  1. I extended my current 45 days (1 December 2022 to 14 January 2023) yesterday at Chanthaburi City Immigration.

The 30 days starts from that expiry date of 14 January 2023 (not yesterday's date) and now expires 13 February 2023.

As an aside, I read about queues at other offices. I arrived just after 9am - three counter staff available, just one customer ahead of me. Handed over my form, passport, 1900b, 2 baht for a photocopy of the page showing my current 14 January stamp, I was out in less than 15 minutes. Magic!

Stylish old building, grounds are being improved, appear to be removing much of the concrete to replace with grass/gardens.

It would be a different story if the bike had hit the dog, they would be queing up to claim ownership, and compensation.

    Learning fast from the west.

In her case the hospital reported the bite/bike accident to the police who followed up, but took the 'non-owners' word that it was just a dog they fed for years that lived on their property.

I asked in a good humoured way if the  policeman could just shoot it; response he agreed it would be better for local people if it 'went away'

    It did, unofficially.

Actually it says the SWAT guys and many other colleagues in tight brown uniforms went to the suspect's house and waited 3 hours before it became apparent that he wasn't home. Then they issued the arrest warrant.

It also says that road rage is suspected as the cause, and that the previous week the suspect had argued with a foreigner (doesn't make clear if the same person as the victim) in the housing development and had threatened that person with a gun.

    Apologies my error.

Re para 2 - the victim was reported as having been in UK 24 December to 4 January, So timeframe could be wrong on prior argument? Anyhow, progress being made.

'the victim had been dead for at least 10 days' and no-one had missed him?

There are more news sources than a brief cut and paste from Pattaya News.

Thairath provided more details: Thanasorn Prasad, 22, had driven from Phichit province to visit family in Chonburi province on 6 December 2022.

He was reported as missing to police on 8 December 2022.

A diversion - this one can be 'from California to Prasae, Rayong'

Just out of Chanthaburi province, 10km over the border with Rayong, is HTMS Prasae (formerly US Navy USS Gallup PF-47, Soviet Navy EK-22), at Paknam Prasae

Get there from Sukhumvit 3, 9km east of Klaeng then a further 10km to Paknam Prasae on Highway 3162

USS Gallup a Tacoma-class frigate, was built in California and launched 17 September 1943

Saw duty with US Navy in the Pacific until 26 August 1945

Transferred to Soviet Navy as EK-22 under a lend-lease agreement

Returned to US Navy on 14 November 1949 at Yokohama, Japan

Recommissioned 18 October 1950 for duty in the Korean conflict

Decommissioned and transferred to the Royal Thai Navy 19 October 1951 as HTMS Prasae

Decommissioned and struck from the Royal Thai Navy register 22 June 2000

Preserved as a memorial at Sattahip Naval Base then towed to Prasae 23 December 2003 as The HTMS Prasae

At one time I understood this was an option for the Minstrel/Phosamton, but it's too far gone for that now.

I had not realised that the thread is nearly 10 years old

Yes, and the ship is still here in 2022!

A pity the earlier images linked to Photobucket are no longer available.

Here's one from ten years ago - 2012

And the state of the interior, January 2013

At that time there were a few people sandblasting and painting the exterior, but no attention made to the inside structure

  8. A little history from 1953

The Royal Thai Navy was invited by the British government to attend a naval ceremony at Spithead in England on the occasion of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

HTMS Phosamton departed Thailand on 4 April 1953, participated in the ceremony on 15 June 1953, and returned to Thailand on 31 October 1953.

They will not learn, downright refuse to. Most of them think they know it all already. ????‍♂️

    'They' and 'them'

Don't know that this driver impatience is limited to Thailand only.

Though the overall driving/motorcycle standards here are often dreadful in terms of risk taking.

No rail lines in our area of SE Thailand - if there were I'm sure there'd be riders/drivers desperate to 'beat the train'.

For example: USA 2021: 9251 train/vehicle incidents; 901 fatalities. More than two a day

    'They' never learn!

  10. 1 congrats on the cycling adventure and best wishes for the rest of your time here; if you ever have any spare time sure there'd be a few (including me) interested in your cycling experiences

2 Suggestion as above, Facebook marketplace, this is something a local/maybe a hotel member could assist with if you offer a commission, easier I think to get to the 'local' market and sell for cash rather than the hassles of sending it over distance in Thailand

    Good luck

  11. ^ their office is 8-10km out of the city from the regular government/ provincial agencies they deal with, part of that on open highway so it's ideal use for an e vehicle in terms of economy, and parking - at present they take a big Isuzu pickup.

I'll update when they've had it a few months, the cost-conscious accountant will be monitoring its progress.
