the unfortunates who are not wage earners and god help the poorer members of Thai society who are presently just getting by.
The outcome will be yet another blow for this government of self serving officials and their exiled leader who as against the majority of their supporters, in particular the ones in the Isaan regions, can easily absorb all and any inflationary effects it will eventually have on the Thai economy.
You may talk a good talk Thaksin but reality with come back to haunt you and your misguided supporters will really start to wonder what is happening to all they were promised and consequently voted you in for.
Food as if it hasn,t already increased enough for the unfortunate less well off who have no income of substance.if at all any.
It will most certainly go up by leaps and bounds to subsidise the employers who will be paying this pre election promises aka bribe of encouragement to get the bribed for election votes.
More importantly all the unprincipled self serving gov. officials and unscrupulous owners ect. will once again use it as a means / excuse to inflate thier profits yet further to well over and above what they need in the way of the wage increases / commitments.
Unemlpoyment is sure to increase and many will loose their present highly dependant jobs and join the ranks of no hopers in respect of a deserved, decent future.
Many by the way are already making obscene profits via unjustified product increases or the devious reducing of sized packets and weighed contents and volumes ect. ect.
As for the farang with families who are seeing their pensions getting cut back at home and are starting to struggle here, this will also have a real effect on their living standards ect ect. in the future along with their family commitments.
Let us hope they do not decide to put the visa requirements up or at the very least make due considerations for those with family obligations who's food bills ect. ect. will be already having an effect on them.
They cannot / won,t " pack up and go home " either before the usual no brainers start their well rehearsed insults and insensitve comments.

Now, will I get flagged as going off topic?
I am a fan of (UK) mars bars.
Is just me or do local mars bars not seem to taste as good/the same as real (UK) mars bars.
Has anybody come across the truckers favourite Yorkie bar?
I reckon you are safe with this one Loz after all it is chockie related and we loveee to hear of alternatives.
I always found the Mars bars a bit sickly for me, re the contents, but each to his or her own favourites..
Yorkie bars well that,s another story

Whie it is said to taste a little different it is still good and at the very least better for those of us who prefer this brand.
Personally I have tasted several versions of Cadburies modified and produced in hot countries and still found it good so the latest should more than likely be better.
The locally Thai produced version included as I purchased lot,s of it when it was first hit the stores here and enjoyed several promotions were I got complimentary extras.

Thailand, on 2012-11-24 17:16:48, said:
An estimate of 20,000 as opposed to the anticipated 100K plus would seem to be a major vote for the government.
Violence begets violence so better avoided but it appears that there were those out to cause it in the opposition and itchy trigger fingers on the government side.
Hopefully we will see little more from this lot and just let the elected gov get on with it's job whatever it may be.
Those that are not satisfied with whatever will have an opportunity to vote them out in a couple of years time.
...............................
Thanks to the intimidating scare tactics that the government has been putting out plus telling people not to attend, especially in the last week or so prior to many who would have attended have not.
This will not be a true indication of the support they would have got and it in no way gives a vote of support for the Government.
Add to this the police blockades and thier restrictive and intimidatory actions also acconts for many who have been unable to / prevented from attending.
The potential of this becoming a non peaceful event is down to the propogandist government tactics and whipping up fear and expectation of the infamous arrogant attitude of the police who incidently have made it quite clear who,s side they ae on.
They should most definitely be neutral in the way they police and supervise the meeting and be there to control the situation in a peaceful non intimidatory wayand most certainly not panic or give out signals of a not friendly demeanour, while re asruring those attending they are in control and not incite and encourage violence ect ect.
They are supposed to be policing the supporters and making sure everyone is behaving in a responsivble way, first and fourmost they must lead by example.
Unless the government ban further demonstrations you can count on more taking place and definitely growing in strengthin either this format or another.
As peaceful and democratic as the government allow it to be.
AS for the government doing it,s job, until they start representing ALL Thai as they have been given the authority and they swore to do when they took office, they will continue to get more disatisfaction and unrest, not only from their opposition but many of those who have been dishonestly led and are being misrepresented and seeing broken promises broken or abused, time and time again..
They once again did not take office to soley take care of the needs and demands of Thaksin Shinwatara and as for giving out pittances to thier misguided supporters while syphoning off mega baht to enrich their already bursting at the seems bank accounts, eventually the message will become / start getting across / clear as indeed it is already starting to do.
Questions are already being asked about several of their self enriching corrupt laden policies and in particular the rice scheme which rather than making the farmers better off is making them poorer.
In two years time should they continue to stay in power, there will be nothing left in the countries coffers of any significance and democracy as limited as it is in Thailand will have taken on a whole new meaning of dictatorial purportions... Thaksin style
As for seeing a little more of this lot, Thai will most certainly be doing so, along with us farang of course but not of the kind that is benficial to this country and the majority of it,s citizens.
Nothing personal T just a convenient use of your quote to utilise so I can not only offer my reactions to them while providing a bigger more descriptive and bigger picture on my take on them.
May the powers above protect Thailand and it,s citizens from the evil exile who is overseeing this / his government and amazingly openly allowed to do as a criminal fugitive.

