  1. Boo,

I did as you asked and re-read your post I also said,

Maybe you gals didn't mean to come off as mean or judgemental, but sure came off that way to me.
Try & read my posts properly. Generalisations do happen but I'm not going to sit here & let stupid ones slide.

Right here you are saying someone's observations are Stupid. I enjoy reading peoples posts on here and your posts tend to be more interesting and informative then a lot of folks. I simply commended GirlX for bringing up a topic that I thought was interesting and was hoping that maybe people would be a little nicer with their comments.

  2. Mica,

I agree with Boo and they say one of the best ways to see if your realationship is solid is to travel to another country with your partner.

You will have a wonderful time being in Thailand!! Now, if your not a city person being in BKK may take a while to get used to and you may have a hard time dealing with that.

There is a lot of things you will be able to do as far as different classes you can take, sight seeing and all that kind of stuff while your Bo is at work.

Take this as a wonderful oppertunity for self growth and discovery for both you and your partner. :o

  3. Seonai you seem so quick to attack people for posting things that don't interest you. GirlX said nothing about Thai Men, she was asking about Thai people.

Here's someone trying to talk about something she is curious about and you and Boo both jumped all over her.

Maybe you gals didn't mean to come off as mean or judgemental, but sure came off that way to me.

And of course she is speaking in general, she didn't ask what any of us felt about Mick Jagger, she asked about Thai people from other regions.

Maybe this topic would be better started over in the General Forum, GirlX. More people visit that Forum. You may even get some feed back from some Thai people.

  4. I think this is a great topic GirlX. I have never spent any real time in other parts of the Kingdom so can't contribute much. But surely there are differences like you find in different parts of the U.S.

I know there are big differences from say a Chinese Thai to a person how does not have a strong Chinese influence. I spent a long train ride with 20 something Chinese Thai person and he was compareing his up bringing to his friends.

I also read posts all the time and things in the different books out there on Thai Culture that don't seem to be true of the people I know personnaly.

  5. Need a little help.  I'm booked at the Napasai Resort on Koh Samui for New Year's Eve and for a couple of days after that and just found out about the flooding.    The last thing I need right now is to go somewhere with flood destruction due to the fact that I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana -- Hurricane Katrina territory.  My travel agent is checking for me but I'd like to hear from someone there.  Can anyone help please?

Being from New Orleans you can understand that it's really just hard to know what's going to happen with the weather. Where on the island is the resort you've booked? Also, what kind of plans did you have in mind? If you were hoping to spend long days laying on the beach and swimming everyday in the Gulf you might be better off heading to a different part of the Kingdom.

  6. Hey Boo, from one control freak to another before you ask him to book everything make sure in yourself, that you aren't going to be upset when you see the flights and find out that to save a little $ he decided it was okay to have that long lay over in Hong Kong or your plane leaving at a time that lands you in BKK at 1:30 am. There are pit falls, yeah. If you ask him to do the booking and you say, make sure this, this and this. He's going to think to himself, "why is she asking me to do this."

I think it's very important that your husband knows where all the bills are kept and how to pay them and the lot, but with money matters, I find it better if one person handles it.

As far as the house hold stuff goes the same kind of thing applies, are you going to tell him after he's cleaned the house that he's missed a few spots and should have done it differently?

The person who first said, "If you want something done right, you better do it yourself," was a control freak and I bet a women. :o

  7. ha- did you used to sell yoga bags/mats at indian bar? i bought one of them. :o  never met you though.  had tien is lovely, i go there occasionally. if i didn't live in thong nai pan it would be there or mae haad.

No, that's Nicky and she has been coming to Thong Nai Pan for over 10 years now. She is a really good teacher and should be back around Febuary.

  8. Maybe this is an old topic, but does anyone know where to find all natural soaps in the Kingdom? Samui would be nice, but I'll have time to kill in BKK.

My skin can take the dish washing liquid everyone seems to use. I've tried the one that says it's all natural for baby bottles, but even that soap tends to break my hand out in a rash. I may have to bring stuff from the states, but it would be nice not to have too.

  9. I just PM RainX, but it did get me thinking. Most of the Southern Thais I meet have no desire to move away from Thailand. Most all of the Thais that I meet in the U.S. are from BKK or the North.

It's like compareing someone from NY and Texas. If your from the States you know what I'm talking about. If I had a friend wanting advice on her realationship with a new boyfriend, the advice I would give her would be different to some degree, depending on what part of the country he came from.

We are attracted to who we are attracted to. Emotions have no logic and a hel_l of a lot of people would be out of work if conversations like these weren't normal. :o

  10. yes the cooking thing is a huge bonus! :D

no i haven't met that guy robert but i will watch out for him, thanks! where in KPG will you be living seville?

I have a place in Had Tien. I use to live at Honey on Yai. Now some horrible Hotel is going up there. :o

I got lucky; my friends on Had Tien wanted to know if I wanted to build on top of their restaurant and I took them up on it. I might teach Yoga a couple times a week when I get back at Indian Bar. Sin and Oy really want me too and I miss all my friends there. I'll be back in March and when the supply boat starts running again, getting back and fourth between the two beaches is a breeze.

  11. I agree with Sheryl !!

Okay what do I like about Thai men.

First off, I guess because if all goes well, I'll be living full time on KPN within the next five years, it makes more sense for me to be interested in someone who lives there.

Thai men tend to be physically strong.

