Ambitious plan? Hmmm! I can think of a few other adjectives that are more appropriate than ambitious. Wild, loony, insane, laughable etc.

You think? I mean really? Wow! What an epiphany that must have been when they worked it out?

I'm caught in two minds over what is going on here. You would expect the numbers to be coming down as they keep mass testing but they aren't. I suspect that the Myanmar workers have been packed in wherever they are, unable to distance themselves from others, so slowly but surely they are giving it to each other, which if correct means it won't slow down until everyone of them has got it.
Around the country apart from that one area it seems better, though while I saw proactive mass testing in Pattaya a few weeks back, no one seems to know how much is going on nationwide right now.

Extremely grim. You can only hope that he was killed by the impact.

Hang on? Two days ago we were told it was being banned and huge fines for burning fields and now it is a promotional campaign?
I applaud the environmentally friendly suggestions, though I suspect there aren't enough machines in the country to supply all the farmers, so don't expect that smog to go away any time soon.

Just now, Skallywag said:Ahh marriage bliss, maybe he should get busy and find a 3rd Thai wife, or better yet dump his second wife and live as all men should, FREE !!! ????
Having been there twice myself, I assure you I am in no rush to take on number 3, even if it is supposed to be a lucky number.
Totally agree, look after family, never dump on them, especially if you can't even admit to your actions. If you can't acknowledge what you have done, you have to ask if your actions are truly not shameful, why you can't do so?

I think the fairest way to sum that up would be that while he has manners and will graft hard, he was never going to be designing rockets. The mutual recognition of that and a bit of pressure to get a job saw him try to earn his way from just before he was 18.

He should not simply pull the rug out and bury his head in the sand and get others to explain or deal with it, frankly, thats cruel in my book.
This young lad appears to be pulling his weight and deserves better from a parent than to be treated in that way.
Cruel is exactly the word that came to my mind and I know the parties very well.
I once had a situation where I had a new card from the bank and a couple of monthly payments didn't go through, and I assumed this would be the case here, as everyone thought his dad couldn't be so evil and spineless as to do it without warning. We were all wrong.
He is a nice lad, good manners, fluent in Thai and English, helps everyone, works his butt off and gets kicked in it by his own dad. Unbelievable!

Something has come to my attention recently, which I found unpleasant and wanted to see what others think.
Brief background, Farang marries Thai girl, has son, gets divorced and starts a new family with another Thai lady. A very jealous one I might add.
Pays school fees and maintenance and maintains a 10,000 a month allowance after the boy is 18,(50% lower than before) as dad knows he can't earn enough at that age to adequately support himself. Travels from Bangkok once a year for the boys birthday when he is a kid, but as years go by makes excuses more often than not. He steps in when there is a dental or other emergency though.
The lad (now 20) has a girlfriend who lost her job when Covid arrived and his own decent job fell through, but he took whatever he could find working 12 hours a day, 30 days a month to at least bring in 12,000. From grand total 22K house and utilities eat 7K. With the 10K OK, without very tough.
On the 20th of this month the allowance didn't arrive. Calls and emails went unanswered. With the father living in an area that has seen significant Covid concerns for his welfare were high.
After 4 days the boy gets a message from his grandparents in Europe informing him his father has cut him off, without having the decency to warn him in advance, on the grounds he is lazy and ungrateful. Both of those statements are blatantly untrue, of which I will personally attest.
Anyone working 50% of the hours in a month cannot be called lazy. He has very good manners and always thanks those who answer the phone to talk to him, if not in person. The father never calls his son, mostly doesn't answer the phone or reply to missed calls, messages or emails. Has no idea of his sons situation, yet tells his own parents he is lazy to justify cutting him off. The father is by no means poor by the way. Suspicion is 2nd wife has made him do it.
So, the lad is 20 last month. Old enough many would say to be able to fly the nest and make a life, and if dad always stumps up maybe the bird won't try to fly.
My question is this, and its not about should dad keep helping out an adult child, even though in the midst of a pandemic it's harsh to slash someones money, when options to earn more are low. It is if you are going to cut it, should the father inform the son of his intentions in advance, or just not send the allowance 3 days before he knows the lads utilities and rent are due, not answer the phone or reply to emails and messages, and get his own parents to tell their grandson the bad news?
Please tell me what you think of someone who could drop their own son in a financial crisis like that and not have the nerve to tell him, to at least give time to prepare, either before, or even after he had done it?

