For this you have to go to a  dental department within a hospital. And it will be costly. Think 20k on up depending on rhe hospital and what needs to be done.

Yes thanks @Sheryl - I'm aware that it's likely mostly hospitals that can do this. I have addressed a dozen or so of the ones nearby, but I was looking for specific recommendations and / or experiences.

So far the only one that responded is Bumrungrad, but I fear their quote will be way out of my price range.

  2. We've been looking and asking around to find a place that can do it reliably and also understands that this isn't the same as local anesthesia (which every self-proclaimed dentist can do).

Can you recommend a place from experience? Anywhere in central Thailand is fine.

Any indication or knowledge around predicted costs would be helpful too!

    Cheers

  3. Does anyone use them? Or something similar?

I am struggling to transfer money to my interactive brokers account.

I even tried DeeMoney and their response was "we can't".

I'm not even going to try to go into a Thai bank branch to do it - that's beyond hopeless.

So what realistic options are there?

What else are you using to buy stock (not Thai stock) ? I can't for the life of me get anything decent working. it shouldn't be so damn hard to just buy a couple Tesla or other stocks?

    No description available.

That's in the home office now, with the aircon running since 8AM (4 hours).

Oh yeah and a fan is running too. So the air is well mixed and there's no "hot pocket" where the thermometer happened to be sitting.

so to clarify - that I consider too hot for comfort in a room I sit 14h per day in. The bedroom is a similar discomfort.

Thanks for the information on the corpo behind it. We'll definitely be pinging them.

What settings do you use on remote control?  Full auto at 20c but how is air flow directed?  Are the vanes blowing straight out?  Is the horizontal control swinging?  The temp is above 20c in the room?   How cold do you want your room?

There is nothing wrong with inverter AC units - most in use today are indeed inverter.  But have no knowledge of that brand here in Thailand home split systems.  Do you have a model number people could check?

Swing is disabled - we can't have air blowing on our faces when we sleep or we'll get sick. It just blows straight out along the ceiling. Worked fine with the previous air con (and also in our previous homes).

    Model is 42TEVGB013-703.

  6. So in other words, we're screwed. Great. I'm now sitting here, pouring sweat. It's a little warm outside. The aircon is set to Full-Auto and 20 degrees (at the recommendation of the manufacturer's technician). And it's hot as hell in here.

    To clarify:

    - We move into a new home, there were large aircons installed.

    - They were cool, even at the lowest setting

    - But they leaked water and were spewing ice. They were about 15 years old

    - We had them cleaned. We had them serviced.

    - They were cool but kept flooding our home and bed. It's awesome if you're woken up at 3AM by loud noise above your head, followed by a shower of ice. Really. Awesome.

    - So the owner replaced the aircons with new brand new ones.

    - But, the new ones are Inverters. Apparently more expensive than regular ones. Also, apparently they just don't work right.

    - From day 1 we said they are not cool. Even though the BTU are the same, they do not cool the room. It's not comfortable.

    - We had technicians here

    - We had a different team of technicians here

    - We had a team from the aircon manufacturer here

    - And again, the aircons are brand new.

They all said the same thing: the aircons are cooling. They are normal. They stand in the area where the cold air comes out of the aircon and they say "look it's cool". The run the aircon at max power (loud as hell), shut all doors for 30 minutes and say "look, the room is cool".  I wanna kick them in the nuts and say "look, it hurts".

But everywhere else in the room it's not bloody cool. Plus, they were always here on cold days. It's the cold season here now.

Come March, April, May, we'll be in serious trouble.

So, what the hell can I do? Replace the aircons again, at my own cost? As a gift to the landlord? /s

I understand the landlord, they spent 50'000 to replace the aircons. It's not their fault the aircons suck <deleted>. But whose fault is it?

I dont know what the hell to do anymore.

  7. We just got our first water bill (lived in a village with its own well for years prior) and it shows a usage of 51'000 liters in the meter period of 30 days.

Is that normal? The number seems excessively high to me, but it's very hard to judge just how much water a shower takes, etc. And well, yeah, I admittedly have no experience with it whatsoever.

    Thus, can you share yours?

We're a 3-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms, and a small family of 3 (wife, me, daughter).

