The majority of the attacks is on sober tourists who displays their values such as expensive watches, jewelry and cash in the same way they are used to in their home country - With this in mind it could be a good start to educate ...

Doesn't wear jewellery. However, I think immigration should inform all tourists entering Thailand don't wear a watch you could end up being robbed or assaulted unless it's a Mickey Mouse Timex.

That's a shame man and thus understandable why you're so protective of your daughters that are coming over. Pleased be assured I meant you no disrespect discussing the relative safety of Thailand. I do believe expats convey a huge amount of disinformation and exaggeration on this website and I erroneously applied knowledge of that to you, and for that I apologize. Hopefully your family will enjoy a safe and happy time over here with no drama.

Thank you my friend and I'm glad you see why I'm being so cautious all the best mate.

Sorry if you feel I'm insulting you, if you reread, possibly you'll see that I wasn't. I was commenting on the your apparent need for bodyguards because your family is visiting which I said was unnecessary UNLESS your living in a real bad area. You took it erroneously but that's beyond my control..

My son was attacked 2 years ago in Thailand. He neither drinks or takes drugs and this is another reason I'm on red alert mate.

Nah, I'm not suggesting that people don't drink on holiday. I just believe when people are using drugs they should have situational awareness especially in a foreign country. A lot of incidents occur when judgement is altered and the realization they're not in a nanny state anymore escapes them. YOU have to look after YOU when you leave the shores of your mother country, if you want to be babysat, stay home. As far as you having 'company guards' looking after your daughters imo that's a little over the top unless your planning to stay in the worst BKK slum. I've had relatives and friends visit me over 15 yrs now and nobody has had an issue here but then again they haven't gotten blind drunk and ran amok. I've seen enough in my time in Thailand to note a lot of visitors (and expat) troubles could of been avoided with a little less reliance on the courage in the bottle.

Thanks for the assumption that they'll be living in or holidaying in a slum area with bodyguards. I know you were just trying to slur my character but I'm beyond these insults that I've had for many a year on this site and pointless to retaliate. Get a life mate ....

  5. take booze out of the mix and these numbers change dramatically..
    Yeah
So you think that take drink out of the equation that people should act responsibly and not drink alcohol while on holiday. I put it to you it's epidemic in much higher figures in Asia not just Thailand albeit drunk/not drunk that are never reported. I'm not saying you're a Thai apologist but believe young women coming to this country for instance there is definitely safety in numbers. My own two daughters are coming to Thailand soon but they will be with a couple of our companies guards. Otherwise, I would not even contemplate letting them come here or would regret it for the rest of my life. I couldn't care less what others think, it's what I think that counts and no offence to you personally my friend.
    Have a great day.

not sure if the breed should be banned - but keeping 6 of them together is utterly irresponsible.

It should be made sure that the owner is qualified (I mean really qualified, not the Thai way qualificatioin). And not more than one dog.

I totally agree on that one I had one pitbull in the past and you would have been safer with the crocodile lol

  7. If I hit a nerve then good as that's what I was hoping to do. You somehow drew the conclusion those that respond to you posts that don't agree with you are all folks that are "beer guzzlers" or "like alcohol too much". Considering you don't know any of those folks you shouldn't jump to conclusions just like you don't want folks jumping to conclusions with you.

When you state that people who exercise a lot don't consume a lot of beer, etc you are fooling yourself. Just look at professional athletes all over the world. Do you think NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL players don't drink a LOT of beer/booze? If not you are fooling yourself. In the NFL they are on a plane home within a few hours after the game but there are a lot of bottles/cans opened on the plane. As far as the NBA, NHL and MLB players who are on the road for sometimes 2 weeks long their drinking is legendary.

Even Arnold loves his beer. There were several pics recently of him and his son at an Octoberfest and the stein he had was HUGE and I'm sure he had more than one. When he was training for competition it was a different story.

Bottom line is that training is fine but don't call others that don't agree with you beer guzzlers. I work out several times a week. I drink beer it's true. BUT, everything is in moderation. If I were to "guzzle" I'd run the chance of spilling some on my shirt and that would be wasted beer. [emoji846]

I wish you well with your training after your long time away from it.

Sorry I never had a spare 3 hours to read your reply. My father always told me don't trust anyone who doesn't drink is a great policy. Given that' our company own a hotel group the only way I could stop drinking is if I had a roll of duct tape. When you told me all about your gym training I broke out in a sweat and I had to have a few beers.

Thank you for all your kind advice but please pass it on to someone else I'm off to the pub.

    Cheers

  8. I can't believe that someone who has been so long on the forum is so ignorant. Many of these guys are Thais and born here. This has been explained quite a few time on the forum.

Sure there are a few that are NOT legal but the majority are legal as they are Thai. This topic has come up again and again. People talking about the Indians in MBK ect.

Yes I forgot any skin not white makes it look bad.. while it was a white drunk Brit causing carnage in Pattaya only yesterday. I prefer looking at Indians then having guys like that Brit in Thailand.
They should pick up people for not working or sleeping at taxi ranks, benches, hammocks etc; as these bone idle bastards would be scared to death if they had to have a real job. Nothing wrong with getting drunk but I never read the article as I could have for a living sometimes but I don't bother anyone is became a lifelong hobby and being Scottish we are part of our National pride lol

  9. Go fund me.      x

    Loan.

All those friends and family and nobody is prepared to loan this woman £10,000 instead they go to the local paper to assist in begging money from strangers. I understand that many Brits, used to the welfare state, travel abroad without insurance and expect others to pick up the tab but I don't have to like it. My mother is 86, regularly travels abroad and arranges insurance every time, which she has never used.
You're all heart ! I would like to nominate you for Heart of Gold award. Because you would bring a tear to a glass eye lol

It's a civil matter, if you want to initiate legal action you need to go to a lawyer.

If it's not a large amount of money then you can easily spend more on the lawyer than you will ever recover, especially if the person who borrowed has no assets.

If it's a large amount of money and the person is simply choosing not to pay then it might be worth going to a lawyer.

I personally think he should just beat him up lol

I had asthma as a child and am still bothered several times a year with bronchitis and coughing that can last 3 weeks before going away.  The air is not that good here--I can tell by my 'gunk' test.  If you have a ceiling fan you use regularly, take a look at the blades.  Likely the leading edge will be gray-black with gunk--picked up as the blade rotates through the dirty air.  We used to have to clean out ceiling fan blades about one a month.   I say 'used to' because we have moved to a condo right on the ocean. So far our ceiling fan blades have remained free of gunk so maybe the air is a little cleaner by the water.

     Hi there
Out of personal interest can you tell me do you think the air-con improves or makes asthma worse. Thanks for your reply in advance.

Thailand is very much like the Hotel California

You can check out anytime you want but you may never leave because when you do for 2 week vacations you

just want to get back to LOS asap. Like you need a hit, dose, what ever it gave

But, if you do leave for a repatriation the first few months will be rough especially if you lived in LOS more than 6+years

but then something strange starts to happen.

You start to see again & realize it was just a very strong mirage that made a pile of crap shine brightly

You start to notice what true quality means. Quality in food, services, people

You also start to notice it costs about the same as it did in LOS except now you have that quality

Your mileage may vary but at the end of the day if you get past the withdrawals you may find it is true.

You were right on one thing - a dose haha
