  1. and given recent events in the UK surrounding Philippine nurses, one would expect intense scrutiny by the authorities in the UK to compound the application

Or the odd nurse from the many thousands working in the U.K. To tar many with the same brush?

But i cannot see how she would not withstand any scrutiny.

  2. This is for a female filipino nurse with a Masters Degree in nursing. Worked as a nurse in Philipines, Hong Kong and China. Currently teaching English in Thailand.

She wishes to go to England to be a nurse. What steps does she need to take to do this? (She would prefer not to use one of the agencies here in Thailand if possible - unless that would be her best option).

Secondary. If she does become a nurse in England, is there a route she can take to get residency, pay her taxes and contributions to be able to get a U.K. pension? How long would that be expected to take?

I know I am asking a lot from scratch, but would like to know from the beginning what she needs and needs to know.
    Thanks.

  3. Reading through this sent me to check my messages for my AIS 3G.

    They read:-

The fee for 3G MaoMao399B unlimited 4608MB AWifi 3month will be deducted on 24/05/2015 at 11:50 a.m. Please ensure sufficient balance to continue this package.

MaoMao399 unlimited AIS Wifi has been activated.

Plenty of advanced warning from AIS and also deducted at 11:54 a.m. (I registered at that time a month earlier).

Quick confirmation that my account had duly been topped up AND that my new wifi had been activated.

All credit to AIS for the information via messages displayed on the computer when I connect to charge my unit.

I use the AIS pocket wifi. Stops them being able to deduct any money from my phone as it is a stand alone unit.

  4. I noticed the OP said wifi. Neither Nirun nor 9 Karat have wifi that is any good unless in Nirun you are near one of the wifi shops on the ground floor.

Sophon will rent you internet on short term base. They have a shop in Nirun and speak good English.

Depends on what wifi you want. Simply for e-mails and similar like Thai Visa etc., I'd go for a 3G card in the phone if your phone is capable. True do one for 200Baht a month (when I topped up the g/f's last month).

  5. Plenty of places available in Nirun on Soi Arunotai that start around 3500 to 4000 per month.

Loads of agents on the ground floor shopping complex.

Nice place with pools, bars, gym etc and very quiet at night (which I like).

25 sq mtrs. Small. High electricity and water usually.

Though there is plenty of cheap food to be had right on the doorstep (American fried rice & Chicken fried rice 50B Sit there to eat).. Cheap beer too.

A room in 9 Karat next Soi along to Nirun is even cheaper per month and larger rooms with cheaper elec and water. The pool is great. Food besides the pool starts at 70B. Ask in the office.

Before people say it is a bad place, it is not really any worse than Nirun for example.

One downside is the school can be a bit noisy.

I've stayed in both, 1 year in 9 karat and then a year in Nirun.

9 karat was OK but you're right, it is a bit noisier. The reason I moved out was I got fed up with the interruptions to the electric and water and the lifts often being out of service.

IMO Nirun has a bad rep that is undeserved.

The lifts in Nirun last year were out for months and months. So many moved out.

I've been in 9 Karat less than 6 months but no electric problems at all. Maybe they have improved their efforts.

The beefed up security in Nirun seems a lot better now too. Plus Nirun seem to be making more of an effort to tidy the place up a bit.

Not a lot between them except Nirun has all the various fpood stalls and places for a beer. That can be a plus.

  7. "all papers is ok. i need your old passport copy, visa page and the receipt you paid for the visa"

Is what the lady at immigration said.

Considering the passport was reported stolen and a police report made previously and shown to immigration, her words seem at odds with my understanding of what happens when you present you new passport to them.

As it turns out, the copy she has on her phone of her stamps and of her old passport is not enough.

BUT the director of her last school apparently has a copy and he has now said he will go to immigration with her to try and sort things out.

If your friend is seeking the reinstatement of a visa she will be disappointed as cannot be done.

    As ubonjoe states

"They will only stamp the last entry in the passport.

If she has an extension of stay they will do the most recent extension stamp, do an annotation of the visa used for entry that she has been extending and the entry stamp from it."

Did you actually hear the Immigration Officer state what you are reporting ?

She told me on LINE what the officer said. And as an English teacher, her English is good. As was the English of the immigration officer.

  9. Being my usual helpful self here....

My friend has been to immigration to get her visa stamps transferred into her new passport.

She has the paperwork including Police report of lost PP, Embassy letter, new PP too.

Copies on her phone of her NonB and 90 day stamps, all valid.

Immigration say they want to see receipts of her payment for the visas before they transfer them.

    She has no receipts.

Is this normal - to need to show receipts?

  10. This put a smile on my face when I read it.....

In Isan, villagers said they are they are fed up with the weekly broadcasts.

“The best business would be selling TVs since so many people are breaking theirs when they see Prayuth’s face,” joked Suchart Busrakham, 49, a farmer who borrowed money to buy a truck. He had planned to sell straw mats in surrounding villages, but with the drop in rice prices and consumer spending he’s fallen behind on repayments and now ferries schoolchildren to make ends meet.

  11. @ the OP....

In almost 10 years of being here and living in various areas, I have dated Thai women of various ages from 25 +. Most 35+ years old as young ones can be a bit of fun and that is about it.

All of them have had one main interest in life and that is money. Money rules.

These women have been from a variety of backgrounds.

Y - her family have almost 200 Rai of rice. Not exactly a poor family. A car, a truck, several houses for family.

M - her family are not poor either. She works at Chula Uni in BKK. Her sister has a high profile job there, as does the sister's husband. Family are well housed, they all have cars, good jobs. They also have sugar and rice lands.

T - Chinese / Thai grandparents. Not really wealthy.

N - her family are quite well to do. Own land. All have their own houses. Brother built a new 3 storey house while I was with her. Great family. Very friendly and helpful. Work very hard. Good connections thanks to the brother's business.

Others of various financial persuasions and backgrounds.

All these relationships were working quite well until the demands began. Demands for more and more money. What is wrong with being content with what they were given monetarily. My money is not theirs by some divine right. Why is it deemed I must buy a fancy new car, or a house that I cannot own?

Plenty of these women scam. There is no need for it.

There is more to life than money. What about honesty, a genuine, loving relationship, caring, being able to communicate, showing feelings? Being faithful. Being happy to go to a normal restaurant, having noodles, or a beer or two in an average pub / bar / club? Understanding Thailand did not invent everything from mobile phones to tv's and washing machines. That there is a world outside of their own borders.

I have had more honesty and no demands from my Thai friends. Also from other genuine people. And there are plenty of those. Even the women working the bars who I chat to at times are quite genuine.

These days, I'll stick to not having a relationship with a Thai woman. It is less hassle, thanks.
