it's up to you to take your hand and discover for yourself the most beautiful roads in Thailand ..
    If you like the mountains, come in the northern provinces, forgetting the main routes as quickly as possible;

    In the province of Chiang Rai, ride on the 1149 between Mae Sai and Mae Fa Luang, don't forget your passport because there is an army check point along the way;
Rd 1149 is one example among hundreds of others
    There is the famous Chiang Mai - Chiang Mai loop passing through Pai, Soppong, Mae Hong Son (route 1095 & 108);
but there are many others, the 1234 which goes up to Mae Salong, a Chinese village where you will meet minorities (in addition to the Chinese who are now Thai ) ...

Thanks. But I am afraid I am not a tourist. I am doing a study on Thailand officially recognised scenic routes, not on beautiful roads. ????

  2. Hi, I travel a lot by motorbike and I have sometimes found 'Scenic Routes' marked by a blue roadsign similar to the one used for Department of Rural Roads.

Does anyone know if Scenic Routes (or Scenic Roads?) are an official entity, and there is therefore a finite number of them?

If so, where can I find a list of them?

    Thanks in advance.

if you canceled your extension and applied for a extension on retirement on December 27th would you be working from the 28th to the 31st?

You could ask your employer to date the termination letter for the 2nd or 3rd of January and apply then.

Thanks. It's going to be messy. from 27 to 31 yes I would be working.

I'll see what can be done. Thanks a lot.

First you will not be applying for a non-o visa. You can only do that at a embassy or consulate Or at immigration if you are on a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

You will be applying for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement on the same day your current extension of stay based upon working is canceled.

I suggest you do everything the last week of December. Go to immigration with a termination letter to have you current extension of stay canceled and then apply for the extension based upon retirement.

    Thanks.

Are you able to tell me about the timing and my ability to work?

I.e. if I am granted the extension before the end of the year, will that compromise my ability to work? and if I get it after the end of the year will I be on overstay?

I assume you are on a extension of stay not a 90 day entry from a non-b visa.

The end of you contract does not really matter.

You will need a termination letter from your employer stating your last day of work and then on or before that date you cancel your extension of stay at immigration.

The same day you do what I mentioned for number 1.

    Thanks Ubonjoe.

Regarding your assumption, I think it's correct, maybe you can validate this thinking of mine.

I was on a 1 year extension ending June 2020 until 1st October. Then my company closed down and we were all transferred to a related company. As a result of that my extension of stay was cancelled and so was my work permit. I applied again for 'something' related to the new company and a new stamp was put on my passport saying: 'Extension of stay permitted until 31st December'. Incidentally this was on 1st October, which makes it exactly three months validity (90 days), but it's not a new entry, it's an extension isn't it? It's just a change from the previous extension.

This said, now I'd like to clarify about your answer.

My company through an agency will cancel my visa and WP. I will hand my passport to them (as I did in September when we did the company swap) and they will do what you suggest, stating when my last day of work is.

Then I will do as you said, I will apply for the Non-O visa. My questions:

    - Will my ability to work be impacted by my request for the non-O visa? The agency I spoke with today said (but I don't trust them much) that if I get the Non-O visa quickly after my application, before the end of my contract, that will make me unable to work legally.

On the other hand, if I don't get my non-O visa before 31st December it means I will have to leave the country before the new year to avoid overstay?

So - unless I am missing something - I seem to be stuck between having to stop work early or ending up on overstay. Unless there is some kind of flexy mechanism to allow this transition.

    My ideal scenario:

    - Apply for Business visa and WP cancellation on 23rd December

    - File application for Non-O on 23rd December.

    - Filing the application grants permission to stay in the country for the time it takes to get the non-O visa.

    - I can continue working until 31st December regardless of when the non-O visa is granted.

    Is this at all possible?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Hi all,

Need some advice on this one.

I am EU citizen, I meet all the requirements for the Non-O Retirement, and I had one before.

I am currently employed, with regular Non-Immigrant B and WP (BOI).

    My problem/question is this.

My employment contract will end on 31st December, and I will not renew.

My company will cancel my Business Visa and WP and I will need to apply for Non-O retirement again.

I need to plan it so that everything happens smoothly and - hopefully I do not have to leave the country.

I am well aware that I can leave the country, come back as a tourist and apply for Non-O retirement, but I don't want to do that, I want to stay in the country.

And obviously I want to stay working until the very last day.

