  1. Decision time for you. Can you raise your son yourself? Will you live long enough? If you do not live long enough consider what will happen to him. It seems he is the most important factor here. It is not his fault his parents are having difficulties.

Consider the hard cold facts before deciding.

And, YES. women do change when they get back to the village. Some change a little with their dress sense and demeanor, others change totally. IMHO.

  2. I recall, from years ago, being told not to call someone a 'Buffalo (Kwai)' or I could end up in jail. Or to call them or any business by bad names even if they were bad. It took me a while to realise you have to be careful where and when you use derogatory names and insults in Thailand.

We tend to get away with insults back home. Here in Thailand, you have to be very careful. As the OP says, it is easy to end up in jail for voicing opinions that are deemed defamatory.

  3. The problem is the price. Most on my list i saw at open air four day festivals. Simpy Red the ticket was about 50 quid and then there was the train to Montreux, drinkys and the train back.

But then there is the atmosphere of the Montreux Festival that just takes away the money probs!! It was a "if you can't afford it don't go" attitude. I could afford and did go. The vibe and the views are out of this world.

Bruce, on the other hand. I would have sold my mother to see him. It was expensive, around 100 pounds for the ticket. But you get your moneys worth with the hours that he was there and it was only four bus stops away from my place. And the beers were around the same price as if you had gone down the pub. All in all a cheaper night than going to Montreux.

A few years ago, in the Summer, i was sitting at my computer in front of my open window. I could hear Dire Straits music. It worked out Sting was doing a concert in the stadium across town and the way the wind blowed everyone could hear him.

For the French speakers among you - I also heard Jonny Halliday the same way. I closed the window that night!!

The most disappointing concert i went to was, unfortunately, REM. Everybody was expecting to sing along and dance to all of their wonderful songs. All they did was play their new album and as the encore gave us a wee bit of the old REM.

I would have liked to have seen INXS.

    Great stuff, Patsycat.

I'd ask, how many concerts a year would you go to at £100 a time + travel?

At Newcastel Arena, for example Mark Knopfler is playing soon @ £45. Simply Red £45.

Newcastle City Hall have Simple Minds starting @ £41.50. UB40 @ 332.50. Moody Blues £41.50.

Personally, I'd go see The Moody Blues at that price. The others do nothing much for me except maybe Mark Knopfler

The WHO on the other hand at Hyde Park in London are £77. Now that would be worth it but have to travel 500 mile round trip. That would more than double the price even with discounted fares.

The WHO in San Diego for example, tickets start @ $35 U.S. What a difference in price!!

Dare I say rip off Britain LOL

  4. Great to see so many have lived it up and been to some really great concerts.

I think to see a band perform live is a great experience.

I do feel the best band I have see would be The Rolling Stones. Packed concerts. The atmosphere always great.

The price of tickets these days do seem more prohibitive when you take in travel and food too.

I saw a lot at Newcastle Arena & Newcastle city hall. Both small enough venues to make it feel more intimate.

Yet, to be somewhere like Sheffield arena with tens of thousands of other people all crammed in like sardines to watch the Rolling Stones will always be one of my favourite concerts.

As these great bands die away and we are left with many mundane 'pop' groups, I feel younger generations are going to be missing out on some fantastic times.

Great posts guys n gals. Keep them coming smile.png

What about television concerts or top of the pops? anyone been to something like that too?

  5. Hey, OP, do not look at me like that while I am reading your post. I do not like it.

Big wow! Children do stare. They are children. Maybe you look white as a ghost? Or he had a previous, strange encounter with a Farang.

Thai people do say Thank you.

There are rude people everywhere on this planet but we don't really find the need to mention it. And as said previously, learn some Thai.

Don't forget that smile either. It goes a hell of a long way in Thailand.

  6. As the topic suggests...

There are so many I have seen.

I'll never forget Buxton Festival in the early 1970's. Mud, rain and mayhem.

Performers like Chuck Berry, Nazareth, The Move to name some that I remember.

A few of us managed to shin up a pipe to get on stage when Chuck Berry was playing. Before security could throw us off stage, Chuck told them it was okay. On stage with Chuck Berry? Brilliant.

Rolling stones - seen them loads of times.

The Who - a couple of times.

The Moody Blues - twice. Last time at Newcastle Arena. Two drummers vying with each other. From up in the balcony it was a fantastic sight.

    AC/DC -once. Absolute madness rolleyes.gif

Status Quo - loads of times.

    Hawkwind - twice

    Bryan Adams - twice

    Split Enz - once

Saxon - several times before they made it to the big time.

Many more that I cannot remember. Sadly, I never saw Pink Floyd or Led Zepplin live.

I still have plenty of T-shirts from some of those concerts - not that they fit me now blink.png

Come one, give us your live bands and any stories related to them. There must be plenty of you who have been to concerts.