Do I need to  go look for a leak?

When was the last time you had your Aircons serviced and recharged @Na Fan.  Every 6 months you should be having them cleaned and then the units freon checked.  My large Aircon in the center of the family room ceiling needed to have the freon recharged.  Now it gets quite chilly.

Bought a portable for the GF's mother and it needs to have water added to it.  She uses it at night along with a fan in her room at the house in Myanmar and she says it keeps it at 25 Celsius.  Comfortable for her, but to me that's not efficient.

I'm aware. Thanks. They're brand new. Inverters. Same size as we previously had (non-Inverters). And they just don't cool.

We had 3 different techies here, including one from the manufacturer. They all came during cold weather and said "it's all nice and cool, what's the problem?". I give up.

So, question remains - what is good? Brand? Model? Is what I would love to hear about.

  9. These types of services often go through several providers. I had a similar experience tracking down failed pages from Pagerduty (a service in the US) to my cell here in Thailand. They'd get stuck repeatedly. They would often arrive days late, sometimes not at all.

Turns out the problem was with one of the intermediaries.

Try to track down who owns the number that sends you those texts (if you've ever received one successfully in the past). It's likely not the bank itself, but they use a third party provider, which may be a local Aussie one, and which may in turn use an international provider. Start with the source number (if you can't see it and your phone only shows a NAME / ALIAS of some sort, start with that, and otherwise ask True what the real source number is.

can you post a pic of the ceilings, there are a few reasons for this happening, could be the new paint isnt bonding to the old paint(painted over grime, water damage, smoke etc)or has been watered down too much and is breaking down or it is garbage paint, a pic will help so I can see exactly what it is doing on the ceiling. Make sure you notify the owner  as well as they may well try to blame you

See above - any ideas what they did to cause this?

House has been empty for a while and we're the first tenants. We just moved in this month, so they can hardly blame us for anything like that.

  11. We moved into a new property. Rental. The whole house was painted anew before we moved in.

Now we have these small white particles covering out entire house.

I sit at my desk working, I end up with them all over my hair and clothes.

You can imagine what happens if we are eating off of a plate......

What is going on here? Did they mess up the paint job this badly? How is that even possible?

  12. It's a lot of mixed feelings for me.

Some dishes I absolutely love - Larb Pet, Tom Saab, Tam Tua. Some insects are great (Jingrid for example) as well.

But, in most cases, they will give me horrible diarrhea, because it's either not fresh, has been left laying in the sun or who knows where, or is just filthy because hygiene is a strange concept to Thais. When the wife cooks it, it's fine though.

And a lot of it is just disguised junk - it contains more sugar than your Big Mac would and is otherwise also rather unhealthy and did I mention it's very unhygienic  (meat sourced from markets where it's left rotting in the sun covered in flies, which hop from the nearby dog feces to the meat and back again). Prime example is the noodle soups "Guoy Tiaw" - they are drowing that <deleted> in sugar to extreme levels. Simple bowl of noodles with two tablespoons full of refined sugar. Daily. Or several times per day. Not exactly healthy.

So would I choose an Isaan feast over lobster or an Argentinian Black Angus tenderloin? Yeah, sometimes. If I know and trust the source.

Do I want to eat it every single meal for every single day? Absolutely, positively not.

  13. I've seen a bunch of posts but many years old by now, so I thought I'd see what's out there now.

Ideally I'd like to use our village's pool and pay a coach for their time 1:1 with our 3 yr old.

I saw Manta but, frankly, them charging 750 Baht for 30 minutes group lessons seems excessive.

    Any good contacts?

I, Village Headman, confirm that Na Fan's wife is living at address xyz.

    Best regards

    Village Headman

Why doesn't your wife just ask the hospital or the village headman on how to proceed?

The whole thing is strange. This is Pattaya - so there really isn't a "village" headman. There is a guy that apparnetly holds that title, lives nowhere near us and we have no idea who he is nor does he know who we are.

The Banglamung hospital told her she needs to provide this to get vaccinated, because she isn't in a local Tabien Baan. Even though she lived her for 4 years.

Plus, the hospital just now told us that they won't accept her regardless, contrary to what they told her yesterday with this letter.

    Sigh. Thailand.
