22.5bill baht = $713m dollars or $357m per submarine.
Quite a deal when you consider a Sea-wolf class submarine cost $2.8 BILLION and a Virginia class $1.8 BILLION
But I wonder what the total bill will be: they will have to create specialised maintenance facilities, purchase specialised maintenance equipment, train crews, train maintenance staff!
But the Chinese will supply and provide all training -- at a price!

Speed cameras would slow down city traffic -- but fines could only be imposed on those who have registered their cars -- but, unfortunately, collecting fines would be open to ''corruption'' by the collectors.

Immediate confiscation and scrapping speeding vehicles would slow down traffic-- but, unfortunately, collecting fines would be open to ''corruption'' by the collectors.
The country has too many corrupt officials and corruption is an accepted ''norm'' -- and has such poor governments that it is impossible to curb road accidents!

It's unbelievable that anyone would contemplate that tourists will spend money on an expensive 10-12 hour plane trip, then spend 14 days in quarantine -- all for a 14-day holiday!
These people are so out of touch -- and they're running the country -- it's incredible! You couldn't make it up!

''But with flight bans and quarantines, the central bank expects only 8 million visitors this year.''
I wonder where these 8 million visitors are going to come from this year? Must have had a lot of people before the lockdown!

It makes me laugh! What do these people think is going on in the rest of the world?
''The certificate must be issued within 48 hours of the tourists departing from their countries''
In the UK it can take up to 5 days to get the ''all clear'' notification and ''bit of paper''! I guess it is't virtually ''automatic'' in many other countries also!

Good if painful report to say the least and the cost is excessive imo. Why any hotel costs 5500baht a night when good rooms can be had for way less anywhere in Thailand reeks of scamming and cashing in.
He has 'money' -- pretty obvious by reading his dialogue. He would have paid to stay in a 'better class' hotel than you and I would have been put in: his room overlooked the Chao Phraya River -- hotels a bit pricey there!

That if true I would want the death penalty as I am sure her parents would want
Any life even in prison is better than no life so death is a just punishment
If Rape was in this case I am sure these guys would not have bothered with a condom
So DNA at the scene should be a piece of cake to tie them to the murders
So how can there be any doubt unless the DNA was not a match
Be interesteing to follow that one up ?
You people -- 'some' of whom have no memory of this case [Terminator3AB!!!] are too quick in condemning!
The DNA samples were corrupted and later 'lost'!
The Police were pressured into making an arrest. These two poor Burmese boys may or may not have been guilty but were in the wrong place at the 'convenient' time! 'Influential' Thais were ignored after abandoning the island 'very quickly'.
If the rich Red Bull guy had been 'handled' as these two Burmese boys he would have been in prison now rather than living a life of luxury wherever he is!

Surreal. If anyone killed a family member of mine, death to them!
I expect that, due to the nature of their arrest, the inaccuracy of their police interviews, confusion over evidence, lost DNA, the very strange and quick departure of the relative of the Thai Head Man, and their trial and conviction -- the parents would have 'some' doubt that these two really were the murderers . . . or scapegoats . . . and prefer them not to be executed.

Satisfying to know that these Filipino teachers all complied with all Thai virus regulations and brought their 'bits of paper' stating they were Covid-free, money to pay for their 14-day quarantine in a Government hotel -- and all had the $100,000 US medical insurance with them??? ????????????
I shall have to investigate the possibility of using a Philippine Medical Insurance company when I return -- they are obviously much cheaper than in Europe!

And Boss travelled at 77kph, less than 60kph and 177.25kph. So naturally the "Witness" died of natural causes. Is the other "Witness" under Police protection?
But in the death of this ''Witness'' the police did not fail to administer an alcohol test immediately after the crash -- to prove that it was just an ''accident''. Well . . . allegedly!
The ''other'' Witness will be under police protection -- none of the protecting officers have ''ever'' been ''accused'' or even ''suspected'' of accepting bribes -- and the Witness is fine -- at the moment!
(Finding officers of such integrity was, of course, very easily done!)

Well, well, well, what do we have here. Is this the bomb that will sink "Boss" Red Bull, as well as all of those who were on the take and received there brown envelopes. When there are to many fingers in the pot then there are sure to be screw-ups and evidence of malfeasance to be found. I will bet that all those involved were pre-warned before this ticking time bomb hit the news and are scurrying for a deep dark hole to hide in. . . .
Nothing will happen! Drums will be beaten, voices raised with indignation. The Superintendent of Thonglor police will apologise for ''taking his eye of the ball'', a few of the investigating police will be transferred to desk duties ''while under investigation''. Nothing will ever be reported of those who have been suspended (? on full pay)!
None in the police or justice system will be imprisoned, ordered to pay back accepted ''bribes'/payments'', fined, or lose their jobs! There will be no ''great'' example to deter future RTP and Justice officials' corruption and so it will continue -- and continue to escalate!
''Boss'' will have new/lesser charges made against him -- just for appearance -- and he will continue to live a life of luxury in whatever countries he chooses to live in!
Justice will be seen to be done. Many words and no action. Mass Corruption will continue and this country will continue as normal -- in decline.

