As you may realise, I actually was a choir boy......

    OMG Trans......

Where was that? In a place called Bendover or similar?

Hard to imagine you as a sweet little choirboy and I'll say nothing about why you might sing a few octaves higher than some do.

    :sorry:

  2. At the moment I only have 1 definite person on my vote list. The all singing :guitar:, all dancing   , fully revved up :stoner: - Trans.

The others I need to consider about a little more. There are some really good (old) posters that I also like. Straight hitting posters.

I wouldn't know anything about that.

However I can promise the electorate that unlike some people in the world, the Sensational NongKhaiKid and myself, The summit of human thought do not have a track record of popping out of bushes, shouting 'BOO!' and scaring little old ladies...

Why not? Do you not like scaring little old ladies, hearing them squeal and then them falling into a dead faint? Some people are no fun at all

I have to admit I'd rather scare some young ladies out of their panties  but they see me and run away before I get that chance. :shock1:

  5. I have been back in the U.K. since March. There were reasons I had to come back. Many things to sort out and put right. If I'd had a choice, I'd have stayed in Thailand.

I have been enjoying life here in the U.K. in many ways. It feels so much slower, easier and cheaper.

Driving, shopping and other daily things are more pleasurable on the whole.

Dealing with people and making business calls seems less hassle too.

General life is pleasant with less hassle.

I'd spent most of the last 8 or so years in Thailand. I still have friends there. Yet there was an undercurrent in many different ways. That pressure of constantly being hustled and hassled. Yet, with those Thai people I did know and saw on a regular basis, I found them to be friendly and helpful. It is those who just want to use us or try it on that seems to be the norm outside of those Thai people I know. That I do not miss.

Overall, I'd suggest giving it a break from Thailand if you feel under pressure and if you have the means to support yourself back in your home country.

Personally, I'd do so in the late spring / summer months. The temperature adjustment is radical.

Take a break. Don't burn all your Thai bridges because you might like to go back.

Personally, I am seriously considering going back to Thailand for 3 of the winter months to see how it feels.

  6. I prefer wall fans to the smaller table top type.

A good free standing floor fan is better too IMHO than a desktop one.

No screws to undo to take a wall fan down. Simply lift it off the bracket and clean the same as any other fan.

Ceiling fans are good IF they are properly balanced. I have been in several places where these wobble so much I was wary of sleeping beneath one.

  7. Paranoid? No.

I think there are many open minded people who see the violent clips on here and the internet who wonder what is going on. It makes you feel less safe, especially when many of these violent thugs tend not to be jailed or punished sufficiently. That in itself leads to concerns - quite rightly - that you could be one of those on the receiving end (or your family could be) and no-one would step in to help out - especially the police.

In more 'civilised' countries you feel some form of protection from the law, police and also people in general who we believe would not let a woman be attacked by EIGHT men, or a family be hospitalised by another gang of men.

Yet, where I have spent much of my time in recent years, I saw little or no violence. That was in Pattaya - a place where you would be led to believe there is constant violence.

I spent 4 years in Nakhonsawan and I saw more violence there than in any other part of Thailand I have stayed. That violence was always Thai on Thai and nobody ever intervened.

No, violence is not simply a Thai thing, though media would have us beleive differently of late.

Think back to the 60's in the UK. Mods v Rockers. Weekly gang fights. Yet most bystanders were not harmed or involved. So, this is not a modern thing with gangs.

Go to ghettos and inner city areas in the 'civilised' world and you are more likely to see / witness violence.

Look at the USA. Guns, murders, schools under attack. Norway and that horrific attack. There are many more instances.

Yet, most of us do not witness it.

My g/f refuses to go out alone after dark unless she HAS to. She has had several instances where she has been fearful of being attacked / molested. She has been followed about and been approached in a manner that made her seek the company of others to make her feel safer.

My point is - I suppose - that violence CAN happen anywhere. Often it is down to being aware of your surroundings.

  8. It is not open for a crossing to get a new entry.

Ranong is the only crossing to Myanmar that allows a out/in crossing for a new visa exempt entry.

If you had a valid visa for re-entry you could use the crossing in Khanchantaburi.

    Thanks, Ubon.

My friend has a Tourist Visa and is going to visit Khanchantaburi and 3 Pagoda pass shortly before he is due to get his next 30 days.

He can do this while he is there? Does he need any documentation at all?

He can - alternatively - do it at Jomtien of course, but the chance of a short holiday with another friend is too good to pass on if he can get his extention while up at Khanchantaburi.

  9. Find a girl your age and one that has an open mind and some appreciation for the fact that you come from a different culture and that there is such a term called "meeting in the middle". There seems to be this perception that all Thais are dead set in their ways but that's not necessarily true.

A woman my age is likely to be wrinkly with sagging breasts and maybe a few teeth missing. Why on earth would I want one of those? blink.png I might as well be back in my home country, or doing without.

A woman over 35 definitely - for me. Much better biggrin.png

And before you ask, No, I am not perfect, but I'm not considered too bad either laugh.png

  10. There are so many books available to help students study for IELTS. Needing a Band 7, probably needs Academic, not general English.

There are many available. A couple of suggestions:

Ready for IELTS by Macmillan Education, should be able to get it at any good bookstore.

    Focus on IELTS by Pearson

I suggest your friend goes to a good bookstore and peruses the books available.

    Thanks for those 2 titles.

We'll look for those and their availability here.