As a pertinent type observation,Thaksin is a master for providing timely diversions when something serious is about to take place in relation to questionable governmental policies ect. ect.he has implemented and are about to be debated on by the opposition, within parliament / Senate.
The government face at least 2 and several more major issues which are definitely worthy of such distraction
Number one being of course the censure motion itself.
The rice pledging policy that was supposedly implemented to benefit the poor farmers ect. ect. and in real terms is enriching everyone else within a chosen circle while endebting Thai for many years to come. Aka one of several major corruptive practices.
Then the Chinese MOU has seemingly been falsely quoted as to it,s actual contents and supposed agreements to sell a large amount of the prestocked rice and future harvests ect. ect. are a figment of Yinglucks imagination.. inspired of course by her CEO brother
Not forgetting the Senate debate on the performance of leading cabinet ministers of the goverment and thier questionable interests and representations and on who,s behalf they are acting.
Lastly the no confidence vote is conveniently delayed re the Senate debate which would normally follow.
As a consequence of this instead of having a peaceful demonstration voicing democratic opposition to the government, we now have the potential of it turning into one of chaos and what could be, a violent orchestrated blood bath of which the exiled fugitive has deviously planned for and hopes will take place.
marshbags
Not forgetting the peaceful demonstrators who will have been put off attending in support of thier dis satisfaction relating to an abundance of practices being implemented for the chosen few, mainly under the Shinwatara umbrella.
The reds are most certainly on standby at the very least to mobilise behind the police security forces as and when required, along with a certain Jatuporn rallying them

This is a very dangerous situation indeed and is developing into the makings of a one man dictatorship.
One sided democracy at it,s worst IMHO.
This Government when it was elected in the first instance, promised faithfully and acceptedand supposedly recognised the democratic wishes of all Thai when it was confirmed to office.
What is happening now is in effect similar to a boardroom take over with it,s CEO in exile gradually enforcing his devious plans to control / takeover of the Thai institutions and in doing so realising total control of the country.
This in turn will then allow ( he hopes ) his main objective to return to the country and then personally take total control, assisted by his coherts at present surrogated to oversee his wishes and slowly activate a stranglehold on all opposing authorities.
Carried out in such a way as to appear unalarming but is in effect a devious one side take over of this phoney gov't who supposedly represent democracy for all Thai Citizens.
Sadly if it is allowed to continueThailand will find out to it,s cost that there is no future for those who rightly oppose him /them and a very bleak and bloody clampdown will most certainly ensue.
The powers in charge of security will I fear at the first excuse follow a similar path that took place in the not to distant past.
How better and convenient to create an atmosphere that in their eyes gives them legitimacy to use force and spread fear and chaos among the legitimate demonstrators / opposition. ect. ect.
Especially with a few rogue infiltraters strategically placed among the demonstrators to make sure their is trouble and unrest.
( Thaksins infamous unethical red stormtroopers in the provinces will of course make sure there is no opposition allowed to peacefully demonstrate out side of the capital )
Hopefully the armed forces will be equal to anything untoward that has the potential to take place and will act accordingly to protect the innocents and this beloved country.

