  1. I have found most of the people selling things around the bars etc to be fairly nice - never really had an issue with them and I rarely buy anything. It is possible the Russian guy was rude to the seller and the guy lost his temper, no excuse for stabbing him regardless.

The Thai smile is pretty deceptive they can lose it pretty quick.

  2. have a look at seat61 website for travel options, visa for Cambodia can be done online and printed off and for Vietnam letter for visa can be done online if you are flying in but may need a proper visa from Embassy if going overland

Cambodia issue visa on arrival, or at least they did for me about fourteen years ago.

Hi, they still do but it is a pain as you need to apply/queue on arrival - the online one is fantastic - you print it (upload a photo) and go straight to immigration on arrival also you only get a small stamp in your passport and do not lose a full page with the sticker.

  3. I must admit the time has went quickly since that day. I was lucky and was skiing in Austria where I saw the nightmare unfold. I had 2 family friends in Phuket who survived thankfully.

A very sad anniversary RIP to all the souls washed away 10 years ago.

  4. Many Thai have asked me what is the correlation between Santa and Jesus Christ. Of course, there isn't any. Christmas is supposed to be the birth of Christ, but it isn't. This makes everything terribly confusing. But not to worry, because Westerners don't really understand what's going on either.

Christmas is just goofing off and nothing more. So go ahead and good off and enjoy it.

We always feel we need a good excuse to feel happy, alive, and kind toward one another. We don't. We can do that anytime, everyday. The good thing about Christmas is that some who are never inspired to be nice Will be nice on Christmas. That's something to look forward to.

Christmas is nonsense. Enjoy your nonsense!

You are wrong, If you check you will find Santa was JCs great Grandson born in Lapland - don't you know anything?

  5. I think it may be worth taking this to the Police if you feel strongly about it, why not lodge a complaint with them on Soi 9 and let them investigate this travesty. Hopefully the staff will be locked up in the monkey house and the tourist numbers in Pattaya will swell again.

  6. The girls in the bar spoke about this a couple of days ago, The guy paid his bill which they said was a total of 135 baht by giving them a 100 note a 50 note and a 20 note - They obviously thought the extra was a tip or why include the 20 baht note in the money he gave them. Next thing he kicks off asking for his 35baht back as they did not bring him change.... two sides to every story

Obviously the OP gave them that amount because the staff said a beer was 55 Bht. x 3 = 165 Baht.

Obviously the OP said here they told him that and Obviously the staff say differently but Obviously there is no need to ask the price of the beer as it is Obviously written on the tab - Obviously like I said there are 2 sides to every story.

  8. I am writing this from the Thai Air silk lounge at gate D in Swampy. The lounge sucks big time, the only food here are crappy dry white bread sandwiches, hot dog style sausages and dried up curry puff things - horrible. The one bar is 200 m away at the bottom of the lounge not near the (so called) food and the staff are miserable <deleted>.

This is my first and last time in this lounge I hope - a 711 serves better food - pathetic.

It doesn't get any better out at the C and E Royal Silk lounges. Not only are they overcrowded and serve the same miserable food, which never changes, but they do not even serve wine at those lounges. Thinking of a gin and tonic? Well, be aware that TG serve the cheapest possible Gilbey's gin, made in the Philippines. The best mix for this stuff is at the bottom of your kitchen drain.

Assuming you were in business class, by now you have experienced the in-flight "cuisine", which is definitely the worst of any Star Alliance airlines. Compared to the oily, tasteless version they serve onboard, I can get far better pad krapow for 30 baht at my local street vendor.

By the way, if you have a Star Alliance Gold card (or above), you can opt for the Singapore Airlines or EVA lounges instead of TG. Both have far better food and beverage offerings. That said, no other lounge is close to the variety and quality of food and drink served by Emirates at BKK.

When in the lounge the other night they started to clear up and before I left most of the sub-711 quality food was gone and there were soft drinks, beer and crisps left. Staff were pretty miserable but it was about 1am.

I was really surprised by the lounge it was so poor and I expected it to be decent. I was flying Business with Qatar who use this lounge but I will go back to Emirates I think no comparison. Pretty sad that a Country who promote themselves as a tourist destination and have pride in their local cuisine has a national carrier who have lounges and staff like this.... on well, lesson learnt.
