  1. My wife and I went into our local Bangkok Bank branch on Friday to collect the form to claim back the tax, and the staff told us that they wouldn't be issuing the forms for 2013 until January 2014.

Has anyone else encountered this, or is it a case of the bank staff not knowing what they're talking about?

By the way, on the same day we had no problem getting the form for an account we had at SCB.

  2. Bought a Honda Jazz year ago May and received our cheque last September earlier then expected.....direct deposit 100,000 baht....thank you very much!

    Are you sure?

I don't think any Jazz qualified for 100,000THB rebate.

Some pick ups did, but no cars.

    You're perhaps a little mistaken.

    I'm being polite.

If he's mistaken then so is the tax office, because we also received a check from govt. for 100,000 Baht after purchasing a Honda Jazz.

  3. Has anyone seen any good rates or promotions recently?

    KTB has 14 months @ 3.30% and 37 months @ 3.7%

37 % for 37 months !!! If i put down a million bt deposit. I get 37,000 bt or 114,083 bt. Thanks in advance.

37,000bht,anually dont know is it paid on maturity if so that will be 114,083bht.wait for it minus 17,112bht tax.which you can claim back.

And the most you can claim back in a calendar year is 20,000 baht, right?

  4. Well as far as khun kittiratt goes he was on cbnc the call a few days ago and a few things he said made my head hurt

He said thailand is not in a recession and the reason for the lower gdp numbers were as follows

thailand had a shortage of gas from Myanmar in april and dont forgot thai people had holiday so that was the reason for the low gdp numbers

When asked about the rice scheme he couldnt really comment

Sent from my GT-I9300T using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I missed the CNBC appearance, but just found it online:

The first thing that I found interesting is that according to the deputy PM, Songkran is a two week holiday.

  5. Let's face facts here, people.

Asia, and particularly Thailand, has always been like this, long before any of us got here, and it will be when we're long gone. For all the comments of disgust and (dis)belief, about ruining Thailand's reputation, and all the other hokum spouted, we're all still there, preferring it to our own homelands, or we visit regularly and in many cases consider it our second home.

It's a sh*thole, and yet not one of us votes with our feet. That says far more about our lack of standards and backbone than it does about Thailand.

A bit heavy on the hyperbole, but there is a lot of truth in what you posted.