The last time I visited the poice station they were displayed on a board and this is what i was referring to.
No problem with your views on safety ect. from your personal experiences.
I of course differ in some areas and no problem either.
At the end of the day safety is the most important issue here.
Over several years I cannot say accidents are isolated because they are not.
Th unreported accidents from minor to more serious ones I have witnessed are mostly down to drunks, drugs and reckless driving and lack of basic road sense / education.
Showing care and being safety conscious hopefully improves the odds of becoming a statistic anonymous or otherwise.
I,ve part copied the following interview from the Pattaya Mail road safety day which provided the following advice on Road Safety
Quote
However, as we all know from accident statistics, the problems to be met are greater than can be countered in one day with the local motorcyclists. The Pattaya Traffic Police understand these problems too and are trying to develop a "pro-active" role in this area.
Pattaya Mail reporters talked with Police Major Pramote Ngarmpradit, a Supervising Inspector with the Pattaya Traffic Police who said that fewer road accidents would occur in Pattaya if both Thais and foreigners would obey the laws.
"We are charged with ensuring road safety for both Thais and foreigners," said Major Pramote. "Road safety does not mean cleaning up the mess and arbitrating in arguments of apportioning blame after the accident. Our job includes enforcing laws which prevent accidents."
"Many people, both Thai and foreign, seem to think that crash helmets are unimportant. This is a serious mistake and we are becoming stricter about levying fines on those motorcyclists not wearing helmets," the Major continued.
"Tourists in Pattaya for short visits seem to know the importance of helmets, as the laws are stringently enforced in their own countries.
But Thais and foreigners who live in Pattaya seem to be the main offenders," he said.
"We have many more traffic signs in both English and Thai now, but there should be more. Pattaya has more than 40 traffic police on duty at any one time but this is still not an efficient number of officers, as Pattaya has a relatively small population, but a large area with many roads. The city also operates on a 24 hour basis," he continued.
When asked about how to avoid accidents, Major Pramote was very definite, "I hope people know the main causes of accidents are not vehicle malfunction, faulty roads, or lack of signs. The main reason for over 90% of accidents is due to careless and reckless driving. Driving while intoxicated is the largest cause of the above. If everyone realized that statistically, improper use of motor vehicles causes more deaths than firearms, maybe they would be more careful when driving."
A salutary lesson for us all.

That's a very dramatic assessment of motorcycle use.
A bicycle in Pattaya would be many times more dangerous than riding a motorcycle. I would never consider it a good form of exercise because of the dangers and pollution. As a way of getting around it's a non-starter.
I'm not lazy, but don't like walking just to get somewhere. I use a motorcycle to go to the gym, for example. It enhances my lifestyle.
Each to his own preferred lifestyle and the following is just mentioning what I have as an occasional alternative to walking.
" I also have a bicyle that I can use for any ventures out once returning to base and always manage to find an alternative safe route to get from A-B were the traffic is at a minimum and especially in Pattaya there are plenty of off road alternatives.. ( legally ) "
Regarding Pattaya,s enviroment, pollution exposure and safety / dangers ect.. this can apply to most countries around the planet, with some really bad in all ways.
I specifically mention I always find the more bicycle friendly routes and as for the other issues several posters highlight, no matter what your preferred way of getting from A-B is, all who stay in Pattaya are just as likely to be one of the unlucky ones involved in an accident, walking, running, bicycle. M.Bike vehicle ect. ect. and we all breath the same air in while out and about.
In my personal experience and I touch wood when typing this, I am always aware of my surroundings and potential hazards and while it doesn,t mean you are completely free of the discussed issues, it certainly helps to be so.
The MBike accident statistics speak volumes for safety on the roads and speak for themselves without being assesed as dramatic.
If anyone doubts this I recommend a visit to the poice station and a see for yourself what are just a portion of the collateral damage the m.bikes have suffered.
If you have more time take a look at the posted statistics re Injuries / deaths and how many accidents in recent times, it really brings it home how dangerous life is on the roads can be.
Like I mention Pattaya is not alone, just be vigilant and if you are walking look left right left right continually if you cross the Roads and Soi's until you reach the other side.
Never try to outrun the traffic either, wait until it is safe to cross all you new comers.
Not forgettting the crazy no brainers who use the public walkways as a convenient M.Bike short cut ect. ect and DGAF about pedestrians..

