It seems the approach for prisoners is the herd immunity one i.e. letting them all catch it. As a percentage of population these figures are astronomical.
If they had any real plan to contain it in there, the numbers should have been reducing, not going through the roof. Must be very scary times for prisoners.

My family at home don't quite understand when I try to explain the simple reason I haven't been vaccinated yet is because there basically isn't any out there to get vaccinated with. Questions on when it is likely are equally difficult to answer, as the outlook changes with every shift of the wind. And Government comment.
Complacency clearly set in last year when we had no cases, but with a GDP based on tourism, a far more forward thinking policy on vaccine procurement for the future would have been the sign of a competent administration. So it's no surprise really that we have ended up where we are.

Happy days. Just wonder how long after the 7th June any of us will actually get the jab and if we will have any say in which one we get.

A rather nasty post has been removed along with subsequent replies.
11) You will not post slurs, degrading or overly negative comments directed towards Thailand, specific locations, Thai institutions such as the judicial or law enforcement system, Thai culture, Thai people or any other group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Stay on the topic under discussion, namely Israel compensating Thai workers hit by a missile. We do not need a discussion of the history of the region thanks.

Pound against a penny that they are charging though. Overcharging into the bargain most likely too.

To be honest I had expected to see an unruly mob of people gathered though from the photos, it seems at least some distancing was organised. However, had they ensured everyone booked in advance, the numbers present at any one time would have been lower, if appointments were scheduled throughout the day, rather than having everyone turn up at the same time.

Overcrowding in Thai prisons is not only a national disgrace, it flies in the face of the international agreements Thailand has signed regarding prisoner rights. There is a set amount of floor space allocated but many in Thai prisons get a small percentage of that, packed in against each other exactly like sardines. Any time any infection gets into a Thai prison, everyone has it in no time, so it is not surprising that the prison numbers are high. They will get worse and given the malnutrition many suffer from, the death rate could be terrible.

Forget about the Covid for a moment, what he is saying is that it is apparently OK to pack prisoners in to the wagon at levels that would be considered inhumane were it livestock being transported. That kind of sums up how Thais consider their neighbours.

I somehow suspect this figure will not be reached.

Excellent news if it turns out to be correct. Lets hope that the same thing happens across the country, though I am a little skeptical that it will be so easy.

That might be what he is saying today, but we all know that something very different is likely to be uttered within a day or so, and then again two days after that. Consistency in position is not something Thailand seems noted for.

If it is in the prisons, then everyone in there is likely to get it. Even the Khlong Toey slums don't have the overcrowding the prisons have.

In my opinion, it is the Thai defamation laws which should be under the microscope. That telling the truth about a matter can see you imprisoned is just ludicrous.

That is a statement I would like to believe, but am having trouble actually doing so.

I really find stories like this objectionable. Given he was eligible for the visa amnesty it hardly seems like crime of the century, yet here we are with a press conference, listing names of loads of officers who in truth did close to nothing. Being arrested in the airport suggests he was trying to leave, so they got him by luck, not hard work, but they want praises all round anyway. I don't know anywhere else where simply doing your job justifies such publicity.

Definitely not the right direction for the numbers to be headed. I really do not see Covid being resolved here now, for a very long time and really shows how lucky we were to temporarily dodge the bullet last year.

Well thanks to this fella eh, for causing us even more grief from the locals. You really have to be seriously stupid to think you can wander about without a mask in the current environment. Yes, find him, fine him and beat some sense into him at the same time please.

Seems the system allowed anyone to register regardless of origin. Because a few farang slipped through the net we have people up in arms and the Government duly folded. I wonder the furore back home if our governments started denying people their allocated vaccine slot based on race?

I believe that the General is ignoring the fact that allowing people to travel nationwide through Songkran is the most likely (and avoidable) reason why we have such high numbers now, and that he doesn't understand the time frames involved to be making such sweeping statements.
Numbers are bad, agreed. People have stepped up their safety measures noticeably of late which will help. Every time they close somewhere of course, they force more and more people to frequent the diminishing number of options left available for food and necessary groceries, thus increasing the likelihood of further spread.
Not going to even get started on the vaccination issue and its gross mismanagement.

Well, that is my good laugh for the day.
Now how about calculating a bill for Khun Anutin, who has gone bare faced pretty much throughout. (other than days he was promoting mask wearing on camera of course!)

That is going to be very disappointing news for the bars that have been struggling to stay afloat.
I would have thought that the inter provincial travel set to go ahead for Songkran was a far higher risk especially for those provinces listed with very few cases currently.

On this occasion it may or may not be true. It is certainly true that they have done so in the past, with complete disregard for life and limb, so no wonder that questions are being asked. Releasing the CCTV footage is the only way to confirm one way or the other, which I note isn't the case right now.
RIP the young lad. If he HAD been wearing a helmet, one, they wouldn't have been stopped, and two, he would probably still be with us.
