  1. I understand that there is unfortunately human trafficking in Thailand including procuring underage girls for the sex trade but why are the authorities acting on this? It's to appease the US........for gawds sake the US biggest bunch of hypocrites in the world what about their own trafficking problems regarding Mexicans & the like. There numbers must surely eclipse that of Thailand, they are also subject to the same abuse. People in glass houses setting the rules.

  2. "I am actually against the installation of condom- vending machines in schools.

I am -on the other hand- for sex ed in schools.

Without it, condoms are worth pretty much nothing."

Agreed, but if you are 15 or 16 buying condoms at 7 Eleven would be an uncomfortable experience & also you would be seen clearly as underage. Having them available at school they could purchase them more discretely.

  3. "Actually sex education has no place in school."

Well where should sex education be conducted........at the maternity ward or after they contract an STD. Secondary school is probably the most appropriate place for such education. Thailand has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in SEA which means that they are having SEX so why not try to make it safe & responsible too. Don't just bury your head in the sand & say it's not happening!!!

  4. Surely they are not going to hand this to the morons running the ALP, so that shorten and his mates can continue destroying Australia's future because they will take off from where RUDD GILLARD RUDD left off.

Australia is DOOMED Under the ALP !

Unless they get rid of Abbott for Turnbull They will hand power over to the ALP next election for sure. As far as Australia being DOOMED under the ALP well the Australian economy isn't fairing too well under this government is it. I mean <deleted> AUD to Baht 24.60 lowest currency in the western world.

  5. Probably not.

Thai logic has it to increase prices to compensate for low custom.

    T.I.T.

Thai logic OMG........I had a discussion with the manageress of a small but up market bar/restaurant in CM. Business was down so what did they do, put the price up from 60-80 baht for a Chaang. At the time this increase made it the most expensive in the area. So what happened???.....even less customers. By the way the manageress has a dip. hotel management.

  6. bangkokheat, on 29 Dec 2014 - 09:19, said:

immigration, poolice, tat and the government have been making it difficult for expats and tourists, pushing them away, bet thats not helping the cash flow

Nonsense! The only people effected by the recent crackdown have been foreigners living here on multiple VOA's.

    Don't post drivel.

Sorry but this post is correct, I mean like it or not there are a lot less farang here now due to the crack down by immigration on those supposed undesirables. The thing is......they spent locally, they certainly didn't put money into their bank accounts they spent every baht. That had a ripple affect across every type of business. So a bucket load less money in the economy.

  7. Indeed, and in terms of volume of rubbish deposited the Thais are world leaders. Even with large and visible rubbish containers within 50 meters they will just get up and leave the mess behind. I have even been castigated by Thais for picking up other peoples' rubbish when I leave.

"No! Leave it, it is not ours".

That's because if YOU a farang cleans up the rubbish, they will lose face. Go to pretty much any lovely location you will see <deleted> everywhere left by Thai

    s more than anyone else.

  8. If the management of a supermarket or a shopping mall were to point out they do this sort of thing every year would they be hauled off for Attitude Adjustment ?

The commencement date is hilarious 24th. I mean people have already bought their Christmas gifts. Just like in the west the daysfollowing Christmas is when the post Christmas sales are on to get rid of all the stock that didn't sell before Christmas. So the Thai people are being given NOTHING the same as for the price of gasoline given NOTHING.....What an insult to ones intelligence.

  9. I think that I would sell everything secretly and tell her to go get F.

This is what I did and what I will always do.

Nobody has right about the money I make, not even governments...

What about the children F them too aye mate!!!......selfish & irresponsible thinking but hell at least you've got your money!!!

  10. As to the problem of not being in the country, ATO can take 34% of any earnings if you've been outside for 2+ years.

With regards to this Superannuation is for a persons retirement so surely that should be exempt from a grab of 34%. I think that they are just dirty on us because we haven't paid any income tax in Oz whilst O/S & they figure that we owe them !!!!.....Despicable desperation !!!!

  11. I have a superannuation fund with QSuper in Oz & yesterday I was able to stop an attempt by the ATO & only by chance that is to acquire my money. The reason being that I have not contributed to said fund since 2009 & as I have been overseas for a long period I am seen as "not an ordinary citizen" so they classed it as a dead fund. The thing is this whilst overseas I am not allowed to make contributions as they are scared of money laundering blah blah blah. I was not sent any communication prior to this so what would happen to my investment in the care of the ATO.....0% return probably. So Aussies be vigilant, they want your money.