36 hours is fair warning. Now up to Hamas.
Then what?
It would be nice if it were that simple though I agree.
But if they once again stop the rocket attacks
Will Israel ever stop their expansion & illegal annexing of lands?
It is a vicious circle & does not seem to have an end.
Gaza was not annexed, it was handed unilaterally to the Palestinians, who have not stopped firing missiles since. This has nothing to do with lands being 'annexed'.
First of all I would like to post the following ref url apertaining to a David Frost interview today on Al jazera news television with Bishop Desmond TuTu.
http://www.aljazeera...5225355813.html
If you go 39.25 minutes into the interview there is a section that includes Jimmy Carter and they talk about the conflict and thier invovlement as " world Elders " ( approx 6 minutes )
Several high profile ex politicains and statespeople have formed a group of recognised and respected ex world leaders to try and negotiate ways to try and solve / end issues similar to the one relating to this debate and well worth viewing.
They specifically talk about what has been happening and how bad it has now become for the Palestinians.
It is of course a brief reference to how they learned of the the true scenario and who they all hold responsible for it,s continued escalation into the tragical consequences that keep re occuring.
...........................................................................
Re this debate this is my reaction to the continued quotes about Gaza as if it is the only reason for the conflict, while sadly ignoring this much broader and about Palestine and the Palestinian people of which Gaza is a part of.
It is not just about Gaza and all those contributing to his extended debate should be well aware of the reasons which go back to 1967 were Israel then started to not only ignore the reached agreement, but then started a prolonged persecution of the Palestinian people.
Incidently this was long before Hammas were elected to their present elected positions of power in Gaza.
Iironically the Iraelis shot themselves in the foot in relation to them being elected in the first place IMHO, due in many ways to Israels horrendous and inhuman treatment towards the Palistinian people and very restrictive embargos forced upon them.
What incentives are they prepared to offer the Palestinians by way of rectifying all the wrong they have systematically done to them over many years, not the other way round
Come to that when are they going to try and start a dialogue with the Hamas instead of a total refusal to recognise and negotiate common ground re their differences ect. ect..
A good start would be returning the land they have owned and worked for centuries to their rightful owners, compensate them for all the propertied they have plundered and / or destroyed and most importantly of all return the unlawful occupiers to Israel and give the newly built settlements to the Palestinian people by way of retribution andin sincere acknowledgement for thier wrongdoings since 1967
For me personally the Israelis have much to answer for in terms of human rights plus most the plundering of land / farms and property that has belonged to the Palestinians for centuries.

P.S. if you have time the full interview is worth a view IMHO

I am an experienced bike rider and have riden a bike here for 4 years with no accidents (so far). It can get scary at times though even if you ride defensively. The main problem is that thais (and some farangs) are so unpredictable. They pull out of junctions without looking, run red lights, signal left but turn right etc it's probably only a question of time before i get zapped. It would be hard to manage without a bike though as they as so convenient just to get around town (and so cheap).
Firstly, thanks to everyone for their replies.
Chris2004 just about sums up my feelings and concerns.
I start my walk anywhere from 4am to 5am and walk from 2 to 3 hours. With regards to traffic, this is an interesting time of day. While the volume of traffic is low, there are 3 types on the road: Thai people setting up to sell their products larer in the day (some coming from the Naklua market with huge amounts of stuff hanging all over their motocy's), huge Tour buses and Tour Vans (seems like the tour vans are always a little late and speeding a bit) and motocys - some OK but, some with someone driving who is drunk, speeding and erratic.
Although this is not the time of day that I would like to use a motocy, it forms my impression of safety.
The Ruckus - now called Zoomer, was 49cc in the US (had to be under 50cc to use bycicle lane), now, apprently designed and manufactured in Thailand, 110cc.
My real concern, since my use would be very limited, in addition to those mentioned by Chris2004 are the teenagers speeding in and out of traffic, doing wheelies and the occasional motocy going very slowly and you can't figure out what the heck they are doing (texting while they are driving).
Oh, what to do? what to do?
Anyway, thanks again for the replies.
Seems to me you are doing well without the use of a motorbikeT7.
If you ever need to go a short trip there should be several forms of transport readily avialable and cheap without tempting fate accident wise ect.
Like you, I walk for around for longish periods of time and follow a very enjoyable daily routine.
I also have a bicyle that I can use for any ventures out once returning to base and always manage to find an alternative safe route to get from A-B were the traffic is at a minimum and especially in Pattaya there are plenty of off road alternatives.. ( legally )
Exercise if you are able to partake in it fitness wise and is the best investment anyone can make, costs are minimal and can add many quality years to your life.
I M/Bike would take it all away and make you become robotic / zombified and unable to enjoy what we have at present, along with potentially becoming an accident waiting to happen.
A M/Bike can also take many years off life, reduce the quality of what you have now, plus time and convenience wise it can / could also make you a bit lazy were you would normally choose to walk these additional short distances.
People like you and I can also appreciate how it enables us to meet / enjoy an abundance of the social contact we get during our walk about.
Investing in your health is far more important IMHO and going by your OP I reckon you would agree.
So I,d offer the advice to do without and carry on the way you are now and enjoy what you already have.
marshbags
P.S.
I always wear a bicyle helmet, everytime without fail, when I use it.

