What are the best ways to meet other expats?
gomangosteen replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in General Topics
I had an approx 15 minutes conversation with an expat in January and was concerned I might have a bad year as my 2023 total was five, all either at the beach or shops. But here we are in August and my tally remains at one. I don't need to go out of my way to avoid them, it's rare to meet one in Chanthaburi other than a walking-past nod of acknowledgement. -

NETA V - Have any members got one?
gomangosteen replied to grs90's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
We don't own one, but company my wife works for bought one in December 2022 and liked it so much they bought another one in June 2023 - more practical and far cheaper than the previous two Isuzu d-Max for their usage. Civil Engineering company the cars are used for engineers checking in on jobs from Chanthaburi to Rayong and south to Trat around 200km a day, 6-7 days per week, plus her round-town use when available. Staff cars - used and abused like many company vehicles but they haven't self-destructed just yet. Can't comment on the km per charge as they're left on charge each night. -
My 90-day this week took a whole two minutes - slow as the admin person assisting the IO hadn't put staples in the stapler. No bonus for him!

I was there Tuesday for my 90-day, according to Google Maps arrived 8.13am, #1 in a queue of four for opening at 8.30am, departed 8.32am. Waiting to open had time to read the series of info prints around the balcony detailing the building's heritage status. Briefly: Opened 1911 as the Chanthaburi Land Office. In 1977 declared a registered historic building. 2016 acquired by Chanthaburi Immigration who completed renovations within the provisions of the heritage status in coordination with the Fine Arts Department.

Had her 11th anniversary with company last month, career with a civil engineering business, good employer, work environment and colleagues. No thoughts of stopping work. Daughter #2 started at uni this year studying civil engineering, and longer term there's possibility of internship and employment there.

Visa cambodia for border run Ban Laem
gomangosteen replied to Jo77's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Pong Nam Ron is not a border crossing. It's a town on highway 317 and an amphur in Chanthaburi. It has two border crossings with Cambodia, 33km to Ban Laem and 32km to Ban Pakkard, 23km apart. Minivans are available for both locations from the Chanthaburi bus station. Ban Laem is a bigger crossing and more often used by visa run companies; I know someone who used Ban Pakkard without problem last week. -

She has an Ed.D from the University of Delaware gained in 2007 at age 55, a doctorate in education, not a Ph.D. It was obtained via a 120 page dissertation with the title: “Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students’ Needs.”

Expect at some stage they'll sell their story to the media. Maybe the NZ magazine Women's Day would be interested in the Day brothers version. Maybe they changed their plea to guilty allowing for an out of court settlement, compensation to the police officer involved? A week short of four months in custody, they may have lost a few kgs on the change of diet. Only themselves to blame if they hadn't fled the initial police checkpoint, paid the the no licence fine (presuming that's why they didn't stop?) none of this would have happened.

Anyone heading for a border run to Ban Laem, there's a border trade fair there from 10-14 July. Chanthaburi Border Trade Fair 2024 July 10-14, 2024 Thai-Cambodian Border Trade Market (Ban Laem Market) Business Matching on Wednesday 10 July 2024 at 09.00-12.00 hrs. at Good View Conference Room, Soi Dao Goodview Resort 150 booths to display and sell products. Agricultural products, processed agricultural products, industrial products and other products at the courtyard of the Thai-Cambodian Border Trade and Tourism Association, Chanthaburi Province. Mini-concerts from artists such as Belle Warisara/Am Chutima/Parkmalody Giveaways and prize draws. Organized by Chanthaburi Provincial Office of Commerce I was at the main Chanthaburi bus station two weeks ago noted there's now a marked counter there for minivan service to Ban Laem (via Pong Nam Ron); used to be over the river near Robinsons, then at the second bus station one block from the main one. Long time ago I took it once, entertaining in its way with multiple stops picking up people with their sales items to take to the market, returning with people loaded with things they'd bought, including one person with two chickens in a box. All part of the fun.

Just my own experience, and helpful staff/service at TA. I brought back a triathlon bike from storage in NZ, Thai Airways Auckland - Bangkok. Only had a small carry-on bag they counted the bike as check-in luggage well under the 32kg allowance, cost me zero extra. Had contacted them beforehand and was emailed a pdf (in English) detailing preferred packing methods, what to remove etc. Bike arrived on normal luggage carousel at Suvarnabhumi, undamaged. One question before exit 'was it new or used?' and away I went.

Saw this Lambretta G350 in Chanthaburi on Friday (that's a 300 behind it) then on Saturday stopped in Klaeng (Rayong) seven Lambrettas on a day ride stopped at Banta Cafe. At Banta Cafe (in Shell Station at Klaeng) theres a few old vehicles, two US yellow schoolbuses converted to diners, and this lengthened Vespa on display, just how many could fit on that?
