  1. My I reiterate my offer. I think I know this guy and if Im right then hes a decent fella.

Get in touch if you can mate.

I am guessing he does not have computer and easy access to one or internet,

Most likely uses internet cafe but as he said only 2000 baht in the bank.

May be send him PM, so if he does get a chance to log back in, he does not have to read the entire thread and possibly miss your offer.

  2. did you not see the writing on the wall ? and think I better go back home to my own country before I get in the shit here ? good luck I hope things work out for you.

GIve OP a break, he went through the surgery and hospital.

By the time he recovered, he did not know company he worked for was going to close.

I must also say, with medical bills here, you get quoted 1 price, but bills started to add up after the surgery and during the surgery.

When i had my surgery, initial quote was 255K, by the time i got out of the hospital bill was around 350k

Then came the physio, initially quoted 55K, ended up being double

Its not like he pissed his money away on a girl or booze,

  3. sounds like looking for handouts and a sucker to give money

at 30 prime of life should be working not on drugs here

Thanks a lot for your amazing advice.

If I may, I would like to give you some advice as well:

    - You may want to thoroughly read a thread before commenting on it. I'm not on drugs and I'm not 30.

    - I hope nothing will ever happen to you, be it an accident, an illness, the death of a loved one or any other thing life sometimes likes to throw at people. Because then you would know how bad it makes you feel when you are down and people use it to throw one final little jab at you. Yes, like you just did here.

I like to let you know, you are not the only one in same situation.

I lost my entire family 2 years ago and am alone just like yourself, strangely enough i am 39.

I know exactly where you coming from and what you mean.

But you have to keep in mind, life MUST go on and you MUST take care yourself, because there is no one else out there who would.

When my mother died, i did not have access to immediate money, and in my home country funeral was going to cost over $15 000

None of my friends or my mothers friends were willing to help, being well aware they would be repaid in less than 3 months, after sale of the property.

My millionaire friends all over sudden had no money.

The reason why i am telling you all these is because you MUST get yourself together and get on with your life.

I am not taking a jab at you, but hoping to motivate you from experience,

I will add, after i lost entire family, i hit the bottle on regular basis and even now, 2 years later have days, sometimes weeks when i hit it again, because when i think about what has happened and disappointment over friends and everything else related, drinking becomes the only solution for the day.

Do not do what i did and still doing. Does not help with reality.

I found my peace with rescuing animals, i now have quite a few, do NOT do that either, its expansive and really hard work, but if you can have 1, do it.

Read my previous post about work sites, and get on it ASAP, and as many have suggested, get a teaching job in the middle of nowhere, i doubt they would be checking for anything.

Once you save up some money, do a visa run, and pay off your landlord in installments. I know it sounds BIG, but baby steps and i am certain you would be back on your feet in less than a year with teaching and internet work

If you want to talk or more detail, just PM me.

Great advice from someone who has been there smile.png

On another point, ODesk is now Upwork

    https://www.upwork.com/

I use this site for graphic designers and also get paid writing work now and then - if you can write and have access to a computer/internet cafe - do it!

Yes, sorry upwork, i still type in odesk and it redirects. :)

Been using it for 15 years

  5. Going home would be your best option, however i do understand your position, no family and/or friends back home.

    Check out Odesk.com and Freelance.com and Elance.com

All 3 sites are platforms connecting providors with employers.

Basically people post jobs, jobs such as creating writing, marketing writing, blog writing, virtual agent etc.

You bid on this jobs and so on

Keep in mind you would be competing with millions from India and Bangladesh, who often will bid very low, waste time and provide nothing.

Because of that, many employers not only hide jobs from certain regions(available feature) but also prefer to give jobs to Western origin people.

Keep your bids low to gain feedback/reputation and go from there.

There are literally millions of jobs posted daily.

  6. No foreigner owned business can even operate until you find out who to bribe. If that puts you off, then certainly forget about Phuket.

Sorry but that is just rubbish.

I own 3 businesses, hotel, restaurant and a bar.

Bar does not have any girls or boys, does not stay open past midnight, and does not play any music, just TV and i have never had to bribe anyone to be in business.

I do give "donation" when i need to renew license, but its only so that i can have it in 10 mins, instead waiting for few weeks.

I also pay 1500 baht per MONTH to local police station and that is to have daily police patrols and direct number in case of emergency. This is not forced on to you and is NOT actually easy to get, so hardly a bribe

    another successful story

I am far from been rich, If i was to have the same type of businesses in the West i would be.

So hardly a success, but not doing too bad.

I will say though, when i opened my restaurant, there was not a single one in 300 meter radius, we were busy.

Within about 2 months, 5 opened in 50 meter radius, so naturally all, including myself were loosing money as not enough customers.

few months after, all 5 closed down, so mine got busy again.

Same thing, happened again, 5 new ones opened one.

Its been like this now for 5 years.

Same thing happened with hotel. I was the only one in the price range, now have another 3 right next to me and doing the exact thing.

I am constantly battling "monkey see monkey do", and this battles are expansive as i have to invest a lot of money into marketing and advertising

  7. I'm a bit confused about the OP where it says: "wanted to warn teachers and businessman/women that if you have a non-immigrant B visa that is in progress, your work permit must be canceled."

