If you have retired at 42 and find the $U.S.8 per day for an Elite Card to expensive maybe you retired to early.

I have had documents signed/witnessed at the Australian Embassy in Vientiane. The issue will be the if the appropriate staff are available when you arrive. I would contact them prior and see if you can make an appointment. Prices will be the same as Bangkok.

Have you looked at The British International School of Northern Thailand ? It is in Lampang so is
close to the boys mother.
-
No it is still not legal however things aren't as strict as they once were.
I have not heard of any recent issues in Vientiane where someone has been charged with breaking this law.
It is a different story out in the countryside though.
As a landowner your girlfriend is likely to know her local NiyBarn (Village Chief) and should make inquiries before you arrive.

Try going to the Lao immigration office....in the side street next to ANZ Bank and get 30 day extension. It used to cost $60 (instead of the normal $30). Give it a try. I used to use it occasionally while living in Vientiane

The burgers are quite good and the 'Aussie Pie' was good too.The young Thai girl provided good service however it took over 30 minutes to receive our meal and we were the only 2 customers. We ordered 2 glasses of decent quality wine (about 200 Baht) which were unfortunately served in cheap tumblers.
Just prior to opening the Australian owner was seen/heard abusing a Thai guy who was attempting to erect an awning outside the restaurant. His verbal, abusive rant was poor form. Not cool.

Australia only allows 50 cigarettes

1. The current walk-in rate is about 1500 Baht
2.It about doubles in the high season.
3. Usually quickly (4 hours max) unless you play Saturday/Sunday.
Ask the starter which 9 is quickest before you hit off.

As Bazza40 bought his house in Melbourne for $12,000 and the Median house price is currently $712,000 I reckon he did O.K. I wonder if growth has been as strong in Chiang Mai ?

I had a water pipe break soon after I moved in to a rental property. The owner immediately had it repaired at his cost and paid the previous months water bill.

A Japanese guy who drinks at a bar in Muang Soi 1 smokes a pipe. Haven't seen any others though

I have done the VOA to Laos about 40-50 times. The forms take me about 2 minutes to fill in. The Immigration staff aren't particular about the details. Have the following ready- $ U.S.35,Passport photo, your passport and Thai visa Info.,your proposed address in Luang Prabang.......Easy !!!
-
You can watch it at the UN Irish Bar tonight from 8.30 (Upstairs)
-
The longest (only) Tourist Visa to Laos is 30 days
-
Not possible- Visa on arrival is your only option.

Not all courses require long term membership.Mae Jo has 1 year memberships as does Highlands (i think).

Le Meridian for me. I take the drinks package. Great value
-
What sort of car is it ? Would you consider renting it privately (long term) ?

Cuisine de Garden is outstanding.
Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor-Hang Dong Restaurants.
I would expect to pay 3-4 times the price if dining in the West.

Thanks for confirming my previous comments about a suitable music venue for a 16 year old girl

'Absurd Comment'......
You obviously don't have a 16 year old daughter !!
I quite like Papa Rock and the food is pretty good.
I recently took some people aged in there 20s and they couldn't wait to leave.
Musicians aged 50+ singing songs from the 70's doesn't usually appeal to 16 year old girls !!!!

Nice course but could be effected by recent heavy rains. Is prone to getting soggy under foot. Expect a very quiet time if you plan to stay the night
