David,
Apart from eating fat with the chilli you can eat a teaspoon or more of raw sugar after the hot meal. That will have the combined effect of taking the heat out of the mouth and prevent the burning ring. Also bananas - eat, not insert, as the sugar in them will also help.

Never really had to as my expectations were all confirmed after the first few weeks now almost 14 yrs ago.

A coffee shop kiosk type arrangement on the street should be well within 60,000. Ours - about to happen will cost about 30,000baht, including fittings, if you make it out of steel for the frame, and use smart board. We are just making one.

Nonesty is always the best policy. I don't think your marriage is over. I would firstly be clear about WHY the money is being stashed. maybe you need some Thai assistance on this if possible, from a close relative if you can trust one to be honest with you. Secondly I would find a calm moment , perhaps over a meal for two and tell her that for westerners love and trust go together, and you are a bit hurt that she can't trust you to tell you about money issues.
There are so many issues - she may be a secret gambler and have debts. Maybe she does have a geek, that may still be ok for you, if you want to do the same. You also need to talk to her about what lessons you both want to teach your child - honesty being number one. If you still want to be married to her, take your time and approach the subject gently. Discuss the often difficult issue of a budget for both of you.
Since we have been married -10 years ago, my wife has never had to earn money. But she started to resent the idea that she didn't have money that she earnt herself. So now she has a businesss and is earning some income so she is much happier. So Manly go gently before you pull the plug, and remember you BOTH still have a child.

I've found that if you do ask for genuine advice that the replies are on the whole very constructive. It's easy to ignore the trolls and the bull shit, and I enjoy having a daily think and laugh in English from both new and old hands

Definitely for the positive. I've reviewed a few cherished values, particularly related to individualism and privacy. I have become accustomed to living as part of a community again and a seemingly endless extended family.

Actually very little as somehow I knew quite a bit from my wife who I'd met in Timor Leste, and a lifetime before that from contact with 2 thai boys who went to my boarding school in Sydney some 50+ years previously. If I had to pick one thing it would be thais avoidance of regulations and everyday rules, which mostly seems like a good thing.

Wow -nice gesture indeed, wouldn't happen in Oz.

I still think he is doing a good job. Change in Thailand will be painful and slow, but it is happening.

In Pattaya opposite the entrance to soi Bukhao market is Friends supermarket - Chinese owned. They have quite a reasonable range of pipe tobacco and are very helpful. I would ask them how they do it and/or if they can help you get some specific brands.

Impetus Jell - red, black, or blue, 15 baht at our local photocopying shop. They are amazing, and last quite a long time.

I have to go back to Oz for two years to comply with an aged pension regulation. My wife wants to come too, and maybe do some work. She came with me for a month in July this year, which was her third tourist visit over the past ten years. Does anyone know how many tourist visits she can make in one year, and how easy or not it is to get a one year tourist visa? Thanks, Tim

Krisb,
If you have ceiling fans and aircon on together, they seem to cancel each other out. Its still raining regularly at Nakhon Sawan, but definitely a bit cooler than a month ago.

Sigurris, Very sorry to hear your news. As others have said I would go wherever you think you will have the best treatment and quality of life. I had prostate cancer about 10 years ago. After the treatment which has been successful I was still only given a 50/50 chance of it not returning within five years. 10years on I have have been lucky so far, and have chosen to stay in Thailand. But my family are all travellers and its fairly easy for them to come here and vice versa. I would sit down and make a bucket list - then edit the wishful thinking ideas and come up with stuff that you want to do - for yourself, and not things that might please others. Its a tough call, but keep giving and feeling the love from all those people who are nearest and dearest to you. All the best. Tim

50/50 olive oil and dettol is great, but smells. This light seems worth trying
You apply this where an how?
1.Make the mixture as described 50/50 both ingredients. Leave a space in the bottle for a small quantity of lemon grass oil - it is also a deterrent and smells good.
2. Shake very well and spray yourself - about twicw a day. You can also use it in dark places inside the house.

Go to Nakhon Sawan, not far from Chainat. Not so many foreigners, but it does have a small but active nightlife, many good discos and pubs, good music venues and great food.

If I come back in a second life I want to be a defense lawyer for the PTP. They are busier than a one armed brick layer in Baghdad and one can see why when they represent the people they do.
Would that be people trying to get a fair deal from the courts on the basis they are innocent until proven guilty?
Or is that concept out of the window nowadays?
THat is not a universally held legal principle, as in France and French influenced New World countries. I'm not sure about Thailand. Cambodia adopts the French principle.

Smotherb, I detect that you are a person with limited patience. Almost the first lesson about living long term in Thailand is to learn to be patient. It will be to your benefit in so many ways.

RIP to the guy, whatever lies behind it, this is not the way to go.

For those of you too young to remember
RIP Acker
Yes, RIP. ITs interesting as one gets older how many of your childhood legends start to drop off. I still want to get to 100 but a thai monk told me I would only make 99, - bugger.

I remember as a child seeing his heart in a Canberra museum. It was much larger than a normal horses' heart. The first time here hearing my wife describe lightning I didn't think about a connection, but the second wiki explanation I believe to be true. Thanks for the tips David.
How do you deal with the heat? Seriously...
