First off, she said " foreign tourists" not "foreign expats." Don't confuse the two.
Second, they must have just passed that 90 day reporting requirement because surely you would not have sought out employment in a country that had such unacceptable immigration policies.
Don't move to Thailand and then complain about the immigration laws that you fully accepted when you decided to move there.
Take a look at my previous post. I'm going to Hawaii instead of Thailand this year. I choose not to go to Thailand as a tourist during the mourning period because I want to have a good time when I'm on vacation. It would be idiotic of me to book a trip anyway and then complain that Thais were in mourning.
"Don't move to Thailand and then complain about the immigration laws that you fully accepted when you decided to move there."
A point that needs to be made is that the Immigration laws that people fully accepted when they moved here are NOT the same Immigration laws that are in place now!

Perhaps you missed the report on the seminar in Chiang Mai where those that were working/retired here were referred to as 'long-stay tourists.'
"Long stay tourists are defined differently by different departments, the TAT identifies anyone as a long-stayer who has been in Thailand more than year, while other organizations can view people as long-stay who are here for more than a month."
In which case, there must be an awful lot of "long stay tourists" here from Burma!

when she says " the welcome for foreign tourist would be the usually warm one " , does that include the foreigners who work and pay taxes here for many years , or are they going to continue to make life for them more and more complicated ? Has somebody ever heard of a country where you need to report every 90 days when you got a one year , multiple entry visa plus a valid work permit and a fixed address ?
Of course not! The "warm welcome " is for TOURISTS, as stated above!

Probably as I acquired an amount of $302 legally in Aust from a punt but which is ilegal by thai law and I gave that money to my wife to buy a thai lottery ticket and we won, we could probably be charged with money laundering.
Absolutely farcical because you are probably right! Goes hand in glove with arresting Bridge players because there were too many packs of cards owned by one individual!

If what he did in the Netherlands wasn't ilegal there and he hasn't committed any offence in Thailand, why the 103 yr sentence?
I went to the casino when in Australia and spent $10.00 on the pokies which is totally legal there so does that now mean I can be arrested in Thailand because it's ilegal here? (Won $312.00 which I brought back to Thailand )
Very good point! What would the situation be if you spent that money on the Lottery here?

I thought that a couple weeks ago there was a stop put on all the arrest photo opps. A lot of ramifications if they have the wrong guy or is proven innocent was the reasoning. People remember the photo and seem to judge you guilty wether you are or not.
I thought that you would know by now that here you are guilty until proven innocent? (B2)
And it looks like at least one of the cops would rather not be there!

Yes your as sharp as the best knife on Alixpress now. Basically I believe what u see and here direct from the Thais closing doors. There numbers are false and outrageous news casts. They have very little falang. It's all China. They love that. BIG seizures and pocket money.
I think we've been singing from the same hymn sheet all along - you just didn't get the intended sarcasm implied with the

Right, I've sharpened up!
You mean that The Ministry figures are always 100% correct, and that 24.28 million people have already been here in the first 6 months of this year (Where? I never saw them! Oh, they were all on tour buses in Pattaya, or went up to Esan to discover the real Thailand!), and the full year target of 32 million will be met by a mere 8 million tourists during the second half of the year. So, in spite of "recent events", the ever decreasing low exchange rate to the British Pound, the bombings in Bangkok and other parts of the country, the numerous vicious attacks on tourists by Thai thugs/"bouncers", this has not affected tourism in ANY way, and if anything has actually been more than the original forecast, as the second half of the year should only need about half the numbers to achieve the forecasted annual figure.
Oh, I feel really sharp now!

With the sensitivity of the issue and the media reports of bashings with police support and follow up arrest of anyone who has had a finger pointed in there direction. Along with the restrictions in place and the sharp drop in shares.
I would say it's had a huge impact on tourism namely white skinned variety.
But - did you not read the headline? :-

There is a school of thought that holds that they are about as effective as a chocolate teapot, and as for their claims to serve their customers, that they lie like a NAAFI alarm clock!
Whilst I have had little to do with them, they struck me as very expensive and slow.
I also have had very little to do with the Embassy in general, but I have found the Consular Section extremely helpful, polite, and very prompt with their services.

i moved to australia in 1997. first week i was there i watched a tv show called winging poms. they were complaining about the noises the birds make and how aussies love big steaks on the barbie but dont care about how tender they are.
great joke on that show i still remember almost 20 years on. when a plane lands at sydney airport how do you know its full of poms? the engine shuts down but the whining continues.
And we all know where the Aussies originated, don't we?

They should make it mandatory that hotel and resort guests spend 2 or 3 hours a day early in the morning cleaning their garbage up. There should also be a tax levied hidden in ticket prices to pay for this effort.
Stop blaming the Thais they only build resorts and have garbage because of the reckless tourists that come here. They could also sell low carbon footprint eco packages where you pay the money for the package and simply stay at home.
In all seriousness I can't believe anybody is even suggesting the tourists do the clean up and that the people on this holiday don't have any right to their opinions. Maybe they should have done their research sure. Then again maybe Thailand should start cleaning it's act up. If they don't these stories will get out more often. The country is honestly turning into a cess pit right in front of our eyes.
It seems that a lot of people don't appreciate sarcasm, and in some later posts you are being taken seriously in your first 2 paragraphs! Or maybe you are being serious?