If she says she hasn't got the money to pay the fines, simply lob her in jail where it will be reduced by 500 Baht a day. By the time she gets out she will have a bit more respect for the rules. Its just damn lucky that she hasn't killed anyone yet.

I suspect the true number of those in dire financial straits, far beyond what "poverty" means is a lot more than 1.5 million.
The government has spent lots of money on military hardware, which would have been much better spent right now on its financially distressed people.

Once again different immigration offices issuing different stories. I swear the word coordination is just not understood here.
For long term expats, who have not traveled anywhere, this makes absolutely no sense.

TOPS discounts only apply to people who have a "ONE" membership card. If you don't have one, you don't get the discounted price. Takes 2 minutes to get one. It collects points for you, but not generously so and no idea how to redeem them. I just got one so I would get the discount or 2 for 1 offers.
I agree that the check out service is poor, but then again at Tesco Lotus round here it is rare to see 2 checkouts actually staffed.
TOPS is also pretty expensive on most of the items I want, so Makro and Foodland get most of my business, even thought the TOPS on Kaonoi is closer. Handy for odds and ends though, if you can deal with the check out issues.

Sad as it is to say, no one should be surprised to hear such news, as we all know that it is absolutely all around us, going on night and day. Every official who can graft some coin is doing so.
The only surprise in the matter is that "some" of those at the trough have been actually been called out. Must have been really going for it, or not passing enough along and upward.
It is so endemic in making the wheels go around that it is difficult to know how to begin to break the cycle.

There is a significant difference between an alchohol ban "from" midnight, to one "after" midnight.
My first thought was that it was a ban, not a timing issue and thought "here we go!, every Governor will follow suit like dominoes."
It appears an emergency stock up is not yet necessary.

That doesn't look good. The flightradar tracker shows it climbing steadily, then banking 90 degrees right and pretty much straight down. Thats not engine failure, its catastrophic loss of flight controls, as in something major fell off or seriously malfunctioned. Not good news for Boeing.
I RIP those on board in advance, because I doubt anyone could survive an impact of that velocity.

I agree with the OP. Chang was my regular beer until they changed it. I could not believe how awful the new weaker beer was and haven't drunk any since. At the time I actually did write to Chang asking them how they could do something so dumb to take a winning formula and change it to garbage, but of course, never received a reply.

18 hours ago, chickenslegs said:I agree with the watershed and I'm pretty sure that the face melting scene (which lasts a few minutes) would give my 9-year-old nightmares.
While I agree with you about a watershed time, you have to pause and reflect that 9 year olds back then didn't seem to be adversely affected, so what is it about now?
Are the kids softer or have we become over protective? Or has one led to the other?
I remember as a young teenager seeing a very scary film at the movies (The Fog circa 1970's) and being a bit spooked cycling home through foggy country lanes after, late at night.
Two red eyes appeared in the fog and for a moment I nearly poo'ed myself. Stopped pedaling and debated a prompt U-turn. Then the reversing lights came on and I realised it was a car, not my nemesis!
Relief? Oh, you bet. Nearly fell off the bike laughing after.
The cartoons the kids watch have shocking levels of violence, so this omission, which I agree with an earlier poster, was one of the best bits in the movie, is disappointing.
I think kids understand movie/reality better than we adults sometimes think.

35 million quality doses for Thai people and foreigners ready to pay, and 2 million Chinese doses for the foreign workers no doubt, where ineffectiveness or possible side effects won't trouble those in charge.

Those machines look like they are well past their sell by date.
Being Thailand you have to wonder if this ancient stuff has been lobbed forward to divert attention away from the newer models undoubtedly out there, while allowing those in power to claim a victory.

Money markets also move slowly much of the time.
A trend begins which accelerates a position up or down.
Just out of the holiday period and with eyes watching how it rolls out, and the markets largely shut until today, unsurprising to see little movement yet.
I am not moving any money here right now.
I hope to see a rate in coming months when I will.

Road Rage video! Vicious fight after car drives over motorcyclist on bridge in Samut Prakan

I'd say the driver of the car deserved all the beating he got after deliberately driving his car on top of the guy on the bike.