  12. "The economy of Australia is one of the largest capitalist economies in the world, with a GDP of US$1 trillion as of 2013

In 2010, Australia registered a $16.8 billion trade surplus, with goods and services exported to more than 200 countries.

    http://www.dfat.gov....lance-2011.html

OK, so why is the Aussie dollar so bloody low..........Thailand has had so much unrest & instability in every area yet the Baht has been stable right through it. Didn't Abbott just jerk off about his huge trade deal with China. One would have thought that that was a positive for the country....but no, zero effect!!!

  13. Hey, if the 'dear leader' put a self serving twist on the so called 'gift' who's to stop him?

really, how many ordinary Thai people knows that the price of crude has dropped

under $60 now? for them, it's a gift from the government...

Agree 100% the AVERAGE Thai doesn't watch the news or read a paper, in fact when I try to bring up conversation about news topics in general they run a mile......they don't want to make a comment.....Jeab Hua (hurts their head they say). Saying that Thai news just doesn't allow that type in information to be broadcast anyway......so yes a gift from the Government he he he......

  14. I find it confusing in that some people suggest leaving the 800,000 in a fixed term account & not touching it. What are you living off here in Thailand. If you had other income coming in, that would then have to be shown that it comes from overseas YES or NO? I ask this because if I was an Immigration Officer & I saw a book with no withdrawals I would ask "what are you living on. Are you working here illegally?"

  15. in case you take one of those farang cows, do you have to pay a barfine too ?

    smile.png

mai dee ... not (a) good comment.

No need to gutter talk here.

Sure, we are all adults ... but let's at least stay on the pavement/sidewalk ... no need for the Gutter.

... and believe me ... I'm no Moral Crusader.

Via la Thailand ... for all it's idiosyncrasies

Dude IMHO we males always pay...... the sex / relationship is never ever FREE whether that's in the west of LOS.

  16. Remember, when these people speak to their " friends/relatives " it is USUALLY all about them and never about you as the person who has paid for everything.

The advice from their friends/relatives will always be as to how to cheat you out of your investment. As fast as you are looking at ways to protect your investment, they are looking at ways to get out of it.

I certainly agree with another posters suggestion (zeekgarcia) in buying a piece of land completely unconnected from your lady or her family and buying the land, probably through a company, and building as suggested.

If it is in any way connected to their land or their former land, they consider it as you are the intruder trying to take what is theirs and that is the mentality.

However, the question then is, would you honestly want to be in that locality if there was a break in the relationship and is there enough around there to occupy you and keep you in the lifestyle that you desire as a single person?

I completely agree, If the land is family land......it is their land, never yours even if you build the house. In Thailand it is usually the GF/Wife's family that destroys the relationship.

  17. 1. The people - the Thai people I know are friendly, humble and respectful (as I am to them).

    2. The weather - sure, a little too hot at times but preferable to the cold winters in OZ.

    3. The food - the delightful flavours and aromas of Thai cuisine, in my opinion, the best in the world.

    4. The culture - the colours, the costumes, the temples and what I call the "inner peace" of the people.

    5. The smiles - I don't know of any other big city that has the abundance of smiles that Bangkok has.

    6. The freedom - the ability to life my life as I want, with little or no bureaucratic nonsense.

    7. The lifestyle - sabai sabai, jai yen yen

    8. The affordability - food, utilities, public transport so much cheaper here for me.

    9. Oh, and of course.....It's not OZ!

Sure there are negatives.....but my glass is always half full! On the rare occasions I begin to feel a little down, I think of the alternative and that simply puts a smile on my face and brightens my day.wai.gif.pagespeed.ce.ptXUXgG4cA.gif

Totally agree here mate. Sure there are negatives but the positive aspects of living here or trying to live here to me far out way the negatives. If they didn't we wouldn't all still be here............I think the whingers & complainers here would be whingers & complainers back in their own countries as well.

  18. The momentum and the general sentiment, Thailand rules, foreigners suck has been underway for well over a decade, so such moves are fully expected and there will be many more like it I'm sure. That it seems that it will harm the country, well, the elites won't be harmed, the more trashed the economy the more they will benefit, so it is likely a deliberate move to make things worse. More cheap labor, cheap assets to snatch up and away they go.

I believe this to be the logic of the ruling Thai's for sure. They don't give a damn about the country they just care about their own wealth.
