BANGKOK (Reuters) - The number of tourist arrivals in Thailand fell 44.3% in February from a year earlier due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on Monday.
So, of the 55.7% of February 2019 numbers arrived! Not even knowing the actual 'numbers' this is a bit scary!
But no need to worry as I just read in a previous Thaivisa post that:
'Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yutthasak Supasorn said. “We believe that the outbreak could be controlled by the end of March'' '
-
“We believe that the outbreak could be controlled by the end of March . . .''
So that's all right then -- no problem! Carry on as normal.

''He went through the Thai education system'' -- explains a lot!

Makes me ashamed to be English! Poor man.
So many times do I hear Europeans/Aussies/Yanks ridiculing the Thais and . . . 'questioning their intelligence' -- but so many mindless acts are committed in our countries! Countries that supposedly have wonderful education systems and citizens that consider they are intellectually superior to 'others'.
Last weekend there were another 4 stabbings in London (over 114 in the last year); drunk drivers are having accidents on almost a daily basis; our police do not follow up on burgalries or car theft; and 4 days ago a 'non'-celebrity committed suicide and the UK news channels have been constantly broadcasting this terrible tragedy and telling those that ''are feeling depressed or suicideal due to the suicide of this woman'' should contact the Samaritans, the BBC, ITV, and Sky websites (created for this event) to receive counselling!
Seems to me that stupidity is more contagious than the coronovirus!

Whilst World Health Chiefs declare coronavirus a global emergency, Anutin Charnvirakul said on Thursday that he "plans" to ask the Chinese Government to verify that tourists applying for visa on arrival have no risk of infection!
How can the Chinese Government ensure that all Chinese tourists are "free" from the virus without keeping them in isolation for up to 2 weeks!

'Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has expressed helplessness.
"We cannot simply put the blame on people and penalise all the polluters because the outcome of penalty measures will create other serious problems for society," Prayuth told reporters on Monday.'
And so it will go on and on -- until the number of deaths becomes a world scandal, eh! If burning crops is illegal then start making arrests and imposing fines! Get the army out to help the police detain the offenders!
Take the old songthaews, buses, and lorries that belch smoke off the road -- fine owners and scrap the vehicles!

Only in third-world countries with little infrastructure would any government allow their soldiers to take weapons out of military barracks when not on duty!

Employing many more 'qualified' Teachers of English would be a good policy to introduce. But by far the ideal would be to employ Thai nationals as English teachers -- but poor 'resources' makes this impossible to achieve!
Another great hurdle is to convince the students that it will be beneficial for them to learn English. Most students have no desire, and see no reason, to learn English! They see no advantage in their future expectations. They are Thai, they will live in Thailand, their friends speak Thai -- so what's the purpose of learning English.
I taught English and, during my time teaching, never came across one student over the age of 12 that wanted to learn English -- and many didn't want to learn any subject at all. Many Parents have no interest in their child's education -- due to the fact they themselves had a poor education and exist in employment that needs no other language than Thai.
Until the Thai education system is improved and parents are better educated little will change.

Lots of comments criticising the police action and marksmanship -- even giving the responsible person the death penalty! Obviously stingers and tazers would help in many cases but wouldn't in this case.
Thailand is a large third-world country. The police are only semi-trained and buying their own ammunition is not conducive to any firearms practice! The Law allows them to carry guns, the Law allows them to fire their weapons without seeking permission. The blame should be on the Law rather than the policeman who unwisely shot poorly from a moving vehicle! And in Thailand the Law ain't gonna change!

Is the Thai public data infrastructure is capable of compiling the TM30 reports that, once entered on to a central database by personnel in police stations all over the country, will be compiled together, processed into a huge database broken down into area, then city, towns, villages, alphabetically -- taking into account the names of peoples of different nationalities -- then searched for the names of any undesirables and overstayers?
Of course, the data will have to be updated on a daily basis adding to it, taking off those 'tee-em-thirtyers' who have moved from their hotel/apartment/residence and who 'may' be re-entered when they move to another address to ensure not too many duplicates are entered! Of course, the expiry dates of visas will be interlinked with Immigration's database to ensure farangs have left the kingdom (or not!)! Phew!
Seems they have a very sophisticated bit of software here ! Very!