    My questions:

1 - When should I cancel my Non-B and WP? Before the end of the contract?

My thinking: if I cancel before the end of the contract I won't be able to work, right? And if I cancel after the end of the contract I will be on overstay, right?

2 - When should I apply for the Non-O retirement?

I guess this depends on the first question?

In other words, can someone please help me plan this properly so that I can continue working until the end of the contract, not leave the country and get my Non-O retirement.

There is also the added complication of public holidays, being the new year.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. So did you spend 70000 baht for new fork and rear suspension? It's almost 50% of forza price lol.

Or maybe better look at some Kawasaki Z 400 ปี 2019 with manual transmission????????????? Or Honda CBR 500

Hi, sorry, maybe I was not clear. The 70k I referred to was the difference between the cost of PCX and Forza. If I don't remember wrong the YSS suspensions for the Forza front and back were 10k.

Which EU state is not VOA?

Just to be precise, VOA is Visa on Arrival and that is not what we are discussing here... VOA is for other nationalities. The 30 days visa free entry is usually called Visa Exemption, you don't get a visa at all (you just get the entry stamp), whereas with visa on arrival you can apply for a visa 'on arrival' and then get your entry stamp at immigration.

To answer your question, EU countries where visa exemption doesn't apply: Romania, Malta and possibly other eastern countries.

  9. Hi Max. I think my last message was misunderstood... there us no question about staying in myanmar, my curiosity was on how one could do if he was not allowed back into Thailand, as he could not be in Myanmar either...
This curiosity was satisfied by tahayut's latest post.
    Tx

You were talking about an easy border run from BKK,and that's what the advises going from Kanchanaburi are about. You said nothing about staying in Myanmar.

  10. Thanks to all answers. As from my earlier posts (1) He does qualify for visa exemption and (2) he will do the visa run from tesco lotus on nut as advised above. He'll leave in a few days so I will post here how it went. Just curious... when doing the Kanchanaburi visa run one enters Myanmar with a special day pass, which I guess doesn't allow to stay in Myanmar more than a day, nor it does allow to travel anywhere else other than the border area... if my assumption is right, how could one be refused to enter Thailand again? If that was possible that part of Myanmar would be a refugee camp of no failed visa runners... see what I am saying?

  11. Thanks. He will do the Kanchanaburi run indeed. He is here with me now and sends heartfelt thanks. [emoji6]

There are 2 borders this company uses

Kanchanaburi - This border used to be difficult but has recently relaxed - IMO this is the best place - he also has the added bonus of going with the visa company who should be able to sort out any issues although to be honest he shouldn't really get any anyway

Ban Leam - Not been for a while so not had any first hand experience lately but it used to be easy - again the Visa Company will be able to sort out any issues

Tell him to take the first option - it's a lot quicker also - Ban Leam is a 5 hour trip both ways

  12. Thanks to all. He will do the Tesco Lotus visa run. He lives nearby and looks well organized. Thanks again.

Go to Tesco Lotus On Nut before 4am. They go to Myanmar and Cambodia everyday. Myanmar is 2000 and Cambodia I think around 3000. The website is https://www.thaivisaservice.com/

He will get 30 days visa exempt extendable. Max 2 land border run by calendar years. It's not worth it to try doing it yourself [emoji846]

depends on passport, depends on where he is, depends on how much $$ he wants to spend

EU Passport, he is in Bangkok. Obviously the cheapest option is best. He prefers to go by land but can fly if required, but only to a neighbouring country. I updated the original post to include all answers to your questions.

  14. Hi,

I am just going out to meet a friend who is asking for help in staying his fourth (and last) month in Thailand, so I need a quick reply if possible, so by the time I reach him I will have a solution to his problem.

    Here is the situation.

He is a tourist, EU passport, he is in BKK now. He stayed 2 months and extended another month (he has no previous history of visits to Thailand).

He now has to wait a further 4 weeks for his return flight back home, so he is thinking of a visa run... the cheapest the better.

He has a EU passport, so my thinking is that he can simply go out and come back in same day and get a 30 days visa exempt stamp, right?

Can someone please advise on (1) whether he will have problems coming back in (2) where he should do it (Laos? Cambodia? Malasya? Myanmar?) and (3) whether by land or by air makes a difference (and which of these is best).

    Thanks a lot.

