The story behind the video
New Zealand: Mako shark jumps onto Coromandel charter boat
7 November 2022
A group of people fishing on a Coromandel charter got more than they bargained for when a large Mako shark jumped in their boat giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience as well as an almighty fright.
The Churchys Charters NZ skipper estimated the Mako was about 150kg and as long as eight to nine feet in length.
After crash landing on the boat, the Mako was thrashing around trying to escape for a maximum of “two-minutes tops”.
The shark managed to wriggle free and they were counting their blessings he didn’t land on the back of the boat where all the customers were.

OmSin bank gives them out on kids' birthdays.
Daughter #2 is an absolute Scrooge and has over 83,000 in her bank account now, plus whatever there is in her neatly organised row of piggy banks - one for each denomination coin, one for notes.
For years we've given her whatever coin change we've had at day's end, sure mounts up, when she has 1000 it gets banked.
Note: mother an accountant, is saving hereditary?

This thread. Welcome to the dementia ward.
The lack of comprehension is astounding - even the ability to read beyond one previous post would be too much to ask.
For the record (again) here is your biker, anti-muslim terrorist. Nothing to do with Australia. Or Trump/America.

i wonder what happened to all the people sent to hell before the dogma changed.
Same deal applies as in June this year when 3,071 prisoners locked up for cannabis-related drug crimes were released from prisons all over Thailand.
And no compensation payable for the years in hell.

So he is/was an international arms dealer.
I don't think Phuket's Kathu Region 8 quite qualifies as international?
A small-time hobby arms dealer . . .
targeting customers who bought firearms and ammunition in the Provincial Police Region 8 area.

As mentioned about 40 posts ago . . . appears to be involved (allegedly) in online firearms sales
A New Zealand expat in Thailand has reportedly been arrested and accused of taking part in a gun-trading business. An arsenal of guns, grenades and firearm components were allegedly seized at a Phuket property and Gareth A. Davies was arrested.
Thailand Posts said the stash included seven long-barreled firearms, with AK and M16 models, 19 short-barreled firearms, 11 explosives, and “a large number” of ammunition of various sizes, in addition to weapons modification equipment. The Thai media outlet said custom-made gun components were also seized, as were suppressors (commonly known as silencers).
From Thailand Postsen news
Provincial Police Region 8 forces raided the residence of a former engineer and found a small armoury - pistols, rifles, explosives, suspected of being traded. The Kathu Police Station Superintendent led the investigation targeting customers who bought firearms and ammunition in the Provincial Police Region 8 area. From the investigation, they were able to gather evidence for permission from the court to issue a search warrant. It is believed that the foreigner may be involved in the sale of firearms using online media.
it was found that the house was being used as a place for modification and production of firearms as well as equipment for testing firearm sound suppressors.
No one pointing, but a wild guess the man with the blanket over his knees could be Mr Davies -

That's quite a collection. Dealing.
From the link, he's been here legally 23 years.
And:
"Mr. Davies was disabled and unable to walk since five years ago after prior work-related injuries led to his disability."
And, from Postsen News
Pol Lt. Gen. Surapong Thanomjit, Commander-in-Chief of Provincial Police District 8, further said that From the investigation, it is believed that the foreigner may be involved in the sale of firearms using online media.

As above.
A friend had to attend an A&E department with ashes from his father's ashes scattering in his eyes. Other family members copped a fine coating of dust. It happens.

Is that why the catholics prefer to rent very expensive graves and huge tombs whenever possible? and despise/condemn the act of cremation?
A few generations back , yes. 60 years ago.
In 1963 the Catholic Church changed its policy and lifted the ban on cremation. Among the reasons were sanitation risks, overcrowded cemeteries and financial considerations (i.e., the expense of traditional burials). At the same time, though, the church has continued to express a strong preference for the burial or entombment of the deceased, preferably in a Catholic cemetery.

Those that were younger than that will have replaced them, though.
Sure? Where are the numbers.
I'd have expected the new expat numbers to have decreased hugely since February 2020 - those two years+ I'd be surprised if previous levels were somehow maintained given the various total travel bans due to Covid19.
A very small statistical sample - seven of the nine local expats in our town departed early-mid 2020 to their home countries - given their ages I'd guess they're all either deceased or in rest homes, waiting; none have returned; the eighth had a job transfer.
I'd have noticed a sudden influx of new faces. Even one would stand out.
For retired people (I'm not) the costs of health insurance, risks of healthcare here may have deterred some from retiring here?
Lots of questions, but I'd estimate a lower number now than 2019.

Natural attrition?
Given the average age of posters here - 70+ ? - likelihood some have passed away, apart from the obvious age-related reason we've had two years of Covid impact.
Also aware of long-term expats who returned to their home countries at the beginning of Covid and did not return.

650 cc is hardly what I would call a big bike.
Thai media tend to use 'big bike' to differentiate from the majority scooter population.
A 650 is 'big' in comparison.
I gradually stepped down from 1000 to 900 to 600cc 4cyl, quite big/fast enough, and more than fast enough for built-up city streets.

If you refer to the original to thread on these arrests which included a link to the Thai police site:
These girls were procured online by the farangs.
They were NOT in a bar.
The bar owners ran an online email service procuring children aged from 12 years old and delivered them to the farang's hotel room.
Seems evident this is trafficking and paedophilia, despite what all the excuse-makers here state.
12 years old.

31 minutes ago, OneMoreFarang said:I think officially the rules are that nobody below the age of 20 is allowed in bars.
Do the police check the age of people in bars and enforce these rules?
Because if they would do that then it would be impossible that a customer picks up an underaged girl in a bar.
Obviously some girls look young. But with others it is not obvious. If a girl works in a bar (and the customer has to pay bar fine) then IMHO the bar and bar owner and bar manager are mostly responsible for this.
From the original thread on this topic the girls as young as 12 years old were not present in the bar.
Arrangements were made with the Cobra bar owners online and the girl/s taken to the farang's hotel room.

See the picture in the first post, shows 'Mr Thacker' previously identified on this forum as Tacker - perhaps he's the legal owner of the bar but not facing charges?
This is the bar that was allegedly arranging / booking the children online and delivering them to the hotels, so the underage stuff wasn't occurring on bar premises.
Suggest the 'purchasers' knew exactly what they wanted.

New Zealand expat arrested in Phuket with 26 guns and 11 grenades

As reported earlier, he's a mechanical engineer and it was stated he was manufacturing suppressors / silencers and modifying firearms.
He may then be included in the 209 illegal workshops in the news yesterday.
Note the Veerayuth reference below is Wirayut in other Thai news sites. I wasn't aware BB guns can be modified like this.
Regarding the firearms-related cases, the police chief singled out the case of “Veerayuth” (surname withheld), owner of the Charoen Airsoft 4289, who allegedly sold BB guns as well as modified BB guns, which can be used to fire real bullets, online.
He said that police have raided 209 workshops, allegedly involved in the modification of BB guns, and arrested 54 suspects, seized 110 modified BB guns, 11 explosive items and a large haul of ammunition.
