  1. Hey Boo,

How much was the exam? Did you get my PM? If not, I'll be heading back on the 19th of January. Spending two days in BKK and then heading straight to Phangan.

My friend and I are going to be hanging on Samui after we make a run down to the boarder around the first week of Feb.

  2. Hi Boo,

You think the bus is better than the train? I thought the train might be fun because you can mingle a bit more. The time for the bus is attractive and I'm sure it gets there in plenty of time to catch the 8:00AM boat. I can't wait to come by your place and meet you.

  3. Hey thanks everyone. The 4:00 train is out. There is noway I'd make it.

Do both the Rapid Train and the Express have Sleeping Berths? That's what I'd like.

Also, what's the chance, in your opinions, on getting a that type of ticket a day before, I'm going in Jan.

And last question, if I arrive at 6:50 in Surat Thani, can I make an 8:00 boat?

I've gone to the Rail website and the seat availibilty page is down. I'd like to perchase my ticket from here, but not sure if it can be done.

Thanks so much everyone. I know I could just hop on a plane, but I'd rather give the train a go.

  4. Hey all you Island folk,

I'm looking into the train down to Surat Thani for Jan. How are the 2nd class sleepers? I'm a little confused as to which trains have which accomodations. Also, I need to get on a train after 5:00 PM. I have a 3:00 appt. at Bumrungrad and want to give myself plenty of time to get to the train station.

Also, if I get to Surat Thani around 7:00 is that enough time to get the 8:00 boat to Samui/Phangan?

Can I buy my train ticket from the states? I went to one site that will buy your tickets and send them to you, but the cost is so high it's almost better to fly.

    Thanks all

  5. Sunbelt, I find your comment and the longer message on your news letter to be very selfish and I'm not attacking you, but I happen to look at what's going on in Thailand concerning the summit to be rather sickening.

It's another example of the poor being punished for being poor.

It's sad really, that governments will spend millions of dollars to impress big muti-national companies at expense of the poor.

  6. Hey Catseyeland,

Was it a travel agent in Thongsala? I got a stamp once and am back in the states and will be getting a new passport. I have a lot of friends who were going to a place in Thongsala.

Sorry to hear about your situation. The ordeal in Jail was bad enough, but not to be able to go back to the island must be painful as it sounds like you had a good life there.

  7. Lot's and lots of baby powder.

Hey has anyone been to the Emergency Web? I just went there and it still has the, "too be launched" message.

Hey Boo! I hit your file and your birthday is the day after mine.

Hope all is well are you still in the U.K.?

  8. Hi All,

Anyone have any advice on good places to stay? Just want the basic bungalow with bath, net and fan. Want to go for a days next trip. I can get my tourist visa extended there for 1 month apon return to LOS, right? There meaning airport coming back in.

  9. Thanks for all the replies. I'm not doing anything at the moment and don't think I would be for some years. I'm just trying to get as much information as I can on how one might live in Thailand and make money there legally. And when I say make money, I'm not talking about a lot just enough to live on very modestly.

I would be looking at moving to one of the islands or a coastal area. I have some friends that want to do the same and we are starting to talk about what we might want to try and do.

We would like to start off very small, but it seems that the amount of money you must invest is pretty high. 2 mil. baht is $40.000 U.S. right?

  10. Okay, so that's 2mill. baht per. person as an investment for each farang in a bussiness to get a type B visa/ work permit.

That would allow us to legelly make money over there.

If we invest that in a Thai business does the taxes go up for the Thai people who own it? Meaning by taking on Farang partners is it going to cost more money to run the business

  11. So if I were to obtain a letter from a Thai business owner who runs a bungalow/Bar/Restaurant.

Requesting that I be allowed a type B visa to help run the business, that could get me a type B? Do they have to put up any money for employeeing me or is it possiable to say that I would be working for trade of room and board.

  12. I just saw a post hiring people to work in a restaurant in BKK.

Looked like they were hiring farangs. Can you work legally without being an owner, in a pub? If so, do you just have your boss write a letter and then go apply for your permit?

I know people that work on the QT, but to get a permit and work on the books would save some running to get your tourist visa renewed.

  13. Thanks Boo, your on Samui aren't you? Taking it easy is exactyly what I plan on doing. If you know of a good law firm there that would be helpful down the line perhaps. Like I said, I don't see me doing much before say 5 years from now and I plan on keeping my eyes and ears wide open when I go back. This Forum has really helped me see some light on some things.

    Thanks again