Mostly all of them know how to cook!!

See people for who they really are. (That goes for the women as well)

Live day by day and are content with a simple life.

I had a conversation with one of the posters here and it seems to me that one of trends I see with Westerners that come to KPN for the long term is they are looking for a much more simple life compared to where they came from.

So it seems natural that a single westerner would be more interested in a Thai person then another Westerner.

I must say though, all the Austrian men I've met here are very nice indeed.

Girlx, have you met Robert from Austria that has the green wooden boat who comes to Thong Nai Pan Yai? He is there every Feb. or at least came every year when I lived there? He is just lovely, really lovely. If you find yourself single and looking for a good guy, he is one to get to know. :o

  12. Leeluu, Spa Samui should be fine. It's off the ring road and shouldn't be affected by the flooding. They have a very good reputation. All the people that I know that do workshops and the like at The Sanctuary go there for treatments and fasting. The Sanctuary is on KPN.

There is also a place in Pai that is called The Sanctuary, no connection to the one on KPN, that I hear amazing things about. You could think about going to another part of the Kingdom.

  13. I agree with Astral and the like. Big spenders aren't going to venture out to far out of their comfort zone. 90% of Americans don't have passports. If they want the tropics there is Florida and Disney World. The high rollers are going to keep going to Vegas.

There may be an increase in tourists over all in Thailand, but where I live there seems to be a dramatic drop in tourist.

  14. It is a step in the right direction and cheers again to the King!!! He is such a good human being and I'm sure if he had more power Thailand would be well on it's way to being a more earthfriendly sustanable country.

There are so many plants that can be used to create bio-diesel, corn and hemp just to name two. Then of course there is the production of plastic type materials made from plants as well. Completely bio-degradable food containers etc.

Cheers to the King for at least trying to steer the country in a positive direction!!

  15. It says the boat was air tight and sea worthy, which to me implies a touring Kayak like Gumball describes. I've never owned a boat, but have paddeld a lot.

Maybe there will be some kind of follow up, but I agree a wave flipping the boat should not be that much of a problem. Unless the person hit his head, but even if he did a life vest would have at least had him stay on top of the water.

It's sad, but some people just don't understand how dangerous the sea can be if your not careful.

  16. QUOTE(girlx @ 2005-12-07 08:56:50)

i refer to thai boys as boys because in comparison to men in my country they are definitely more boy-like. they are skinny and small, they need to be taken care of like boys too.

Well I refer to men as boys for no reason at all. I'm with Boo and SBK. Thai guys tend to be shorter then American guys, but that's about it. Thai men are a lot stronger then the average American guy for sure. I can think of a 1/2 dozen guys on Thong Nai Pan, off the top of my head, that I wouldn't consider skinny and even the skinny ones are very strong.

You sound pretty bitter GirlX, those fellas on Thong Nai Pan can be a rowdy bunch, but there are a few of them that are sweet and work really hard. My guess is that your on Noi.

  17. Strange you would say that because whenever I see farang couples out or western tourists, I cant help thinking how big and old the girls look. Most of the farang women who have kept their shape tend to be the middle-age ones, and they look great for it.

I agree with you 100%!! I event manage private parties in the U.S. and when ever I do a a high school reunion or something that is age specific, I'm always blown away at how old everyone looks and that they are the same age as me. I'm 41 BTW. They also seem to be old in their whole attitudes.

I worked in the music industry for years and my friends that are my age tend to be from those circles, so I have always had a different life style then the average person my age.

It's sad, but I'm stronger and in better shape then a lot of girls I see that are 15 years younger then me.

  18. And yes, I do find Thai Men more physically attractive. They tend to be in better shape then the western men that I see on the island. Most Western fellas my age tend to let themselves go to pot by the time they hit 30. I more then often look at the average Western guy and can't believe that he is as old as me or younger.

  19. For sure there are women that come to LOS to party and get laid. That is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a realationship with a Thai Man.

Seeing as I'm moving to Thailand for good in about 5 years or so and have found that over the last 4 years my eye has been drawn to Thai men.

SBK makes a very good point about her in laws and her husband. My experience over the last four years is that the locals on KPN are nothing like the Thais that are down from Issan and other parts of the Kingdom. The women tend to be the ones in charge and the conversation will be short, but most of the Thai people I know from KPN, will tell you straight away what's on their mind.

I hear tourist complain that some people are rude there, but I think they get used to having their butts kissed in other parts of the Kingdom and then come down to KPN and don't get the same kind of butt kissing.

If Western men come here to get laid, and Western women are doing the same, wouldn’t it be better for Western men and Western women to stick together back home?  At least it would save the airfare costs, and who likes long distance relationship?  Or do Western men/women who come to Thailand to look for Thai girls/boys prefer to have Thai partners because they find Thai people more physically attractive?

    Sincerely curious.

  20. They are easy to get out of if you know what your doing. I've yet to find a place that rents, "touring kayaks" on Samui, but havn't looked in a year or so. My guess would be that he owned it or borrowed it from someone. If he got flipped in Shallow water he may have hit his head. Very sad, but it also sounds like he didn't have a life jacket on.

an especially sea-worthy and water-tight craft

This worried me a bit. Don't some of those Kayaks have the fittings that literally hold you into the boat, and thats why they teach you how to roll in a Kayak if you capsize?

Are they easy to get out of if you don't know how to roll?
