  1. Woah there, what is all this about!!?

you know anyone that eats Big Mucks must be either uneducated or stupid

like anyone that smokes - that will stir them up!! :D:D

as for where to meet nice (which is what the guy means, I presume) educated girls, anywhere that they are is a reasonable answer. :D

and they are everywhere...but a lot of them are educated enough not to want to talk to wicked farang :o

  2. I thought I'd seen most of the snakes around here, but the one pictured is a new one on me. The maid came rushing in this morning yelling "snake snake" as they do here. Where? I asked, outside she replied. That's fine by me I said, as long as it's not inside.

It was no monster, and measured around 60 cm (2 foot) in length. and as thick as a finger. Brownish colour overall, with two vivid yellow lines running the length of it's body, and darker paterns in between, with a yellowish pink underbelly.

Any ID from you snake experts out there?

I know that one, it answers to "wiggly"

  3. Great barber, soi 8, right hand side, across from Corleone's, been going there for ages (just got back from there actually)  150 baht and a 20 baht tip.  :o

Erm Davey, 35-40 quid for a haircut??? :D

Yeah, back in the UK. Not at a barber's but at a hairdressers, 35/40 quid is about the norm

you must be a very hairy man!!

  4. I first married in our village, a typical sort of affair, with just relatives and village elders etc. e had a small party thre, with food and drink, but not fancy.

We married again in London, but once again, only a few people, relatives and friends, champagne all afternoon with some Thai food

Now we want to have a proper party, with all our old friends who never came to the other ones. Any ideas, maybe in Chiang Mai, a good place.

and how to get good food, maybe get some small food vendors to set up there, or what would be nicest?? :o:D

  5. I am interested to know how you met your Thai wife (or husband)

The most common way (from a poll I held in London) was in a bar. The second was agency, the third internet.

I met my husband on the internet, just started emailing each other and etc. When he came to Bkk we arranged to meet up and....the rest is history.

    how about you!! :o

i MET MY WIFE ON WWW.BANGKOKCHAT.ORG we feel in love on line then met in bkk then got married in phichit and we have a son now nice story for us :D

Bangkokchat sounds good, I never been there

nice to fall in love on-line!! good for you

although we met online too, we did not really "fancy" each other at that point, just like chatty friends, but when we met first time, that was very exciting.

It was love at first whatever!!

  6. Sorry for being old fashioned but, shouldn't you wear what you feel comfortable in?

Ok sometimes I wear a vest or what ever in and around the local market. But I always wear shorts and flip flops. To bloody hot for shoes and socks!! Although I must admit I never wear a vest to a shopping mall, usually a T-shirt polo shirt or normal shirt. The only time I wear jeans is if I am going out clubbing. I think you are steriotyping your own countrymen. There are the odd few people that look like full on tourists but the comment "up to them" springs to mind. If you dont feel comfortable wearing this atire then surley its up to you. But why stick your nose up in the air at people who dont care how you or anyone else looks at them. Should they care? What makes you so special that you decide what is good enough to wear in certain places.

    Bang......

    Thats not old-fashioned, but new-ugly.

old fashioned was always coreectly dressed, the new look is "don't care about you, but I can't be bothered".

I hate to see shorts in towns, so uncool. My husband hated it too, luckily!!

  7. like Catholics can't have sex on Fridays, or is that out of date now?

I seem to remember we weren't supposed to eat meat on Fridays - so we had fish. Catholics weren't supposed to use condoms or go on "the pill" if I remember correctly.

But it was OK if they confessed afterwards :D

######, I was hoping someone would say "you mean can't eat fish, not have sex"

then I could say "have you had the fish at xxx restaurant, better than sex"

    oh well

    :o:D:D

  8. I know a chap who met his missus in the UK, she was a student. ( but she didn't seem to do much studying)

Well he says to me the same thing as saraburioz posted, about ex hookers etc.  Says that he & his wife just laugh when they see farang men with Isarn girls, laughing at how the girl is probably ripping him off.

He called his marriage a genuine marriage.

She's shagging someone behind his back.    :o

    doh!

well, it does sound like a genuine marriage then!!

  9. I would just like to say that this is a great resource for people like myself from outside Thailand who want to know more, and would like to thank all who take the time to post here

I suspect I am a typical example of people who come to Thailand, early 40s male from UK, no real ties, worked hard for 25 years averagely well off in UK terms, all down to house price increase, very well off in Thai terms, think lets have a holiday get to Thailand and just went WOW, Paradise found! hopefully with the ability to look at it from a sensible viewpoint, seems to me that some parts of Thailand are only just on this side of the sanity line, and you realy do need to stay on the right side of it. have been twice in last year, am going again for a month in November, and touring around a bit

So after a lot of thought regarding spending more time in LOS. I realy did consider giving it all up in UK and doing the teaching but not for to long, investing any real money in the place is a definite no-no, bit of a no brainer that one.

have come to the conclusion that for me the best way to do it is to have a lifestyle in UK (I do like UK and am proud to be british, but in middle of winter it can get wearisome) that allows me to work 6-8 months a year and 'Winter' in LOS, and hopefully get best of all worlds

be nice to know what you think of my thoughts, perhaps if your in a similar position to me it has given you ideas, which is what this site to me is all about

    Ken

why oh why is Thailand called LOS by farang, it is boring, please stop.

but to reply, if you can do what you say (6-8 months work etc) then you are very lucky. Quite a few guys seem to be able to do that, and have a lot of fun and a good life too.

you can rent a place for the whole year, maybe at a cost of say, 60 squids (no pound key) a month, so can keep your stuff there and live easily each time.

  10. Hey H90,Thailand is the only country I know where you need at least a bachelors degree to work at Mc Donalds.

    eh? Really? :D

I knew a guy that worked for one while he was studying for his bach degree, but that cant be true can it?

Is that the same "bachelor degree" that you get free with a happy meal..? :o

    totster :D

anyway, you wouldn't meet a normal college educated girl in MuckDonalds, would you??

  11. I'm trying to do some lab work with Thai coins, and I need to know the composition of the various coins in terms of % of metal- % of nickel, % of copper, % of zinc, etc.  Anybody have any idea where I can get this information?

why, do want to make your own??

better to print some TB100,000 notes

  12. I'm afraid this antiquated belief that good girls dont go out at night or to bars is a myth as well.  It is 2005 now, good girls go out too you know. :D

    yes, that's true!!

my friends and I (good eh!) often go out together to bars, and we are all college educated....except one anyway. she is world educated.

but we only talk to ugly guys, as a rule

    :o:D:D