Despite the headline sounding rather definite, all this article is, is mindless speculation.
a 'source' said this etc, 'Thaksin endorsed' etc etc
Why is this piece even published? Its not news. Cant they just wait until the PTP actually announce something?
Perhaps you should ask those putting it out. ( source )
The mindless speculation of course is provided by Thaksin and / or his messengers to confuse / test for the reactions ect. ect.
A typical PT aka Thaksin ploy
Then go for the one that attracts the most favourable reactions / appears to have the most potential, vote wise.

It is not very nice to return from the embassy and find out what you have is not enough and finish up have to return to Bangkok.Pension letters are available by post.
Thanks again for the info as in your previous post.
While I and others are already fully aware of what is available, url,s for the embassy including in this case applying by post re the letter.
Once this thread goes off the boil all that is posted on it relating to useful info will disappear with it.
Again I am thinking of all those who may / will need info in the future and what better than to have a dedicated thread pinned for easy access.
Members who wish to acces info pertinant to our local office and the embassy can benefit from it, especially new members and guests.
While it would also be useful for myself and others who are long time visa applicants as and when we may need to check for any current visa info and other considered useful info.
Thai Visa and our catchment area / membership can all benefit.
We have a brilliant informative local forum so why not enhance it with another useful facility if it can be made available.
While the next paragraph may be considered to be stretching the subject matter I reckon it is worth saying IMHO and helpful in general terms.
As members positive ideas and suggestions are beneficial for everyone and would I feel sure be appreciated so I encourage everyone to put them forward to admin for consideration unless of course as in this case a related thread is running and can be facilitated.
I am not out to make brownie points or enhance my reputation, this I reckon was established way back as to who I am in Thai visa debating / contribution terms.
I genuinely believe it a worthy idea and useful for everyone, but this is only my opinion and you either agree with it or not.... no problem, but if you do not ask you will never know otherwise.

Apologies for any confusion as to what I am suggesting in the post you have part quoted.
I am referring to a possible dedicated reference that can be pinned in the local Pattaya forum and kept current so members can access it as and when they need to.
Before contacting the embassy it would be useful and convenient to have all related info re visa,s requirements you need for a particular visa as pre the local imm.office
Because......
I,m sure you will appreciate that while there is a national directive on the requirements for visa information ect. ( Thai Immigration )
Each local immigration office has and enforces it,s own interpretations as to what is required, it is for this reason I thought may / would be an asset to everyone within the Pattaya catchment areas.
Surely having a pinned facility everyone can access would be appreciated and beneficial to the local members.
It may well be that what immigration requires may differ from what is on the embassies website ect.
At present both the consulate and the immigration office are conveniently situated but after it closes it means a trip to Bangkok for many.
We are all familiar with those who sadly get a little confused with what they have to do and need, so what better than to be able to access up to date, current info before going / applying.
It is not very nice to return from the embassy and find out what you have is not enough and finish up have to return to Bangkok.

This to include relevant information, required documentation and fees for both postal applications and going to the Embassy.
Is it possible to consider this please Rimmer on behalf of all who require this facility ???
It would be much appreciated by everyone / by most of us, for convenient reference and easy access.