2.2 Situation of Patients with Suspected Symptoms of COVID-19 in Thailand.
On 7 August 2020 at 12.00, Thailand announced that 1,461 additional people met the criteria for PUI, raising the total to 385,860 PUI, as shown in Table 2.
https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/file/situation/situation-no216-080863.pdf
I have absolutely no idea what ''2.2 Situation of Patients'' or ''PUI'' mean!
Can anybody help me?

Do these people not look at ''International'' news?
Belgium, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, etc. -- China, India, USA, S. America, Bahamas, etc. -- How many countries have the virus under control?
Naive, childish and ignorant!

Reduced fees for entering National Parks and other areas are not going to make tourists come to Thailand!
- The cost of $100,000 covid medical insurance for 2-3 weeks' travel;
- the 2-week quarantine;
- the impossibility of getting a covid-free test result (that takes between 3-5+ days to obtain) which is dated no more than 72 hours of entering Thai Immigration;
- ''another'' covid-free paper before you can obtain a visa;
- and yet ''another'' piece of covid paper before booking a flight --
will deter many tourists from visiting the Kingdom for their holidays/vacations!
And until tourists start to return, many ''tourist attractions'' cannot afford to open!
These politicians have such a childish naivety it's amazing that the country has functioned for so long! Surely, there must be some educated people who are aware of the basics of economy, tourism, and general running the country in the country? A number must have been educated ''abroad''?

Unless the government drop their demands of tourists having to find $100,000 covid medical insurance, a bit of paper stating you are covid free less than 72 hours' old (covid tests can take 2-5 days for the results), and paying for 2 weeks' quarantine in a shabby hotel -- no tourists will come!

Considering the amount of corruption within the Immigration Service and the Police, IF there is a wish to stop such corruption then these officers should have been sacked immediately!
Transferring them to administrative duties is no deterrent to the ''others'' taking bribe money.
The Government is inept by letting these men maintain their jobs.

Looks terribly stupid.
Looks like brainwashing and fear works beyond expectation.
But 5% thinking brains is probably the common world percentage.
A ridiculously low number of people polled to get a true feeling of the population. Very silly to report it. But ''brainwashing''? No, definately not -- you can't say that.
And I can quite imagine that the majority of the population (the majority are not involved in the tourist industry ''directly'') do not wish to see people from heavily infected areas allowed into the Kingdom!
Parts of China, S. Korea, and the UK are still in lockdown. Cases are still occurring throughout the world. And the Monday figures (Monday's are always low due to data recording) were: USA 412, Brazil 716, India 675, Russia 95, UK 27!
Those figures would make every intelligent person ''a bit'' worried!
Of course, we all now know that the USA's leader claims that the Yanks have the lowest number of deaths in the world with 143,289 -- and 3,898,550 cases -- so obviously the USA is very safe! ???? The country that some have a ''Covid-19 Party'' to see if they can catch it -- or not! ????
If anything looks ''terribly stupid''; ''brainwashing and fear works beyond expectation''; and ''5% thinking brains'' it's what has been coming out of that country recently!!!

He does have a point however I think groups such as married and retired etc should be allowed to return. Yes keep the quarantine but relax some of the other requirements.
Which ones?

you might consider googling "travel health insurance" and then contact a carrier or agent. short-term travel insurance with covid19 cover is available now for less'n US$50 for 2-3 weeks. can easily be included in the price of a zero-dollar package tour along with covid19 testing.
and even after the flu magically disappears over the summer, thailand should keep the requirement for health insurance for tourists to reduce the number of unpaid hospital bills and gofundme begging campaigns.
You are probably younger than 70! You may find it's pretty expensive for us.
And the unpaid hospital bills confuses me. Whenever I've been to hospital I've always got to show my credit card before I see any health worker. How do these non-payers get away with it?

Much of 'Farangland' has been devastated economically by the corona virus. Many jobs will be lost there too and many countries have borrowed so much that 'somehow' it will have to be paid for -- possibly by taxation.
Eventually tourists will return to Thailand but high flight costs, the high Baht, high prices on beer, spirits, wine, and tobacco will deter some. Many that do may not have the same disposable income to throw around.

I wonder how unmarried father's carry a birth certificate of their child with them when they travel abroad to prove this for use on their return?
Or perhaps it is up to the mother to go to the authorities with the certificate for further processing so that it eventually gets to the immigration officers at Swampy and is available on the day of arrival? Sounds an impossible situation to me!

Hotel body demands govt reopen the country to foreigners

''the government should consider specific countries or cities and come up with promotions to bring back tourists.''
I wonder which countries -- or cities -- are considered safe? And say, if London is safe and I fly out of London but live in Manchester (which is currently a 'hot-spot'!) does that mean I'm coming from a safe city?
Whilst cases are rising again in Europe from Spain to Croatia, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, S. Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, S. America, USA, Australia -- even the Faeroe Islands had a death yesterday! So which specific country(ies) does she consider 'safe'? Ahh yes, China!
Every country is suffering economically. Many are either unemployed or will soon be unemployed! Other countries have borrowed billions of $s to help their economies. Hotels are closing down all over the world -- Thais think they are unique in this! The main difference is that most other countries have a benefit system that takes care of its people!
