Certainly agree with you, its tough to match the original, but I thought Top Gun Maverick did it and also the John Wick series are also very good?

I'll wait for the torrent, especially since it's 3 hrs long, someone posted.  Must see for the wife, keeps asking when.

When these movies are made for the full theatre experience, some despair at 'waiting for the torrent' for tv viewing.

Sorry, no sympathy.  She had no business driving a motorcycle.  Likely she had no motorcycle license or training.  I've said it before, tourists should not be allowed to rent motorcycles.  At the very least, rentals should be limited to those who can produce a valid motorcycle license from their home country, as well as insurance.

No doubt you've 'said it before'

Bust as others have also said before - as does the article,  she was not driving the motorcycle.

    She was pillion.

  4. Bikes. Is it luck, maintenance?

I bought a Giant ATX Pro XL frame here (Chanthaburi) 2012 and had it built with components of my choice, 2.1" road tyres, and recorded 38,000km on it by end 2019, nothing dramatic other than regular maintenance + tyres, chains, etc.

I wore it out; gave the frame/wheels away to a local who did a rebuild; bought a Trek and it's been similarly reliable - Vittoria Evolution 29" tyres have been brilliant for all-conditions riding.

Brought a Specialized triathlon bike back on one of my trips to NZ but prefer the upright riding in local traffic/roads, barely used except for group rides.

    They say THB328 and THB354 that's Incorrect.

Down here in the 7/11 shops it's THB 200  a day for long Hours that's THB 5000 for a 25 day Month.

Eldest daughter worked at a 7/11 for the last three years of her university studies, part-time, and full-time during her uni vacation.

Finished with them in May this year, rate was 380 baht per shift at that time, with some seniority responsibility, also there was overtime available at times. She enjoyed it - good owners, several other uni students on staff, useful work experience apart from the money.

Same store has recently been advertising full-time vacancies starting a 10,500 per month, suggests they have increased the daily rate.

  6. My response to this is to remove the holidays as well.

Same would apply in many western countries where there are compulsory holidays for Christian festivals - Easter, Christmas etc where the greater percentage of population is not Christian.

Make allowance for this in annual leave entitlements, staff can take leave if they wish, in line with their own religious or non-religious beliefs rather than impose it on the general population.

But having said that, a poll where 219 under 25s were 'anti' is hardly a national referendum, is it?

  7. Noen Wong fortress (1834) complete with moat (grassed now), walls and cannon, about 7km from central Chanthaburi city - between the river port of Tha Chalaep and the town of Tha Mai

Inside the Noen Wong grounds is the National Maritime Museum - but it's closed at present (December 2022) for major renovation, extension and re-roofing.

Care to share the location of this place. Wifey has seen Tulips in Europe, Singapore so it would be awesome for her to seen them in her home country.

    Thx!

I'll get the details when she's home from work tonight

Meantime, a couple of the pics she sent me:

  9. Last week daughter #1 went up to Rayong to see an indoor tulip growing facility.

Temperature maintained at a chilly 14.8C - not exactly life-threatening but she was prepared with additional clothing, however as she says, believes it's the first time in her life she's experienced sub-20C temperatures apart from opening the refrigerator.

Back to normal - forecast 34C at 3pm today, 23C overnight.

  10. King Taksin Day

The Cabinet has also declared 28 December the eastern region’s 2021 regional holiday, celebrating King Taksin Day. This holiday will be observed in 8 eastern provinces, namely Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, and Sa Kaeo.

    .

    .

My understanding is this is only for the usual suspects - government, banks, schools.

Helpfully the immigration website states: "Closed on holidays"

  11. Related, in a way, I read this story recently, incredible courage and perseverance from one of the bomber's victims - what a man!

Bali bombing victim given 5% survival chance now a star on the golf course

    Nov 30 2022

It is hard not to notice Ben Tullipan on a golf course.

The 46-year-old Aussie walks confidently up to the tee and swings like a seasoned pro. Two artificial legs are the only clue he’s not your average club hacker.

    spacer.png

Tullipan sustained horrendous injuries in 2002 in what is now known as the Bali bombings – a terrorist attack on a resort in the Indonesian tourist hotspot that killed 202 people.

Golf has been crucial to his recovery and on Monday and Tuesday he played in the NZ Disability Golf Open at Manor Park Golf Sanctuary in Lower Hutt. [Wellington, New Zealand]

“I was 5 metres away from a car bomb when it went off,” he recalls.

Unable to use his legs, he tried to drag himself out but suffered further injuries from broken bottles and fire.

Doctors told Tullipan he was unlikely to survive but if he did, he would never walk.

As well as both legs, he lost hearing on one side and most of his stomach muscles. More than 60% of his shattered body suffered full thickness burns.

Given a 5% chance of survival he wanted to prove the doctors wrong and show he could lead a normal life.

Once he learned to walk, the former boxer looked for a new sport and when his mates joked he would fall over on his two artificial legs if he tried golf, he rose to the challenge.

Golf had given him many opportunities to meet people and tell his inspiring story, he said.

Now living in Queensland, Tullipan works for Empower Golf running clinics encouraging those with disabilities to take up golf.

A lot of people are in such a rush they can't even spend one night outside of Thailand.

Why are some people so desperate to rush back to Thailand?

I'm with you on that one; I'm not retired - just what do retired people 'do' all day that it's so desperate to come back the same day?

It's not as if the required dates aren't known well in advance, we take them as holidays - returned yesterday from KL having spent a week traveling, headed back to Malacca as hadn't been there since 2016; same ever since I've been here, trips within Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, never less than a week.