I fancy nine out ten Thais are going to be disappointed.... but if by any chance she does get involved in anything resembling a live debate expect her to be wearing some very elaborate 'earrings'!
Well I would have to agree with you. BUT they arrived at that figure through a Thai poll. Kinda detracts from the statement.
After al this is Thailand hub of polls where you tell them what you want and they go out and get you a poll to prove it.
I,ve always treated political related polls in particular with suspicion.
How first of all can say for eg 1,500 pollsters represent over 30 million potential voters who have an opinion.
The areas seem to me are always favourable towards the ruling party and as you rightly stated, i,m with you HD.
I go by the last sentence in your quote and the obvious bias towards whoever or whatever the polls are initiated for and on behalf of.
Polls are totally meaningless and most certainly are not representative of a Thai consensus /opinion and thus is totally irrelevant apart from propogandist purposes.
\Then there are the lucrative monetary incentives available to achieve and favour a desired result.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said his ruling party would not assign coalition MPs to shield the prime minister.
The censure debate should be allowed to run its full course, Prompong said, confirming that the government had no worries about getting grilled by the opposition.
" He said his concern was not the scrutiny but the campaign to whip up rancour against the government in southern provinces, including Chumphon, Krabi, Surat Thani, Phuket and Ranong.
Critics were citing issues like the falling prices for natural rubber, oil palm nuts and coconuts to mobilise the masses to take part in the anti-government protests.
A promise to pay Bt1,500 for transport costs had been made to anyone agreeing to join the rallies, he said.
He vowed to collect evidence to assist security authorities to unmask those behind the campaign. "
The 1.5k is well and truly petty cash when compared to what the UDD / reds are paid for their services to Thaksin.
It has been going long before he volunteered to do a runner and in addition to expenses / bribes they are provided with copious amounts of free alcholic refreshments and Somtam to keep them happy and keep them in the mood to effect maximum fear and distruction on those who would dare to oppose him / them.
AS for collecting evidence against them, there is no need as it is already well documented and Thaksin as everyone knows is to arrogant to feel the need for a mask so there would be no difficulty in the area either.
Unbelievable hypocrisy, but always to be expected from this band of unprincipled, marauding bandits and plunderers.

Under the Westminster system, it is grounds for dismissal if you lie or mislead parliament (this may not apply here) which will put a whole new set of constraints on Yingluk. Sort of like being in court, where you can be charged with perjury, unless somebody changes the definition for you.
Depends on who's behalf / interests you doing the above, OM
If it,s in the interests of the exiled one or on behalf of the PT government you will either have been prepaid a mega fee ( bribe ) or depending on your performance, likely rewarded not only financially but earmarked for better things to come and a more deserving role of support within the party.

Do you even know what the oath of those joining the army is? The top responsibility is to protect the monarchy. Next is the state. The interest of its citizens doesn't even figure, certainly not expressly.
Here's a newsflash: People in charge of the biggest guns in Thailand don't have the highest moral ambitions at heart. If they did, they wouldn't control the biggest guns in Thailand. Even if you stepped off the plane yesterday I'd expect you to be less naive than that.
I purposely left out the monarchy while referring to lineofentry,s post, and out of consideration for Thai Visa,s respected and rspectful rules on related discussions.
May I politely suggest as a respectful member you do likewise.
It is an acceptable known for anyone and everyone who comes to Thailand and how the monarchy stay above politics as indeed the armed forces are.
Reverence is one thing that does not need to be expressed when recognising the highest institutiion of all and you and all others who would try to disrespectfully bring them into the ongoing scenario and you should know better.
Thaksin is doing his evil best to bring the country into disrepute and his interference out of self preservation and self only interest will be the eventual be the downfall of him and all who are openly supporting him,
The PT Government, UDD,redshirts and all similar associations doing his bidding, while totally ignoring Thailand and it,s loyal citizens to everything honest and decent appertaining to this country, it,s esteemed history and highly respected institutions ect.ect. is beyond the pail
To seemingly put the criminal on the run from justice as the be all and saviour of this countries wellbeing and it,s future is well and truly off the mark. ( and quite the opposite to what he represents.)
All those who naively believe the forementioned, before the bracket observation will eventually and hopefully one day realise what a selfish, self only, manipulating and devious low life he really is...and this includes all the unprincipled coherts who act on his behalf.
Like a cancer that is untreatable Thaksins self imitations of one re his destructive mind / thinking, will eventually destroy him.

Hopefully what I,m posting will be seen as a positive JH
Is there anyway that your location is compromised with possible info attached to them.
If so then it is advisable to change the main external locks.
For anyone viewing this thread who may need a timely reminder..
Never attache your addresses ect to the key retainer / keys as this could invite unwanted visitors.
If I,m staying at a hotel ect, I prefer to keep the key with me, but always detache any residence info and put it somewhere safe before going out.
Yes there are key drops ect, but I still prefer doing it this way.

