  1. If some guy was hitting on me I would tell him to bugger off also.

Telling someone to 'bugger off' is some what different to being aggressively abusive, don't you think? This guy had probably already had a few beers, most likely been rejected by a few bar girls because of his aggressive natural, and then mouthed off at the wrong time with the wrong person, no sympathy from me, he got all he deserved, som nam naa sucker!

  2. The first car buyers programme was always going to end in disaster. There will be 50,000 - 100,000+ defaulters in this scheme

If only 500 defaulted it is a rousing success not a disaster. Better check your math.

frollywolly was predicting, the article also said there are 12,000 at risk of defaulting as well, I predict this is only the tip of the iceberg, lets speculate that all the rice farmers bought a new truck for their farm under this scheme, the rice farmers did not get paid in the rice scheme and are now at risk of defaulting on their new car scheme, who knows where this could end....

  3. I have always thought including subtle education in the soaps to be the best way to get across social messages. It was tried in the 90s, intentional or not, with a series called Sarawat Yai, about an honest cop but it was taken off the air after only a couple of episodes.

There's so many facetious comments that could be made but I'm interested to know if you can remember if any reason was given as to why the show was dropped so quickly.

Because the show contain 'an honest cop', not really a reality in Thailand, more on the side of fiction ;-)

  4. What really cracks me up is the use of the turn signal to indicate a lane change. That is a good one.

In civilised countries that's what you learn to do. Maybe you missed that.Or do you prefer them to just swerve out into your path as one guy did to me today?

    It's 'manoeuvre, mirror, signal' here.

Flashing headlights means 'get out of my way or we both die, dog'.

I do believe "Spidermike007" Was attempting to be sarcastic?

I do believe "Spidermike007"'s driving ability is as bad as the Thai's....

  5. Reminds my of the case when they found a body 30 years ago in a locked suit case hanging off a pier in Naklua. Police verdict was worse case of suicide that month. Seems like their level of detective work has remained consistent despite logic.

let's not forget the farang about 4 years ago who committed suicide by decapitating himself and then jumping off a bridge.

Have you not seen the 'song & dance' routine chickens make once they 'lose their heads'? lol

Unlimited, but you have to report it if it is over $20k US.  Also there might be reporting requirements by the country your coming from.  The US, for example, is $10k USD.

Thanks , I think if you are leaving a country with Foreign currency you don't have to report it , US is probably different, anti terrorism and such , I'll be coming from Malaysia so I'll check it out, cheers again

    I would think again.......

A woman was recently arrested carrying 30 million baht out!

US was not in the original question.

I was told the limit to take out of Thailand was 50,000 baht, bringing it in I believe is the same.

OP... can you bring in US$, £STLG or Euro, unlimited if declared.

The limit to take Thai baht OUT of Thailand is actually 500,000 (as was stated in that same article about the Laos lady being arrested trying to 'smuggle' out 30,000,000Baht), I also believe it is an unlimited amount to bring Thai Baht into Thailand

A few years ago I flew from Heathrow to Bangkok carrying in 500,000Baht, a money sniffing Police Dog did give me some attention at Heathrow when I was departing, I showed the officer (no, not the dog) what I was carrying & he was perfectly ok with that (I believe you can leave the UK with up to £10,000 before having to declare it, but Foreign currency is unlimited), and I was never questioned about it at Swampy (mind you I didn't tell them either ;-) )

  7. i was there last month and the fee was $35 dollars or just over 1500 thai baht but because it was a holiday i had to pay $36 dollars for the priviledge of being allowed into laos,if they can they will get extra out of you its their nature they are all the same thai or laos its there nature, but if you dont like it then move to malaysia bloody good country

Saturday and Sunday an extra dollar, if you turn up with $35 you cannot pay the extra dollar in baht, cough up 1500bht. Well that's what happened to me once....sad.png

Wrong, I turned up with the $35 as expected from a UK Citizen, it was a weekend & unbeknown to me the cost was $36, he accepted 40Baht for the one missing $

  8.

C'mon, what is 20,000 baht a year nowadays?

