Because there is no consistency between Immigration Offices with regard to filing a TM30, the only safe course of action is to check with your local Immigration Office. You may or may not be required to file a TM30 within 24 hours of arriving, and you may or may not be fined if you don't.

And how often has an office changed its procedures or demands after you labelled it "rogue"? Given the endless complaints about moving goalposts and the inconsistencies between Immigration Office and the Officers in them, it seems that every Immigration Office in Thailand could be described as "rogue". The label is irrelevant anyway: we have no choice but to accept whatever situation occurs.

The only reliable advice re the submission of a TM30 is to check with your local Immigration Office. Quoting the Immigration Act is not helpful if the local office ignores it, and saying that a local office is "rogue" does not help either. Several recent posts have advised that Jomtien requires a TM30 when returning from a trip away: this week I was informed that it was not necessary... Like so many other aspects of Immigration procedures in Thailand there is no consistency. Smile and accept it: TiT.

Yes, soi 5 is supposed to be a one-way street heading due to the beach. But without constant police presence many vehicles are ignoring the one-way rule - - which, given the high volume of people currently attending the Immigration Office, makes a visit there even more difficult.

An agent will do the 90-day report for you. The fee differs from agent to agent. Over the years I have paid 200 baht, 500 baht, and nothing (!).

Once your license has expired, it has expired -- and you are supposed to renew it immediately. If you are stopped by the police with an expired license, you will be fined. The one-year "grace period" refers to the time period during which you are allowed to renew your license without going through the entire testing rigamarole from the beginning. I just checked with my agent. I have 800 000 in a fixed deposit account and for a renewed extension of stay Jomtien this year requires: 1. Updated bank book. 2. Letter from bank stating the amount in the account. 3. Bank statement showing monthly balance for the past 12 months. 4. Visit to Immigration to have photo taken.

You may report online -- however, the Immigration Office may require you to attend in person for the first report. 3. You may report by mail. 4. You may use an agent to report (typically the fee of varies between zero and 500 baht).

I second this comment. A friend of mine recently applied for a Non-O at the Jomtien Office and was presented with a list of requirements as long as his arm. He sought the help of an agent...

Recent evidence: A farang on NON-OA wished to switch to Non-O. He drove himself to the border and approached an agent who was helping a group. He paid the agent 2000 baht and was out and in without any problems.

With a non-O visa you don't need health insurance. With a non-O-A visa you need health insurance. The non-O-A visa is acquired outside Thailand, the non-O inside the country.

I am getting a new passport before the annual renewal of permission to stay. Do I need a letter from my Embassy concerning the new passport? (I will be getting a renewal of the permission to stay, not transferring it.)

Why is it "an irregular manner"? I have been getting an extension of stay based on retirement for 15 years and I do everything legally. However, I choose not to go to Immigration, but I pay someone else (i.e. an agent) to do it for me. There is nothing illegal or "irregular" about that. According to my agent thousands of other retirees make the same choice.
