  1. The Rotary Charity Sailing Regatta is taking place on the 15th of May in Koh Samui , Thailand.

The event is being held to raise funds for a number of local charitable causes including The Koh Samui Special Needs School , Local Schools IT Project and the Koh Samui Sailing School.

This year we are having a catamaran race off the beach in Chaweng as well as hosting some amazing professional racing yachts. The island's yachting community will also be out in force.

We are hosting an evening event at the OZO Hotel on Chaweng Beach , the new sister hotel of the Amari Palm Reef Hotel. There is a fantastic BBQ and live Jazz being provided alongside a presentation and raffle.

Tickets are available by contacting us here on facebook or via the below emails

So who is Philthebook and where and what is the Koh Samui Sailing School ? more info required.

So no reply or explanation of who this organising group is and what is their link to sailing. At yesterday's gathering at OZO, all of the island's sailors who have been active for the past 15 years here had no idea who they were either. Sailors be careful, VERY careful.

I just copied the post from Facebbok, I believe it was The Rotary Club that organised it, have a look at the Facebook link (I am simply the messenger, thought people would like to know that the event was on)

  3. Raja do a mini bus hotel drop off from around 10am? about 150 baht? You can book it at Donsak

I came in on the 1st ferry of the morning arriving at 6.30am and no mini bus available at that time, managed to get a motorbike taxi to take me to the main road for 50baht and then got a Songthaw to Chaweng for 100 baht

  4. Jungle Club between Lamai and Chaweng, great views over Chaweng, very steep road to get there

Samui Camp Reggae Bar in Lamai (opens at 4pm, closed Saturdays), great views over Lamai but another steep road to get there

Silver Beach/Crystal Bay between Lamai and Chaweng - Best beach on the Island

Take a ride around the very south of the Island, 4170 road, lots of great sea food restaurants on the beach, quite good roads, not many tourists (Ban Kao, Thong Krut area), there are also a few nice Temples and Chedi in this area

  5. ^^^^ Wow! but you are not telling us where you are taking all these photos ... Phil!

Stranger on the shore.... Lamai Beach, the other day!

    Sorry Jim, I normally do.

The 'Leaning Palm Tree' is on the 4170 in Tong Krut where you get the boats to Koh Tan

1st Panorama is Lamai taken from Samui Camp

The fishing boats are Hua Thanon

The small bay is Phang Ka near Elements Hotel

The 'Boat Temple' is Laem Sor, near the Laem Sor Chedi (further along the road)

The sailing boat is the Blue Dragon at Ang Thong Marine Park (and the beach shot)

The Fire Show shots are from Swing Bar in Lamai

  6. The road up to the Lamai Big Buddha Temple is now being concreted.... good views up there! (no signs yet)

    Thanks Phil....

Well there lots of ways of getting up there.... but right now I would only send up your drone!!!

Nice pics Jim, Lamai Big Buddha? Which one is that?

Also do you know how to get up to the standing Buddha?

Thanks Phil.... many roads lead up there.... but right now they would not be easy! Send up your drone!!!

You can get the from several roads from Maenam, Soi 1. 2 3 and 5 . Also from Lamai, Hau Thanon, Lipa Noi and Nathon!!! they all lead to the centre road atop the mountains..

From Maenam it's about 12 kms if I remember... but a slow drive! When dry too, it can be very slippery with the dry sand.....

    She's very big!

    another one up there...

View to Lamai and parts of Chawang Chong Mong ... etc

    Lamai view....

but some of the roads are rough going.... especially now!

If that cement road I posted is finished then it will be easier via Soi One road.... too much chance of getting rained out right now, will check out later....

Member Neilly and I went up the existing one a couple of years ago ! But I have done several times!

There is a restaurant up there too, some of the Safari Trucks stop there for lunch! (if you dare use them!!!!!) wink.png

Thank's Jim, so is the 'Standing Buddha' the same as the 'Lamai Big Buddha' you referred to in your post above? Quote - The road up to the Lamai Big Buddha Temple is now being concreted.... good views up there! (no signs yet)

  7. In the cctv video recording, before the yellow shirt suspect sat down, the white and red shirt guys seem to have been keeping the bench for him.

Will be interesting to talk to these 2 other men.

A Kiwi paramedic was one of the first people on the scene helping. Listening to his interview here on NZ radio he said that when he had finished helping he went back to his motor bike which he had hastily parked just to the side of the scene. He noticed a bag hanging on the wall / fence ? behind his bike at head height. He alerted police at the site who looked at it then called in Army to deal to. Had to go to an appointment so did not hear it all but from what I caught of this guy's interview its sounds like there was another device that was set to go off once emergency services were there but it failed to detonate. Would certainly add to the reasoning that there were more than the one in the yellow Gucci top involved.

This is the interview with the Paramedic who says he pointed out a 2nd bomb in a bag hanging from a tree and the Army diffused it.

    It's at the 6 minute mark - http://www.6pr.com.au/news/bangkok-paramedic-first-on-blast-scene-20150818-gj1h72.html
