safest thing an unwitting tourist in this country can do is stay as far away as possible from the RTP
-
Get lost ColdSingha. Do you you sleep good at night?"He said that case needed to have substantial evidence as it is closely watched by people around the world."
more substantial than a dna match and confession?!
is that evidence not rock solid anymore then?
do YOU have a point to make as mine is obviously lost on you?
let me re-iterate.. dna match and confession must now be shaky (or fabricated) as more evidence is needed.

You all who have never lived in another Asian country may want to contemplate why Thailand's neighbors do not have all these silly "visa" problems. Why is there a website called ThaiVisa ? Why is Thailand so special ? It was. It just isn't anymore.
When these "visa" rules became laughable in a week I was gone. The party is over. It is time to go.
If you have family there and cannot leave, you have my sympathies.
If anyone has family here they can always get an O visa or go for an extension of stay. I am almost 50 years but I don't want to go to the hassle of having 400k parked for two months in the bank account and go through the same hassle every year. For me the Elite Card is the only option .
you would rather spend 500K than leave 400K in a bank account?!

so does it mean if a thai ppl should be murdered in england in the future, thai police will have the right to go to england to investigate?
i suppose that depends on whether the british police balls up the investigation so badly it becomes an international incident, a petition with 100K names on it is signed and the heads of nations have to "have a word"

Then why are all my favorite hotels charging higher advertised rates this year than the same months last year?
Because they are using Thai-logic... When demand is low, then raise the prices to recover the lost revenue.
when demand is low, lower your prices further........then go bust! The UK has thousands of bust companies who followed the lower your price strategy. I think just hold your price and don't panic is the best move. Thai -logic is arrogant towards pricing policies. They will advertise a vacant room ,increase its rent by whatever percent year on year, even if 10 years later they never rented the room for 1 week they would believe themselves justified.Never thinking they were asking too much ten years ago and it still applies.
All because they heard second hand that someone somewhere was getting said x amount for a similar room.
But you have to balance the books, and if that means increasing prices to cover costs so be it. Whats the alternative! put money in.....no thats just a western idea.Thai-logic does not go there.
How about this ?
When the number of 'customers' is falling, right, you might feel that the customers who are still there are the 'hard-core addicts'. These people will carry on being customers, so you might want to bump up prices.
People who love going to Pattaya, Nana and Soi Cowboy, in all honesty, there's no other places like them on planet earth. So, yes, bump up prices if there is a reduction of customers. Those customers will continue to arrive, only a nuclear bomb will stop the genuine 'sex tourist' !
Actually, if there's no reduction in customers, bump up prices anyway. Where are they going to go ? There's no Nana or Soi Cowboy in Rangoon or Phom Penh.
Philippines?

7-8 years ago Thaksin also made a great cleansing of corrupt cops. Many had to leave.
sure about that?Reform has nothing to do with Change, so much is clear.
Since the start with Change will need a complete lockdown on law enforcement, in order to change the existing force into a normal functioning democratic police force.
Can't be done in a year!
Quote wikipedia: "In 2005. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili fired "the entire traffic police force" of the Georgian National Police due to corruption,[2] numbering around 30,000 police officers.[3]
A new force was built around new recruits.[2]The United States State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law-Enforcement Affairs has provided assistance to the training efforts.[4] Patruli was first introduced in the summer of 2005 replacing the traffic police, which were accused of corruption.[5]"
currently there are 42,000 serving police officers

Indeed, in Samui there are Burmese run restaurants that pay their (Burmese) staff 6000 baht a month. These guys have nothing. Hang their greedy bastards employers who are not willing to pay regular low wages and treat these guys as slaves.
same all over the south

i had it tried on with me, 5000baht for express service. i made it clear i wasnt going to pay more than 1900 baht as my documents were in order AND i was quite happy to wait. a few grumbles later all processed. i've been back twice since then and it hasnt been tried on again plus if anything i've been treated much better
Anyone paying 5k for an extn costing 1900 since the sign went up @ that office only has themselves to blame.
Me too 5,000Baht for a one year extension no receipt (Nathon, probably same officer)"Please be careful when applying through a visa extension agent, that the agent shows you an official receipt of 1,900 from Immigration, for your extension.
And how to do if the officer have charge you 5000 baths instead of 1900 and refuse to give you a receip ????
In Koh Samui recently for a 1 year retirement extension ... A classic here !
Of course the same, and he have make me waiting all day until 4 pm, knowing i needed to go back to koh tao with the last boat. So a lot of stress all day and he win.
I hate this guy.

and we are supposed to be experts on official stamps and receipts now?
just an idea, how about clamping down on the agents?

I was on Koh Tao in January and a Western friend who has worked there for a few years and has been living in a hut by the beach, said there were frequently couples having sex on her doorstep, often not even knowing each others' names, i.e. they finished and then asked "what's your name?' before going in opposite directions. She had sometimes turned lights on them and even threw cold water once, but without any shame on part of coupling couples.
This kind of behaviour gives a very bad example to locals in a country where sex in public is taboo and Thai women wear teeshirts to swim. OK the sex trade is rife, but mostly concealed in bars.
Absolutely not an excuse for these brutal murders, but maybe we should stop abusing the Thai and look at Western behaviour, which gives the wrong message about what is acceptable.
thai women wear t shirts on the beach to stay white not shield their bodies from prying eyes. jeez do you not see their profile pictures on facebook..

Scary:
Just after the murders had been discovered and it was on TV, my girlfriend said Burmese people did it.
Most scary:
Yesterday, I had a meeting with a Thai-guy and we talked about the case. He said, he believed that the two farangs were having sex on the beach and then 2 or 3 burmese men killed them.
Now seeing this article I feel like the people around me are either psychics or.... ??????? Need I say, that my girlfriend is very happy that she "guessed" it, already 5 min. after it was known?
Personally, I am convinced that the burmese guys, are just scapegoats and it is all a setup. I hope it backfires. But sure it will not.
I think Thais are fed this propaganda that they are all special people and wonderful and lovely and better than the nasty old foreigners.
wife (thai) saying thai social media is reading same as this. set up

Its pathetic some of these responses, no matter who they find guilty, i would say a lot on this forum would cry fowl !! One has admitted it, what you think he did so for money...
like the red bull heirs driver did..

not surprised by this, am surprised i got suckered into thinking something was going to change post coup.Any TV members/readers surprise with this news?
it's looking more and more like the only changes were remove the reds from all positions of power and some window dressing thrown in for the media/public appeasement
all major issues have so far been ignored its business as usual for the status quo in LOS

Generally its expected to kick back 30% or thereabouts to the guy above you.
and this is why "real" police work rarely gets done. in their minds it's a far better use of their time to collect tea money at 30% commission
remember that the next time a policeman tells you he "help you"
