  1. Bullocks! Motorcycles are treated with far more leniency here than any other country in the world. They have the ability to travel on sidewalks and the wrong side of the road and basically wherever that bike can travel. They don't have to wear safety gear and can travel 3 or 4 or more up on a vehicle designed for 2 at best. Generally if in an accident with a larger vehicle it is rarely found to be the fault of the biker. Also bit rich talking about looking for other vehicles when most "Bikers" here don't even turn their <deleted> head slow down or cover their brake when merging into traffic. I was riding motorcycles well  before I could drive but I got taught to ride correctly to say motorcyclists have a hard time of it here is a <deleted> farce (big bikes should be allowed on highways though :(  ) Complete rubbish story.

I'm going to put all this bs down to the fact that many of those commenting probably mirror this clod - eg old, white male - and, on any other day, it could just as easily have been any one of them in a similar situation. This is why they try to pick apart the account of events to see if somehow, anyhow, it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding that's left two innocent people dead and a third in a coma.

Maybe they'll let him off with probation.

    <deleted> off.

If this had been a Thai, you lot would be coming up with all kinds of theories and have the geezer swinging from a tree by his neck already. But here, because it's "one of our own", suddenly there's scope for clemency. Some suggest he'll be sweet if he coughs up a couple of mill but I think the guy should go down for a long, long time. He was driving like a complete <deleted> after what was a minor collision and his sentence should reflect the fact that two people (potentially three) have lost their lives as a result.

Mate I reckon you are spot on here. I think there would plenty here, especially Aussies, that drink everyday and then jump in their car or on their bike. Some of those would also happily flout the speeding laws whilst intoxicated. Out of that lot there would be some that have heard the rumour and thus believe you never stay at the site of an accident in Thailand and so would then do a runner. Bloody Disgraceful and then as you say will try to find some mitigating circumstance such as they should have been wearing helmets. Some on here have even tried to say that because he may have a mental illness to consider that. Well if he does why the <deleted> is driving around in his car pissed? Today I am almost ashamed to be Australian because of this colossal fyckwit.  RIP to those that have passed.

Nonsense whoever does this is to blame don't bring in your 'perfect thais' bias into this discussion. Black, White, Farang or Thai he was in the wrong stop trolling please.

Where did I say Thais were perfect? I agree with the sentiment that if it were a Thai that had committed this crime the hang em high brigade would be well and truly out in force. The Aussie is a goose and deserves to be locked up for a very long time. Get over yourself mate im not trolling I agree with what Peterw42 has to say.

A team is being set up as we speak, the terms of reference will be to somehow apportion blame to Thailand, Thai people or the Thai police. So far the Thai police are partly to blame because they chased him, and the victims are to blame because they were 3 up on a scooter. The westerner did a runner, but thats a Thai thing.

If a Thai person did this it would be a 25 page lynch mob thread with 67 million Thais guilty by association.

    Truer words...

    That doesn't make sense.

If they were asking for proof of funds for a Non Imm O ME Visa, one would assume it was based on marriage or dependant of Thai child and the requirement would be 400,000 BHT.

Like Joe I haven't heard any reports stating funds are now required.

Yeah smelt a bit fishy to me to. Im calling bs on this one but thought I would ask. Cheers.

  6. Hi all. Mate got back from Savannakhet yesterday and reckons was asked to show 200000 baht in a bank book for his non O multiple entry visa. He said plenty were getting knocked back for not being able to show funds. Got my missus to ring them up though and there was no mention over the phone about showing any. Anyone been there in the last few days who could confirm or deny? Or is he just taking the piss?

What's wrong with China building high speed rail in Thailand?
The Chinese high speed rail I have travelled in was great. Fast comfortable and seemed of a high standard.
If the new high speed rail helps technological improvement, and helps develop the infrastructure, bring it on.

Not so much about speed but perhaps about ignoring all sorts of standards that must be recognised internationally, doing dodgy procurement deals ( although it must be said is an absolute artform in Thailand already) and probably the biggest no no invoking 44 to let Chinese work without a work permit, almost the holy grail of sins in this country. Falang can't even cut his grass without being asked for a work permit.

Perhaps you have come accustomed to Thai road users...But for most of us the death/accident rate on Thai roads really does tell all....Doesn't it...?

No I think what he is saying is that he feels safe on the roads, regardless of what statistics might otherwise imply. "His" opinion, pretty simple really.

The world is a dangerous place you say? How can i get off? -you say?  Easy, in Pattaya nearly every month people get off - from the balcony of their condominium.

Wear a parachute pack in case you change your mind last minute you could still pull on the cord.

They say, "Guns and knives don't kill people , people kill people"

Well really it's the bullets that kill people :shock1: :sorry:

Having been in buriram for 10 years there are no cameras from pattaya to buriram unless they are set at 170 kph!!!!

I'm hearing ya but this is Thaivisa for every one decent response you will get 4 or 5 from pretentious pricks who (apparently) have never done anything wrong telling you how to live your life. It's just par for the course.

One good solution would be to keep yourself within the speed limits. In that kind of peculiar way all the need to know regarding cameras and speed traps just fly away on unimportant wings. Just a suggestion.

Correct, and as it's the first time I've been done in 7 years living up that way I guess I am only human after all. I only ask because in Australia we have many speed variable "traps" where you will come off a highway into an area where it may go 90 then 80 then 90 all within a couple hundred metres.

I thought the joke was that he was looking for a place where the elite hang out in Pattaya. Like anyone that could anyway be considered elite would be caught dead anywhere near the joint.