    Peanuts smile.png

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

just that it brings the yearly cost to 120,000 baht when a retirement visa costs around 2000 baht. the 20 year is the worst option of all, more expensive than the 5 year card

     I think the batteries in your calculator are running a bit low, 5yr card for THB500,000, V 20yr card for THB2,000,000 equates to exactly the same....(5yr X 4 = 20yr, 500,000 X 4 = 2,000,000)

  9. I come here every other month as a genuine tourist looking only to ease my rheumatism and enjoy time with my girlfriend, in that 30 days I can spend more than Baht 100,000 in hotels and restaurants etc. I have never overstayed,I don't see the point, but with what is happening over the visa situation I am beginning to wonder if it is all going to be worthwhile taking the risk that if I turn up at the airport only to find that my plane is not waiting for me causing me to be an overstayer through no fault of my own I will automatically be fined Baht 20,000 and for the first time in my 68 years spend two years in prison, and then be banned from re entry to this beautiful country.
General,in essence you are doing a good job but you are about to shoot your countries entire tourist industry in the proverbial foot, it is already down by 10.37% and that is since you took over! And then add the tourist loses when the demonstrations were going on,20% or more if I remember correctly.
You are surrounded by countries who are offering a good wholesome tourist welcome without the stupidity about to be perpetrated here,Yes you do need to stop the illegal deliberate overstayers but it would be foolish beyond belief to cover us all with the same paint brush.

Janner, you think too much, once you get to the airport you are on International grounds, if you really think they would fine you 20,000Baht, jail you for 2yrs AND ban you from re-entering, just because your flight home was delayed at it's previous destination, then you really are a very deluded man....do you really think Immigration is that stupid? (no need to answer that, this is Thailand ;-) )

"One nation in particular has all but dumped its under-pensioned retirees on Thailand's already wafer thin social welfare net.  Another nation has seen fit to create mafia state no-go areas in certain parts of Thailand.  Those people need to be gotten rid of, sent back home.  This overstay crackdown is the most effective way of doing it."

I would be very interested to know which 'particular' nations you are TRYING to point your finger at, at a wild guess I will assume the second nation your 'trying' to refer to is Russia, but the first has totally confused me, in any case, why would Thailand's NON-EXSISTANT social welfare net have anything to do with 'under-pensioned retiree's', IMO your an deluded idiot full of BS....

IMO you should push your fat gut away from the bar and sober up.

JFYI I don't happen to have a fat gut, in fact I am in very good condition for my 48yrs, considering I used to work out on a regular basis for my Nightclub Doorperson night job (which means I can still pack a very hard punch when needed to), I don't live in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya & am very seldom in any bar and even rarer still am I ever drunk. So before you go make assumptions about somebody (or different nationalities for that matter) try getting your facts straight first, douchebag....

Please can anyone tell me if the British Embassy need to see the original P60 and/or a lettered headed and stamped letter from my employer showing my income?  Would scanned copies actually suffice? I've just tried phoning, but they are closed on Friday afternoons!  Many thanks in advance.

Nope, it definitely has to be the originals, I'm afraid. That said, they do accept copies of tenancy agreements as supporting evidence for property rental income given that the originals will most likely be held by managing agents back in the UK.

A word of warning about using the P60 as income evidence, though. This will be based on the previous year's rates and will therefore not reflect any increases in the current year. Not likely to be an issue as regards the State Pension, of course, since we are debarred from receiving the annual increases here in Thailand. But could be one with an occupational pension.

Not entirely true, I rent out properties in the UK, I recently applied for this letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok, all I sent them was the Application form which I downloaded from their web site & the last 12 months of my UK Bank statements high lighting income going into said account

    "Dear sir

    Mr Hairy B.o.l.l.o.c.k.s.

This is to confirm that Mr Hairy B.o.l.l.o.c.k.s. , holder of British Passport No 99999999 issued by the Identity and Passport Service on 10 June 2010, is recognised as a British Citizen.

Mr Hairy B.o.l.l.o.c.k.s. has stated that he resides at Blah Blah Blah Thailand.

Mr Hairy B.o.l.l.o.c.k.s. has also stated that he receives monthly income totalling GBP 999,999.00 and has shown us electronic banking statement stating that he receives incomes totalling GBP 999,999.00 per annum.

