Can't say these are great places by any means, usually all delivery food is subpar as it isn't fresh like when you eat at a restaurant, I've just been eating meals at "the coffee club" and "eat am are" recently, fairly healthy. Bonchon seems to have the better fried chicken vs other chains.
Right, eating food fresh out of the pan is obviously better than delivery - but that's beside the point of this post ????

It feels almost overwhelming if you look at the hundreds and hundreds of restaurants on Grab, Foodpanda, LineMAN and whatever else there is. It's almost too much.
We've fallen flat so many times trying "something new" and ended up with completely inedible garbage being delivered that I thought I'd share the good ones we have found, and perhaps others can do the same.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with any of the places mentioned - I am simply a customer and appreciate what they're doing.
Note: this isn't a debate about whether you prefer grab over foodpanda. It's about restaurants.
- Casa Pascal Delivery (self-hosted)
For me, that's the best there is here in Pattaya. Their menu is great, has lots of variety and the quality is always top notch. It's not the cheapest - but you literally get what you pay for: excellent quality.
As an example, the Roast Chicken (always freshly made to order - never once did we get a dry, stale, old chicken that was heated up in the microwave, like virtually every other place has done that we have ever ordered a roast chicken from) is the best I've had in many years. Their salads are also great, and the lobsters are sublime (order them cold, shell-off with their homemade Thai seafood dip sauce - perfection!).
- Folks & Flour (LineMAN)
The best bread bakery in town. We've tried many. Here we've never gotten a stale bread. Always crispy, often still warm. Packaged properly in a paper bag like it should be. Most places that sell bread in plastic wraps just have no idea what they're doing - that's a sure-fire way to turn your crispy bread into a lumpy chewy mess. Their walnut and lowgi loafs are amazing. Whole family loves it.
- La Bocca (Grab)
Great Italian all around (except the steaks, those aren't great). But their pasta, salads and pizzas are really great.
- Shakariki (Grab)
THE sushi place in Pattaya. The only place I know of here, that sells real tuna cuts (Otoro, Chutoro). Their Japanese dishes are also really good (try the Japanese Pork Stew! or the Miso Ramen). But the sushi is top notch. Always fresh, never smelly.
- Everest Indian Restaurant (Grab)
Great indian food. Lots of variety, amazing lamb dishes. But spicy - be careful if you can't handle that - but they let you chose with every dish how spicy you want it.
Which ones do you love and want us to try?

My passport is due to expire in October and my visa end of March.
Now I was told that they will only give me a visa until October - not for a full year like normal if I renew with a passport that is about to expire later this year.
I have previously transferred a visa from one passport to another - why would this now suddenly be a problem?
Very confused here.

Hi
Recommend you to try Nang Ram beach just south of Sattahip Port.
They charge 20thb entry for farang. Water is ususally super clear and safe.
Also a lot of fish + corals to enjoy if you like to snorkel.
Monitor weather forecasts and pick your days based on wind speed and direction.
We've driven all around Sattahip and there was Navy personnel everywhere and they said that everything was locked down. The tiny open beach we did find had very dirty water (ugly thick foam all around). I'll look for Nang Ram beach, thank you!

May be a bit far for a quick family swim, but I thought it was very child friendly.
That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Don't mind at all if it's a bit out of the way.

The beaches around Pattaya, Jomtien, Na Jomtien, Bang Saray, if they happen to not be polluted that day, always have very rough sea. Way too rough for our 3 yr old to have a comfy little splash.
Is there any place around here that has decent beach waters?
It's been a while since I've been over to Ko Si Chang, and right now I think Koh Larn should also not be flooded by Chinese?Any recommendations for clean and calm waters?