Stop blaming the Thais? Open your eyes. The national attitude to littering is awful. Yesterday I saw a plastic water bottle thrown out of the car in front of me on a highway. Not only littering, but dangerous. Just one data point out of a many.
I think the poster was being a tad sarcastic if you read it right through!

isn't it Koh Samui (or perhaps all the islands) that have huge dump sites that are becoming a massive problem, this is typical of Thailand, they have been reaping in huge tourist revenue for decades but are unwilling to spend any of it on infrastructure - health and safety - building standards etc etc etc, get it in pocket as fast as possible spending little to nothing on improvements - they only have their greedy selves to blame when people take their business elsewhere
Correct about Koh Samui - posted many times - this is from 2015 and nothing done yet:-

Samui’s garbage disposal problem is escalating out of control. With an incinerator that has been out of action for
years, mountains of rubbish and waste piling up around the roads leading to the garbage site, and a garbage site full to capacity it is little wonder that the rivers and ponds in a two mile vicinity of the unit are polluted, contaminated and toxic.
The buildings at the garbage control unit are abandoned, the windows have been smashed, the staff are long gone and all that remains is a stinking, toxic derelict site with no change in sight.
Despite Major Ramnate Jaikwangbeing issued an ultimatum from the Governor of Surat Thani and the army to bring in new contractors to deal with Samui’s garbage crisis, and fix the incinerator that was out of order at the beginning of his term in 2008, nothing seems to have been done, but quite clearly the need for something to be done is now of the utmost urgency.

Sorry, I thought you meant the ThaiVisa heading as that is the post that we are discussing - the one you refer to is in Thai, and would imagine that 90% of posters (myself included) would not understand a word of of it!

The original Heading doesn't even mention dominoes, only Mahjong.
Why the need to go on about gambling debts, nobody is arguing?
Gambling is a big part of Thai culture and I know all the laws as I was an online poker pro for 5 years.
https://www.imolin.org/doc/amlid/Thailand_Gambling Act B E 2478.pdf
I have been arrested for playing poker live but let off for a warning. In my 31 years, I've never known of ANY punter to be fined more than 1000 baht. It's not serious. They just do these raids from time to time.

You obviously didn't read the link - 14 decks of cards, dice, majong etc.
This was an illegal gambling den and those making fun of the fact that they were over 60 don't understand the seriousness of this offence.
Those who think there was no large gambling here are totally naive or just trying to show their imagined superiority.
"Taken into evidence were two sets of dominos, playing cards, mahjong sets and some dice."
You obviously didn't read Post #115 (above)
"What happened to the money, then? An "illegal gambling den" with no money?"
52 year old Samart Woranathorrocha will no doubt be charged with having too many packs of cards in his possession after the guy in charge of the raid trawls through the books to try to find something - anything - to justify another raid based on another piece of unchecked "information/grudge" (Sorry - conspiracy theory!)

If someone makes claims about your company that makes you lose money or possibly lose all your customers don't you think you should have a right to take them to court?
If Andy Hall had hard evidence then he would of been found not guilty.
”We are shocked by today's verdict. The report was authored and published by Finnwatch; we take full responsibility for it."
And this is the 2nd or 3rd time that the same company has tried the "defamation" route (I believe the previous "not guilty" verdicts are under appeal at the moment) Obviously "try, try, and try again" is their mantra - eventually you'll find a court/judge to see things your way!

"Sorry, I have no sympathy for people who move to Thailand and then want to change it to their liking"
I wasn't referring to the 90 day reporting - I agree that has been around for a long time, and I totally accepted that when I first came here. And I am sick to death of the old "if you don't like it go home" argument! What I (and countless other "moaners" are complaining about) are the apparently senseless changes that have taken place over the last few years, which are required by one Immigration Office, but not another. What is wrong with wanting a bit of uniformity in the system? Why should one Immigration Office demand that a retirement extension will only be given on production of a Medical Certificate showing results of Chest XRays, and blood tests for syphilis, tuberculosis etc, while one of the heads of Immigration says that there is no such requirement in the Regulations? There are many such discrepancies throughout the system, but we are not allowed an opinion on this according to your logic, which is a sort of "put up and shut up" attitude.
And as for "hijacking" a thread about tourism, apparently I am a "long stay tourist" according to a seminar in Chiang Mai :-
"Perhaps you missed the report on the seminar in Chiang Mai where those that were working/retired here were referred to as 'long-stay tourists."
Consequently I feel entitled to post my opinions, whether you like them or not. I am not about to leave "because I don't like it", and as for picking up a protest sign, thank you very much for your advice, but I don't fancy being incarcerated for a bit of "attitude adjustment" thank you very much!