Rip off hospital, oh my! You try and go private in the UK see how much that costs you, the service, staff, quality and all round cleanliness of BPH is amazing and cheap in comparison to what I am used to back home. Yes we are in Thailand so if you want thai prices I suggest you go to a state hospital and wait around for hours and hours in a hospital that frankly I would rather not have my son in. Again I guess some of us value health of our family more than others.
How do you know that this skin infection is not something related to another more serious illness? Thats what the checks are for, you didnt mention in your first post about anything that you had at home to check yourself, you simply moaned about the price which you also got wrong for a general checkup. 400 baht, oh dear!
In the U.K. NHS hospitals are plentiful with decent services and facilities so there is no need to go private under normal circumstances ( not forgetting the local family doctors we all take for granted )
It,s easy to knock the U.K. system and although your observations are unrelated I will always defend them.
As you have already said this is Thailand we are in so it isn,t relevant
The OP has politely requested alternative information as is their right and perhaps posters could offer some constructive information rather than repetatively keep having a go.

The democratically elected government have a mandate to govern until they are defeated at the ballot box. If any other grouping attempts to bypass this process, it is the duty of the army to protect the government. End of.
The army also have a duty to protect the Thai constitution, it,s laws and most importantly the interests of it,s citizens and prevent all those who would manipulate them for their own self serving interests ect. ect.
Based on this reasoning it would seem the actions taken to prevent the fugitive in voluntary exile continuing his dismantling and manipulation of the institutions that were in place to protect interference from this self only elected PM / CEO and others of similar status, thus the take over / coup was justified when compared to your above observations.

P.S.
This is why the forces must be completely free from interference of any elected government especially whereby self interest of it,s members are open to abuse.
Thailand as the whole world knows is very vunerable to personal and outside interference thanks to Thaksin Shinawatra who continually demonstrates this even while out of the country in exile.

My stepson collects money on loans customers have borrowed from a farang businessman.
Only two weeks ago he was rammed up the rear of his M.Bike by a speeding van and finished up unconscious in the ditch.
Fortunately he was found and taken to hospital.
For info purposes his employer is based in Bangkok and has a Thai manager who lives in the Chonburi area who is his local boss.
Some time after he woke up on the and and some time later, on getting his faculties back, discovered his takings of 35,000 baht and oddments had been taken from his pockets.
Fortunately he has made a good recovery apart from grazes and heavy bruising and reported for work yesterday.
His local boss told him he would have to pay back all the money that was stolen.
My step son was as you can imagine very upset and was shocked to sat the least.
Anyway he told his boss he thought it was wrong, especially as IMHO he was possibly targetted and he was also thinking along these lines.
The backstud confirmed he was serious and it had the blessing of the farang in Bangkok.
As he couldn,t pay it in one go asked to repay it monthly, with a definite no reply.
He,s worked for them over 4 years by the way but it didn,t matter one bit.
Anyway he told him he would get the money together and was ceasing his employment ASAP
This morning he paid the 35k and told him he was finished with them....would you believe, he asked him to stay as he was a good honest worker but would not reconsider penalising him for the stolen money ?????
What hard necked Evil Bastard he is.

P.S.
Sure it is hard life for many employees here, I thought i,d experienced most things re nasty worker boss relationships similar to this. but obviously I am still learning how low some of them can be.
Fortunately many bosses are kind and understanding and show appreciation towards their staff, sadly these two aren,t and do not.
He,s now looking for alternative employment ( honest and within the law ) and I have no doubt he will ( hopefully ) soon find it, he deserves better as he is a good lad.
Sometimes Thailand culture towards the less priviliged really pisses me off more than usual, this is one of such time.
Red-Shirt Co-Leader Arisman Gets Jail Sentence For Defaming Abhisit

Exactly kk.
As with all so called law the elite and priviliged are quite happy with it,s application / enforcement, knowing full well they will never have to serve out any jail time or meaningful punishments.
Arisman Pongruanrong should have been encarcerated long ago on an aray of offences lesser considered Thai would have certainly been banged up for / are, as for getting bail, sadly there is no a chance of meeting the requirements and conditions, nor the privilidged status and support a certain band of lawbreakers are given.
Teflon coated reds are, based on the inability to keep them in jail even in the most serious of cases, can always count on the support of the unprincipled government they voted into power to bail them out and consequently elite only privilige does not apply in their case.
Politically or otherwise for the benefit of those who use them to justify their horrendous crimes, it does not provide nor legitimise most of what they did and had been sentenced for / are awaiting trial for, not in any way.
As for the automatic immunuity for *MP's ect. it,s time they automatically lost this once convicted on sound evidence and found guilty as charged.
* All elected officials in parliament