  15. Visa in latin languages is "Visto", which simply means "Seen".
It is therefore a mention by a representative of the government of the issuing country (a consule) who is better located and have more time available to conduct a research on the subject and inform the immigration officer at the border that the subject has been "seen" (checked) and is ok to enter the country. Obviously the visa grants no rights whatsoever, it's an intra government device to facilitate the work of the border checks. If I have a visa and the immigration finds me unacceptable they will not let me in.
From this we should then deduce how to explain the Visa Exemption, and the extensions, which are not Visa Extensions but Permissions to Extend your Stay.
This is also proven by the fact that often one is permitted to stay beyond the validity of the visa, but mot beyond the validity of the entry stamp (unless an extension is granted).
Languages are live matter, and when translations come in meanings change. Also money and diplomatic stuff makes everything more complex.
So it's well possible that official channels call an extension of stay a Visa Extension. It is also possible that a Peruvian consule in China grants me a visa to visit Peru regardless of their inability to conduct any checks on me.
    Love this stuff.

From an old post (2014) by Thailaw in this forum:

Noi Wat Dan 24. He is on Soi Wat Dan, about 1.5 to 2 km from the Bearing BTS station. All the motorbike taxis know him and where he is. Take your old seat with you; he will put the new seat on the plastic frame. Takes about 2 to 3 hours and the price is about B1,200. Closed on Thursdays. Across the street and left (as you face out from Noi's shop) about 20 meters is Kan@Wat Dan, who is also good and a few 100 Baht cheaper.

Noi has lots of seat designs, fabric choices and stitching colors. He did 2 PCX seats for me. Excellent work. Given the passage of time, the information above on days open and pricing may not be accurate.

    Perfect, thanks!

Seat rebuilds are cheap & often while-you-wait.

Tell me more please. Would I do it on the original seat to make it softer, or would it help the problem of the step being too far behind for my height (see my post). And do you know where in BKK I could do it?

    Thanks!

HiI have owned a PCx for 18 months which I bought from new and am looking to upgrade to something bigger and more comfortable on longer rides. At the moment, after 30 minutes I get a numb bum and feel the seat on the PCx is crap. I upgraded the suspension to yss g euro's which helped smooth out the terrible road surfaces and even changed the seat. When I drive down Sukhumvit road flat out at 95 kph, cars, trucks and other vehicles fly past dangerously close. I went down to Mityon in Pattaya and saw the new Forza 2018 alongside the Xmax. Sat on both for 5 minutes each. Have to say almost identical looking bikes, Xmax seat was miles more comfortable and definitely learning more towards the Xmax than the new Forza. Yes, Forza looks mikes better than old model but still same old engine, slower acceleration and top speed than Xmax. Didn't decide yet....

    .

I ended up in this thread for the opposite reason... I had a PCX for 18 months, travelled very long journeys and found it very comfortable. I upgraded to Forza 300 a few months ago and I found the Forza sit harder and now I have pain at the bottom of my spine, as the little step in the seat is too far behind for me to provide support for my weight. In other words either I sit back and try to support my back, but the bike is too tall to do that or I sit closer to the front of the seat but it's quite painful. A new seat is expensive and is not a safe bet. I regret having upgraded, as I travelled long journeys all the time.

Get a multiple entry non-o, then you can enter unlimited times during a year, each time receiving 90 days.

Or even better a Non-OA that gives you one year permission to stay every time you enter during a year.

Only difference when applying is that the Non-OA requires a health declaration and police report.

The Non-OA can be used for two years if you get a multiple entry re-entry permit the second year.

You can convert your visa examption, or your tourist visa into a Non-Immigrant O at Chaeng Wattana. You will need to have money in the bank (can provide more details if you wish), you will get 90 days that you can then extend year on year. With a multiple entry reentry permit and 1900 per year for your extension you will be OK for life (until the law changes). This is very similar to the nonOA, but you don't have to exit the country to get it and you don't have to mess about with medical certificates and police reports. It's Non-O for the purpose of retirement. The constraints are: (1) Need money (not seasoned) when you first apply. (2) Need to wait a couple of weeks for the visa to be issued (cannot leave the country) (3) Need to apply for extension (and therefore be in the country) 90 days later, and need money seasoned for 2 months (recent changes mean that the money need to stay in your account afterwards too, not too clear on that).

Surely there will be others here who have other views, but I can vouch that the above is well possible because I did it... from tourist to Non-O, for the purpose of retirement.