The British Embassy would be grateful for any assistance you can provide Mr Hairy B.o.l.l.o.c.k.s."

  12. I know that the embassy is not the thai immigration but in my head I see the following situation coming up when asking for this letter:
Oh, you have a salary statement from your employer in Europe? So you are employed in Europe? Why do you want to apply for a one year extension based on marriage that does not allow you to work in Thailand but at the same time your are employed in Europe? Why should your employer in Europe pay you a monthly salary while you are sitting in Thailand doing nothing because you are not allowed to work in Thailand?

Some people complicate things & ask too many questions....Embassy's don't care WHY you want the letter, they are just confirming whatever income you are getting from outside Thailand, YOU are paying them 2,600Baht for this service period....

400 - plus whatever offense you were pulled over for. E.G. illegal U-Turn is 400 also, so together for legit ticket is 800, or in tea money 500.

If you have an accident, could be as much as 10 million baht (damage plus court costs plus court imposed fine - car insurance is void). Likely too that where it is 50:50 (or perhaps even in any event), you would get stuffed with the full blame due to no license, so (to cops) you should not have been there in the first place for it to have happened.

    Not true.
They are only allowed to fine you for one offence at a time.
Until you have paid that ticket, you cannot be fined again.

If you have personal experience of multiple fines at the same time, a scan of the receipt from the police office, posted here, would be most welcome.

Personal experience 'No Wing mirrors 200Baht each, Wrong Province for Red Plate 400Baht = Total 800Baht,....

Not necessarily true. About ten years ago I had a head-on crash that was not my fault. That's when the myth "you're a foreigner so it's your fault" was disproved for me. No-one suggested it was my fault and although I only had a UK licence, and technically I should have had a Thai licence, nothing was made of it and consequently my hospital fees and paying for my car, which was a write-off, were all paid for by my insurance. I think the other driver didn't have insurance, so I'm not sure how the insurance company got their money back, but I didn't really care enough to find out. It's not something I would recommend, but it seems that for some insurance companies, in some circumstances, a driving licence from back home will suffice. These were the days when a UK licence was accepted by the local police, which obviously doesn't apply now. Whether that's also true of the insurance company is open to debate.

I beg to differ, technically you can use your native Full Car/Bike DL for the first 3 month on enter Thailand (although I have been told by a Policeman that it is only for the first month, I know the law so he told me BS). I have been back in the country now for 4 months, I was stopped only yesterday for a quick check of Doc's, I showed him my UK DL and he was happy with that (without checking my Passport details to see how long I had been in Thailand), I then showed him my Full 5yr Thai Bike DL and he was over the moon with that too lol

an ATM bank from the machine slip on the way to the immigration office to confirm the amount in the bank’s statement

Do you mean that you were required to show a paper receipt of an ATM transaction that you had done on the same day of the extension of stay application?

By the way, there has never been a "400,000k" THB requirement. I think most people who have been living here would be shocked if there was as they would not qualify. Only members of the global elite could afford to show a minimum of 400M THB sitting in a Thai bank account.

I do wish people would check their posts BEFORE posting for any typo's they have made, 400MILLION Thai baht = about £7,407,407....

After going to the web site link madpat posted above, I read these rules, please don't shot the messenger ;-)

I thought these Jetski scammer should have insurance for their jetski to avoid scams...then again it goes on and on and onthumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

hmm: Car rents have insurance but still take a B5000 'deposit' to cover unforeseen and often 'unseen' damage so I don't think the scams will stop. This is Thailand. ante up, suckers.sad.png

No deposit on car rentals is to cover the part the insurance doesn't cover - it never covers the first x baht/dollars/pounds/Euros/etc simply to stop frivolous claims. These people are not being scammed for small deposits (lets face it a car costs 2+ million baht and has a 5k deposit - these jet skis cost 200k and change 60k for "malicious damage"). A small deposit of say 2k would probably by fine, paid up front and returned when it comes back unbuttered - any damage = loss of that deposit and end of story for punter (legitimate operator claims on the insurance - or does the repairs himself)

"...when it comes back unbuttered..."     Nothing worse than an unbuttered jetski.

I prefer my jet ski's butter side up.... ;-)