Of course the costs will be considerably below the prices in Bangkok.
I can hand on heart state that I don't think I could have picked a better person. First class in every respect.
If you were thinking about full mouth dentures anchored by titanium implants; that could get expensive; though still relatively inexpensive.
If I can afford it, yes.
What's your definition of "expensive; though relatively inexpensive" ?

https://dentalhospitalthailand.com/about-dental-hospital-bangkok/sleep-dentistry/
was the first thing that popped up on Google.
I had a similar issue. Wanted things tided up, but had horrible experiences with dentists when younger.
Did extensive research and ended up using a hospital in Sri Racha. I think the extra cost was 10k to 15k at the time. They asked me to count to ten and I don't remember anything until after I woke up.
Very happy with the service provider. Though the dental surgeon involved has since moved to private practice.
So you'd need to follow up with the hospital and/or surgeon if you were interested.
I still use the same dental surgeon. In fact I fly to Thailand especially for that purpose. No need for general after the first experience; as of course it's mostly to do with anxiety. Once I realised the pain was actually minimal or non-existent, I just decided to relax and allow them to get on with it.
With the right dental surgeon, everything is relatively painless and comfortable.
In fact she did a filling almost without telling me. I had no idea that it was already done when she finished.
Contrast that with the horrible experience of what seemed like Black & Decker drills being used on your teeth as a child ????
The dentist in my country could not even get the seating position right. Useless.
So glad I walked out and made the decision to have the work done in Thailand. Saved a chunk of cash that way too.
Thank you - that's very helpful. Particularly the rough idea of the additional cost of anesthesia.
Do you recall the name of the hospital in Sri Racha?

I wasn't sure what you meant by central Thailand.
If Bangkok, you might try Mission, St Louis, the various Phyathais (1,2 or 3) or Bangkok Christian. All likely to cost less rhan Bunrungrad.
Ypur problem will be getting information without first going there and being seen by a dentist.
Do you really require full anesthesia or would IV sedation suffice?
Yeah Bangkok, Chonburi.
Thanks those are new to me.
I have no experience with IV sedation, but from what I've read your sensors are still active and your whitness what's happening. Not an option.
I'm trying to avoid wasting time to drive around for hours for an appointment only for them to tell me "we can't help you" or quoting a price that's 10x what I can afford to pay.
I think any professional hospital would be able to make a quote, given an xray and the simple instructions to remove all existing bridges and remaining teeth and make dentures under full anesthesia?

OP:
Bangkok Hospital (BH) in Chiang Mai provides treatment under general anaesthetic or IV sedation. I guess the same options might be available at whichever BH is nearest to you.
Good luck and please post here if you find the treatment you're after.
Yes BH are in the list of those I contacted, thanks.

You might find it easier to find a dentist that will give a sedative and local instead of general anaesthetic. Have you thought of that as an alternative?
Obviously. Perhaps a million times in the nightmares I have from the trauma I went through as a child due to some sick f*** that called himself a dentist.
Not happening.

For this you have to go to a dental department within a hospital. And it will be costly. Think 20k on up depending on rhe hospital and what needs to be done.
Yes thanks @Sheryl - I'm aware that it's likely mostly hospitals that can do this. I have addressed a dozen or so of the ones nearby, but I was looking for specific recommendations and / or experiences.
So far the only one that responded is Bumrungrad, but I fear their quote will be way out of my price range.
-
We've been looking and asking around to find a place that can do it reliably and also understands that this isn't the same as local anesthesia (which every self-proclaimed dentist can do).
Can you recommend a place from experience? Anywhere in central Thailand is fine.
Any indication or knowledge around predicted costs would be helpful too!
Cheers

Then you will also have a problem withdrawing money from Interactive Brokers. But if you are a US resident account holder, you can apply for their debit Mastercard.
I'm not.
-
I only have Thai bank accounts at this point. "Back home" has started charging outrageous fees for international addresses.
-
Does anyone use them? Or something similar?
I am struggling to transfer money to my interactive brokers account.
I even tried DeeMoney and their response was "we can't".
I'm not even going to try to go into a Thai bank branch to do it - that's beyond hopeless.
So what realistic options are there?
What else are you using to buy stock (not Thai stock) ? I can't for the life of me get anything decent working. it shouldn't be so damn hard to just buy a couple Tesla or other stocks?

so to clarify - that I consider too hot for comfort in a room I sit 14h per day in. The bedroom is a similar discomfort.
Thanks for the information on the corpo behind it. We'll definitely be pinging them.

That's in the home office now, with the aircon running since 8AM (4 hours).
Oh yeah and a fan is running too. So the air is well mixed and there's no "hot pocket" where the thermometer happened to be sitting.

