  1. I offered my best understanding. Take it or leave it.

but its not the one our esteemed TV members demanded! therefore it means nothing [/sarc]

thanks anyway i found it useful and mirrored what my best friend had been told by a thai lawyer when he enquired (and was subsequently laughed out of the office) about legitimizing his foreign business when he didnt need a long term visa... "you wanna do what? and pay taxes here? hahahahahahaha no need no need"

  2. The need for social services in Thailand is dire

Hell, they dont even have sidewalks that meet

Which is why there is a need for some property taxes, as long as it's properly and fairly implemented. I hated paying property taxes when I lived in the states, but I did get to enjoy reasonably funded schools that are within walking distance that are free, libraries, sidewalks, street cleaning on a regular basis, professional emergency services and many other services that are lacking in Thailand.

$17 trillion in debt.. just saying whistling.gif

  3. Just what the economy doesn't need: uncertainty. For 2 years. As for the wealthy paying more of the tax burden...yeah, right. We shall watch that with interest but don't hold your breath.

precisely, the wealthy hold nothing in their own names hence there will be nothing to tax

everything is on the company expense account, held offshore or in trust

  4. Awful. Why is it so difficult to get a working visa in Thailand? Thailand needs to follow in South Koreas footsteps. All of the paperwork is done while the prospective teacher is in his/her home country. Before I taught in SK I needed my bachelors degree notarized and apostilled. The same with my FBI check. Included was my sealed transcript. Once done I sent the items to my recruiter who then secured my working visa for the year. The process took 3 months mainly because of the FBI check.

Why can't Thailand implement something similar?

it's not getting the work permit that's difficult, it's the reluctance to pay tax (and thus declare) foreign workers:

"A permit, issued by the Ministry of Labour, can take up to three months to issue and the employer becomes responsible for paying income tax on the salary. The minimum, taxable monthly salary for most nationalities is 50,000 baht."

  5. whistling.gif If the question is really can you provide a customer with GOODS or SERVICES from a location in Thailand legally without a Work Permit the answer is no.

It doesn't matter how you do it you can not legally supply goods (including E-Books) or services (including advice on medica advicel, financial advice or "advice to the lovelorn").

Not LEGALLY from Thailand, even if you receive no compensation, financial or otherwise.

Even if such financial compensation is deposited in a bank outside of Thailand, it still is illegal without a Work Permit to provide those goods or services from a location inside of Thailand without a Work Permit to do that.

But we all know it is possible to do so not legally.

So, basically the answer to your questions are ..... no, not legally.

Yes, I know that's silly, but since when did laws have to make sense ?

leave thailand, incorporate offshore company (having company sell goods outside thailand), come back to thailand, kick back at beach

    legal?

  6.

I have nothing todo all day but worry about the immigration problems of people I do not know and will never meet. NOT. Lock this thread we have enough post from people with real problems how about post with real solutions

    ok,

real solution #1: get the correct visa

    next..?

Originally, they specially included tourist visas in the back-to-back clampdown.....so the "correct visa" may not actually exist any more. There is of course also  no real definition of "visa run/back-to-back/ tourist etc etc.....

that's the crux, the definitions haven't been defined. the reason why, i'd imagine, is in defining the rules they'd also define the loopholes

  7. I really expected this thread to light up a lot more than it has based on the number of people that supposedly game the ED system. Maybe there aren't quite as many people using the ED in a manner in which it was never intended as some thought there were?

I mean, if you're actually using it to learn Thai, there's nothing in these changes to get your shorts in a bunch about. So, in light of the lack of expected outrage, I'm wondering if most of the people using the ED really are going to class and learning a word or two?

yeah i actually thought the same but its barely stayed on the front page, i guess much more people were working on visa exempts and immigration has got it about right

  8. I am in a similar situation doing 10weeks on/off and due to fly back in on the 13th August. I have an 1yr extension of stay based on ED at the moment with multi re-enty permit as there was no other real option for me.....getting a bit worried reading the stories online at the mo! I've printed out my contract, bank statements payslips etc so can hopefully prove that my earnings come from offshore and not illegally working in Thailand if questioned.

I shall post how I get on.

You may be questioned about your Thai knowledge level, where do you go to school, and why you have been away so long.

Working abroad is clearly contrasting with studying in Thailand, so be prepared for that.

Better would be you obtain a Tourist visa to avoid any unpleasant situation.

It is very difficult for me to get a tourist visa as when I get off the boat I just fly straight back to Thailand. I may just not mention my 1yr ED extension of stay and re-entry permit and just pass through swampy on a visa exempt stamp. Just sat in the lounge in Dubai waiting for the last leg trying to decide which option to use. I read in another thread that the 1yr ED extensions obtained through agents are exactly what they will be clamping down on.......Think I might just bite the bullet and go for the Thai Elite card when I get to Thailand.

is there not a thai embassy/consulate in dubai?