I will have to go to Savannakhet next month, so if anyone can advise whether or not I will encounter any problems, based on current situation there, would be great.

    My situation:

I am currently on my last permission to stay granted to me based on a Non Imm O <marriage> visa. That visa (no, not an extension of stay) expired in June last.

I did an exit/entry the day before it expired to get the last 90 days out of it.

This last permission to stay will expire next month (mid September).

I plan to go to Savannakhet to get a new non imm visa.

However, this time I will go to get a non imm B visa, not a non imm O.

I should mention I also have a work permit, which will have to be renewed mid October, by the way.

    1) Are the requirements, at Savannakhet, to apply for a non imm B visa, still the same as mentioned on Thai MFA website?

    http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15388-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-%28for-Business-and.html

    2) Does the OP relate to my situation in any way?

Do I have to cancel my work permit?

    3) Have there been reports about special requirements for non imm B visa when applying at Savannakhet?

Thanks in advance for any good advice!!

Edit to add: I am not working as a teacher.

Thread is almost a year old, you should use search function for latest threads, updates and experiences

  9. OP, you ask a very basic question, which means you have NOT done any real research, besides visiting another restaurant 4 times in the past 18 months.

Take your time, do more and more research (NOT on TVF, mostly negative, but realistic people).

Take 1-2 years more, save up more money with your friend.

    Visit other Asian countries.

Thailand is in turmoil, nobody knows where all will go.

It could get better or worse for farangs, the past 10 years it has only gotten worse every year.

Always ONLY spend what you can loose. Do NOT expect to break even or make a profit from day one. Have plenty of backup money you are also willing to loose.

You will need a "trusted" Thai to communicate with you staff. A Thai that listens to you, which will be the hardest part.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

How has it gotten worse for farangs?

I am curious as to the answer to that question as well

Granted the arse fell out of a lot of farang pensions as regards exchange rates but you can hardly blame Thailand for that

In my 14 years here really struggling to come up.with has made things harder for farangs per se

I am guessing he could be referring to visa regulations being tightened up, but business visa's have not been affected at all.

Might also be referring to crack down on nominee shareholders, but then again, they always did that time to time and hardly a crack down when thousands of companies operate in this way and only a few get targeted. and usually the prominent ones

  11. OP, I will only comment on 1 aspect of the business, as I own one.

    Chefs/cooks

Unless you planning to be one, you can forget your idea because

    1. Chefs here are alcoholics

    2. Because of reason 1, often they do not show up to work or require few shots of whisky during work to cook eatable food.

    3. You would need to train them on how to cook healthy and they are not the fastest learners especially with language barriers.

    4. They steal

    5. They have no idea how to keep stock control , so often you may hear , something is finished when order is placed.

    6. Anyone with half a brain and some experience asks for really high salary, ie your prices have to rise.

Now if you decide to overcome all 6 by replacing the cook, you would need either new menu or training again, which means crappy food in the mean time.

  12. I am sure it is a real study and it does define a person and personality.

The problem is with so many charlatans out there, hard to know who is for real and who is scamming,

I believe in China, zodiac is a factor in determining if partner is suitable.

  13. That's a completely different situation. I didn't say that there are no murders or muggings in the RP, I said that you dont get gangs of Filipinos ganging up on foreigners just because they are foreign.

Here you get both things, and in spades.

DO you want to try again?

Yes you do get gangs, ganging up, killing and robbing.

As i said, step outside safe zone of Angeles City and see how safe you will feel.

Actually, whilst I've visited just about every large and medium sized island in the RP, and spent half my time there for many years, I've never actually been to Angeles. Nor do I have any wish to go there. I went to Olongapo once and that was enough.

And I've always felt safe in the RP, as indeed I do here.

Putting aside your "experience" being in total contradiction to what other posters here and everywhere else saying. You also seem to know about Thai owned businesses ethics yet never worked a day in Thai company or with a Thai.

So do forgive me for not believing a word you saywai.gif

  14. Next time I'm out and about I will look in the gutter see if I can find you, that is obviously the level you are at.

Interesting, when you out, you looking in gutters? why? looking for loose change?

You obviously do not read English that good either, if you did you would understand the statement.

Oh, my apology, i did not realize it was a statement. I thought you were sharing your daily life activities

  15. with a bar girl, some set our sights a lot higher and found what we were looking for.

    Yes in Chinagiggle.gif

No met her in the UK, did some work on her sisters house.

Told ya, ,some work in Uk as well

Next time I'm out and about I will look in the gutter see if I can find you, that is obviously the level you are at.

Interesting, when you out, you looking in gutters? why? looking for loose change?

  16. I think you are. Aren't you the guy who don't like hookers? That is surly a product of being young and PC or some cult thing from your upbringing. I think you are brainwashed and that strikes me as forced.

Thailand unbrainwashes most men in a few years so stick around you may get your free will back. wai.gif

My apologies if I got the wrong guy and you do like hookers like a normal male in Thailand and fit quite well into the social scheme of things here.

I've been here 7 years and I haven't been "unbrainwashed".

Look, I'm not getting into a big debate about prostitution - it's been done to death but suffice it to say that I can get tail without having to pay for it; so that's what I do.

    Ok?

OK with me. How do you get them to leave? I have to pay them. You must have another secret.

I let dogs inside the house. Takes less than 1 min, cheesy.gif