What settings do you use on remote control? Full auto at 20c but how is air flow directed? Are the vanes blowing straight out? Is the horizontal control swinging? The temp is above 20c in the room? How cold do you want your room?
There is nothing wrong with inverter AC units - most in use today are indeed inverter. But have no knowledge of that brand here in Thailand home split systems. Do you have a model number people could check?
Swing is disabled - we can't have air blowing on our faces when we sleep or we'll get sick. It just blows straight out along the ceiling. Worked fine with the previous air con (and also in our previous homes).
Model is 42TEVGB013-703.
-
So in other words, we're screwed. Great. I'm now sitting here, pouring sweat. It's a little warm outside. The aircon is set to Full-Auto and 20 degrees (at the recommendation of the manufacturer's technician). And it's hot as hell in here.
To clarify:
- We move into a new home, there were large aircons installed.
- They were cool, even at the lowest setting
- But they leaked water and were spewing ice. They were about 15 years old
- We had them cleaned. We had them serviced.
- They were cool but kept flooding our home and bed. It's awesome if you're woken up at 3AM by loud noise above your head, followed by a shower of ice. Really. Awesome.
- So the owner replaced the aircons with new brand new ones.
- But, the new ones are Inverters. Apparently more expensive than regular ones. Also, apparently they just don't work right.
- From day 1 we said they are not cool. Even though the BTU are the same, they do not cool the room. It's not comfortable.
- We had technicians here
- We had a different team of technicians here
- We had a team from the aircon manufacturer here
- And again, the aircons are brand new.
They all said the same thing: the aircons are cooling. They are normal. They stand in the area where the cold air comes out of the aircon and they say "look it's cool". The run the aircon at max power (loud as hell), shut all doors for 30 minutes and say "look, the room is cool". I wanna kick them in the nuts and say "look, it hurts".
But everywhere else in the room it's not bloody cool. Plus, they were always here on cold days. It's the cold season here now.
Come March, April, May, we'll be in serious trouble.
So, what the hell can I do? Replace the aircons again, at my own cost? As a gift to the landlord? /s
I understand the landlord, they spent 50'000 to replace the aircons. It's not their fault the aircons suck <deleted>. But whose fault is it?
I dont know what the hell to do anymore.
-
We just got our first water bill (lived in a village with its own well for years prior) and it shows a usage of 51'000 liters in the meter period of 30 days.
Is that normal? The number seems excessively high to me, but it's very hard to judge just how much water a shower takes, etc. And well, yeah, I admittedly have no experience with it whatsoever.
Thus, can you share yours?
We're a 3-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms, and a small family of 3 (wife, me, daughter).
Do I need to go look for a leak?

When was the last time you had your Aircons serviced and recharged @Na Fan. Every 6 months you should be having them cleaned and then the units freon checked. My large Aircon in the center of the family room ceiling needed to have the freon recharged. Now it gets quite chilly.
Bought a portable for the GF's mother and it needs to have water added to it. She uses it at night along with a fan in her room at the house in Myanmar and she says it keeps it at 25 Celsius. Comfortable for her, but to me that's not efficient.
I'm aware. Thanks. They're brand new. Inverters. Same size as we previously had (non-Inverters). And they just don't cool.
We had 3 different techies here, including one from the manufacturer. They all came during cold weather and said "it's all nice and cool, what's the problem?". I give up.
So, question remains - what is good? Brand? Model? Is what I would love to hear about.
-
The air cons at our house aren't cutting it. It's hot and steamy all the time - and we're not even in the hot season yet!!
Any of you own any portable ones? Are they good? Recommendations?

These types of services often go through several providers. I had a similar experience tracking down failed pages from Pagerduty (a service in the US) to my cell here in Thailand. They'd get stuck repeatedly. They would often arrive days late, sometimes not at all.
Turns out the problem was with one of the intermediaries.
Try to track down who owns the number that sends you those texts (if you've ever received one successfully in the past). It's likely not the bank itself, but they use a third party provider, which may be a local Aussie one, and which may in turn use an international provider. Start with the source number (if you can't see it and your phone only shows a NAME / ALIAS of some sort, start with that, and otherwise ask True what the real source number is.

Yes I am surprised nobody gives a damn. Or maybe people always cook at home? We just don't have the time and energy for that.
