Brother Farang, I can remember 15 yrs ago, partying hard on Soi 4, then the disco in the hotel or off the "coffee shop" Thermae. Shack up with a 'sweet thang' for a couple of hours and be heading over to the Nana Cafe to eat breakfast at about that time of morning. I even ran into a couple 'friends' there one morning. I haven't been down there in over 7 years; although, we drove down soi 4 at about 9:30 this past Wednesday and sighted a couple of 'thang' who looked like they were headed home.

Good luck in you quest. I just don't have the desire anymore...

I could have written that myself. We probably were in the same bars at the same time back them. Today? No thanks. The noise, the crazy foreigners... But I think back then it was easy to meet some young office girl going for a night out. Today, it is all professional mercenaries. Money makers. Those good old days are gone.  But I do remember the great frustration because of girls always wanting a bite to eat on the street until the sun comes up.

  2. It is easy money for these "doctors". But I need to ask the question if they have a P.H.D. in dermatology or not . I honestly don't know.

My brother is a well known surgeon in orthopedics. He sews fingers back together and reconnects nerves etc. under microscope. When I asked him if he likes it, he replied, "No, half the people don't pay and it goes to Collections. I wish I did cosmetic surgery. Cash up front."

  3. I just returned from CW and asked the front desk for the latest TM7. When I mentioned it was for extension based on Retirement, the officer also handed me the attach "Statement" form. I have never seen this before nor seen it mentioned anywhere.

Who is supposed to complete it as a "guarantor"?

Are they supposed to come to the Immigration Interview with me to present it?

    The list keeps growing.

I wasn't impressed with the dental clinic in Bumrungrad or the one in Medpark, I can't speak to the others. But I would recommend Dental Hospital Bangkok. It's near Habito Mall at Sukhumvit 77. http://www.dentalhospitalbangkok.com/

It's definitely not the cheapest in town, but it was cheaper than Bumrungrad (the work wasn't comparable at MedPark, so I'm not sure about that.) But the service and quality of work was excellent. That was for a replacement crown and a root canal.

Agreed. Their standards are high. Just keep in mind, they can recommend solutions, but you have the right to decline them and take a more conservative approach. They will give you the options.  I have been very happy with this dental hospital for 10+ years. I got my first crown/root canal there and 5+ year later still going strong. They make the crowns onsite. Go have lunch and it is ready.

I have a Bangkok Bank account here in TH…how do I set it up in the USA for the transfer?

Will Bangkok Bank open the account in the US for me while I am here in TH?

I am surprised there haven't been many responses. I did this about 10 years ago just to see if it would work. Unfortunately I forgot exactly what I did, but it was simple. No need to setup special accounts, etc. I think I just sent an ACH transfer to the NYC branch (using their branch code), but used my Thailand Bangkok Bank account number (the first 3 digits are the branch code, the rest is your acct #). It was that simple. Please don't try it without more conformation. As I said, I can't remember exactly.

  6. I have always used AIG when traveling back to the U.S. Never used/needed it, but it was easy to signup and pay online. I once got burned traveling with a Thai GF and she needed to go to emergency. Learned my lesson. Never travel without it.

The banks will normally know it, when you ask for a bank letter to immigration for retirement extension. Both the banks I use – Bangkok Bank and SCB – have templates in the system. They will also provide the needed account statement. The fee use to be 100 baht for the letter and 100 baht for each account statement ("each" in case you need more than one account to show your 800k baht).

Thanks. Since you mentioned the bank statements, I always download monthly statements off their website. Would the IO accept those? Or must it be some kind of certified copy printed by the bank?

  8. I bought myself a sharpening stone, double sided with 2 different grits. I used to throw out my knives every few years. Now I still have the same ones for over 7 years and they are as sharp as the day I bought them.

You'd have thought the soi 2 traders....the Marriot in particular, could come to some arrangement.....it was a handy little cut through.

Agree. I have a few favorite food joints I used to visit frequently on Soi 2 before covid and the passthrough closing for hotel renovation. I am not interested in walking the long way around to get to them now.

Someone could make a comical Youtube video watching the security guards running amuck trying to stop everyone, and following them around to see if they are going the full walk or just popping into the somtum shop. 555.

  10. Was it shipping damage? If so, I deal with this all the time for my work. You must take photos and make a claim with the shipper (assuming is was something like DHL or FEDEX).  There must be photos of the damaged shipping box, etc. If no shipping damage, then do as others have suggested.

  11. Take note. Dentists are taught to say you need a crown any time a root canal is needed. Especially when they grind down your tooth and find a crack down in there. Every time I had a sensitive tooth that they ground deep, said a crack is there, and I need root canal and crown. Luckily, my sister was a dental assistant and told me the game. Dentists are playing it safe and go for the guarantee solution for all.

Root canals cannot be avoided if there is an infection in the root. (Make them show you the infection in the x-ray, it will look like a black void at the base of the root). She recommended to always go with the filling and not take the crown the first time. I have taken her advice and for 2 teeth, the fillings have worked just fine for 5 years now.