I still find this extremely hard to believe as the hospital will never let you leave until paid in full. How do you rack up a bill and then walk away?
All we can do is wait and see what comes out and how it is written. Not going to speculate, but I have my feeling there is more to it than that..
Yes. Whenever I've been treated in hospitals in Chiang Mai and Bangkok I had to provide a credit card before receiving any treatment.
I would expect that there is more likelihood of the soon-to-be-seen influx of Chinese, Pakistani, and Indian short-term tourists not paying -- especially the Indian and Pakistani who will 'disappear' once past Immigration!

Note the photo of the fisherman trying to roll the boat out of harms way and there are other similar photos in the media.
Why no much more efficient help to do this from local authorities or the army?
Police and Army helping? They are much too busy making sure they all (many) get in front of the TV cameras and for the photo shoots after an arrest is made!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa ConnectIt amazes me how they do not accept a European driving licence; the requisites for obtaining one are far higher than those required to obtain a Thai driving licence!

Just driven from Fang to Chiang Mai -- ''many'' idiot drivers -- but the worst was a car overtaking 2 cars, a minivan, and a pick-up on a blind bend -- 4 vehicles!
I expect he wanted to get to work early!

Despite being victimized, the 12-year-old was charged with assault leading to death.

I have been attending court for many years, and cannot believe for an instant that the court is going to convict her, or give her any punishment. She is the victim and has been for some time it seems. It is very sad that a 12 year old should be in this position in the first place. What she needs now is counseling and support. I just hope the powers that be, recognise such and do so promptly, before she suffers further.
I hope you are right. The girl needs counselling and help -- but will she get it?

While you are unlikely to be shot by police, whether you can have confidence in the Thai police is another matter altogether.
Was the gun a police issue or his own weapon. If it was a police issue why are they allowed to keep them when off duty?

The reason that the Malaysian buoys were not working was because there could not be an agreement as to who should supervise the maintenance and who should be responsible for the cost of this maintenance!
One could safely make the assumption that this is a similar situation in the Land of Smiles!
I wonder if it has now been serviced and is working . . . yet?

He was lucky to get his money back. Possibly because he reported this to his embassy and he had Thai friends to help him!
Most customers that are scammed at the CM karaoke venues are rough-handled until they pay up and the police don't want to know about it. Perhaps the lack of police involvement is due to the fact that many CM karaoke outlets are . . . owned by police?

It amazes me that taxi drivers on 4 or 2 wheels get public service licences; they then drive without lights; break all manner of safe driving rules; are never apprehended by Pattaya Plod; get to indulge in all kinds of intimidating behaviour; do not use their meters against the laws of the land; besmirch Pattaya's reputation as a 'World Class Resort' and are never prosecuted.
And I expect a German -- and most other European -- driving licence is much harder to get than a Thai one!

It's a Thai thing. I've just come back from Koh Lanta and everywhere there one sees piles of rubbish. All Thai resorts are spoilt by piles of rubbish discarded by the roadsides.
"Come to our beautiful beaches and ignore piles of stinking rubbish left on the roadsides"! They ALL think nothing of dumping their rubbish anywhere they want.

Don't need to waste money to run campaign. People here don't give a damn on the road.
Asia is too big and too old to be brought into the 21st century! These people should not be handed the capability to drive like maniacs in cars far too big for them to control properly.
Most Thais are poorly educated and not over-intelligent. It's a shame but it's a fact.

Far too late now. The measure should have been taken months ago. Thai infrastructure is not capable of controlling the flow of people or to control those infected.
