Samui tends to attract a number of foreign criminals. Comes in third place after Pattaya and Phuket

i understand that there are numerous pot heads on your mystery island that live off in La la land (The Beach) . Without the weed most tend to be dumber than bricks already. Like many foreigners that arrive and live here believe that they should have the freedom to do what ever they wish. Tends to get most of them like yourself in trouble with the law or the Thais in general. Not sure what you expected and hopefully next time you forget where your at the Thai government will jail and later deport you. Keep On Smoking

When i saw Cha-Am (Hua Hin) area mentioned that explains everything. Just another foreign tourist trap with drunks/alcoholics . Curious how many foreign drunks are walking around with guns. Should all be deported.

Sadly foreigners like this are becoming the norm in Thailand. Wish the Thai government would make it much more difficult to visit or stay here. Perhaps the riff raff would slime its way over to Cambodia lot of these types are there already likely deported from Thailand and elsewhere . One of the many reasons i give the tourist slums a wide berth.

Dirty, boring, lots of foreigners that seemed to have drifted up from Pattaya with bar girl in tow. Often beer in hand if that is the type of crowd you wish to hang with

Oh God forbid say anything positive about the Thais. I ask myself this question everyday. If the foreigners that live and visit here hate the Thais so much. Why do you stay ? Two reasons. And if you look deep and are honest with yourself i think you already know the answer. I would have done the same for my girlfriend without a second thought. Sacrifice your own life for another should be honored.

In answer to many of the replies, where have I stated that it is me that wants to marry a Cambodian girl. In my case I have just married a Thai girl and I am very happy with her. Also where have I stated that the Westerner is older than 50 years old. So now that we have got that out of the way can I please have some sensible answers to the questions I have asked.

Let me understand this. He breaks the law and is a wonderful guy ? This also includes foreigners over staying their visas and other various laws broken here. Send him to Singapore and see how long he lasts pulling this off.

Got a call from a Thai woman friend i have known for years this afternoon who lives on Samui. Can not discuss much of the details but she was invited to dinner with Mr. Influential when the shooting took place. As i have mentioned before a number of mafias are in control of the island both Thai and foreign. So if you have no problems supporting your local mafia continue visiting the Full Moon Party, Koh Samui and Koh Tao. I won,t get near the place. My Thai friends and family understand this and we meet elsewhere.

Most major businesses on Samui, such as the major hotels, are owned and run by people in Bangkok. I am sure there are some local and foreign wannabe gangster types, but they don't control anything worth mentioning.

You have some good points. But i am talking about the Korat city i knew from seven years ago compared to a year ago. Seven years ago i saw few if any foreigners there and what few i did see seemed they had the ability to put the bottle down at least a portion of the day. Compared to a year ago i saw many more foreigners and every one perhaps i missed the sober ones, gave me the creeps. Another poster i had spoken to on this site mentioned much the same. Speaking from just not too long ago compared to now. So my theory since as a biologist that deals with migration is sadly the Pattaya drunks/sex tourists somehow got word of the few foreign bars that have opened and with the help of Thai bar girl (girlfriend ) ????? have drifted in that direction. Just wish there was a way to fence them in to the Pattaya /Phuket areas so their wonderful personalities would not spread into the once quiet areas of Issan.don,t know how much time you have spent in Thailand as a whole. But you will soon notice as their numbers grow in certain areas the Thais attitudes drastically change and from there it is a very fast spiral down the toilet. Have witnessed this numerous times. It never ends well.

Whoa - lets take a step back, Big Jim - how many times have you seen people chime into a cost of living thread here to tell us all how little it costs them to live in the wonderful Northeast ? Assuming said bargirl is from somewhere in the region anyway, wouldnt it be a natural migration ? My experience here - admittedly only 10 months as a retiree - tells me that they arent all that far gone - if anything, the longtimers I've met seem to have a very healthy respect for what the bars can do to a man over time. When you reach the 'dazed look from alcoholism' stage, I dont think it matters a great deal were you live - those guys will be a propping up to a bar from 10am till dusk wherever they land.

Paradise is getting smaller because the Thai government thinks more foreigners means better. I would pay thousands more for my visa if the government made a real effort thinning out the foreign riff raff. The tourist traps tend to attract the lowest of humanity both Thai and foreign. They deserve each other.

Would seriously consider Singapore or Malaysia far fewer of the worlds worst foreigners. You have to admit Thailand and Cambodia tends to attract the bottom of the barrel of humanity. Shut the bars down at midnight and millions would flee. OMG! No booze. What will i do ?????

@gandalf12, if you dont like (central) Pattaya, you dont have to come anywhere near the place - what's with the endless rants about quality tourists ? Incidents like this happen regularly in Pattaya - getting your knickers in a twist isnt going to change anything. If the Thais were serious about changing things here, they would be trying to make the country another Singapore - how many of us want to live in Singapore ? OK - other than you, how many ?
