  1. She needs to keep in shape. Besides another Bob will enter the bar at any moment.

It's too late already.Warn him not to put anymore money into the business and not to give any money to Lek.( even if its for 'dying' relatives, funerals etc)..If it's just in her name she owns 100% of that bar.He has no rights!! What a tool! If I were you i would consider giving him some advice and then staying away from this whole situation...

What a wonderful idea. Move to a country on the other side of the world.Pick up a hooker and a few days later give her 15,000 pounds to open a bar. The amount of people who lack common sense is really startling.Perhaps they should teach it in school as a separate subject...( No offence intended! but this sort of story makes me a little angry, not at the opportunism of the girl but at the lack of sense from the man!)....

Right, I agree. Next he will be wondering why she is sleeping with other guys.
  2. Well he soon will be joining other foreigners on the streets of Bangkok begging for money. Besides what is wrong with 30 baht Thai food ? Guess you don,t get out much and eat at Burger King every day.

Jealous of Bob ? And the thousands of other alcoholics sitting in foreigner bars throughout Thailand day after day in a non stop stupid daze. What are you drinking ? Must be rocket fuel.

Lot of jealous people on this thread. Lucky Bob. He can drink himself to death for free, others have to pay for the privilege.

If people weren't jealous of Bob having the $$ to piss away they wouldn't be posting so viciously, at least ole Bob isn't trying to scratch enough money together for his next order of 30 baht street food.

Some guys come to Thailand not because they can't afford their home country but because they want to try something different. Some guys have serious money backing them up.

Jealous?? Yeah me thinks many are...........

  4. Shag her and later find out what various forms of STD's he has from the numerous foreigners that demand never using a condom. Stay tuned for Part # 2 . Known of a few of Koh Samui who enjoy spreading their deadly diseases. These guys should be S***T!

Well, my only advice to Bob is to enjoy it while he can. Shag her every which way he can every night for the memories.

On the other hand, sometimes things may work out fine, look at some of the couples you see running around, some of them started off this way.

  5. They never learn do they ? When is he getting married ? Another sucker. Sorry i have no mercy for these guys. Let me guess he drinks a lot. My best advice being his friend get as far from him and her as possible. Otherwise he will drag you down with him. Nice to hear at least you have common sense which is seriously lacking with most foreigners visiting and living here.

  6. I keep my special places to myself. I guess you believe its best to cover Thailand with Burger Kings , Girly Bars and drunk foreigners. Anyone that understands the problems tend to keep their places a secret.

Samui is paradise lost like so much of Thailand. Wall to wall shops , obnoxious foreigners and obnoxious Thais. Mafia controlled , numerous foreign criminals, over priced crap Thai food, crowded beaches. Travel half way around the world to the pit of humanity for what ? Having said that Pattaya , Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Chiang Mai, Pai, Koh Chang and other locations add to the list.

Would you please name a place you'd recommend, be it Thailand or elsewhere?

  7. Trust me you don,t want to see the hell they created . Once is enough for anyone that has any common sense or morals. Both places attract some really creepy foreigners both men and women.

I have not been in any of the 2 since 83. And neither attract me to live there or for a holiday

  8. i guess you did not read the entire thing. i learned from my experiences with thousands of foreigners over the years. I guess you really hate the Thais and Thailand . I would suggest one thing.

So......you are saying that 50% of countries would not let you in due to apparel worn and a facial expression?

Foreigners "destroying" Thai culture? Sorry, only Thais can do that and they are doing a very good job. Witness Songkrahn.

You should learn that hyperbole debases the point you are trying to make.

  9. Totally agree ! Why ? Less obnoxious and often drunk foreigners both men and women.

something has n't been mentioned here is the locals attitude to tourists and resident expats.I have seen a marked decline in their tolerance.Greed and impatience is everywhere, the genuine smiles are long gone." THEY WANT THE MONEY BUT NOT THE PEOPLE" is often said.It happens everywhere not just on Samui.

Yet go to any place in thailand where there are few tourists,expats...and you will see plenty of genuine smiles and people willing to help you.

  10. yea because the younger generations have decided to copy us. Rude, crude and many of the younger girls dress like bar girls. I wonder where they got that idea from? US!

If you go to Burma now you will feel how tourists to Thailand felt 20 years ago. Everybody seemed so friendly and everyone smiled and wanted to help. It was nice to be in such a place, tourists were amazed by what they saw and the locals seemed genuinely happy that tourists were interested in their country.

Fast forward twenty years and nothing is left in Thailand tourist resorts except cynicism, all tourists are seen as cash cows by everyone from the top government to lowliest rice farmer. Tourists feel they are barely tolerated because they have money, and the locals have hardened beyond belief, gone are the open and friendly smiles, and all that is left is greed, greed , greed and more greed.

That said if you leave all the tourist areas and venture out into the countryside that sense of amazement that could be found everywhere 20 years ago is still there.

I would like to add that indeed it is still there in the country side, where I live, but mainly coming from older generations. The bodylanguage of young generations often shows contempt and even hatred, sorry to have to mention that.

  11. They are all just moving from one over rated crowded foreign crap hole to another.

Forgot to mention Hua Hin as one of my top ten places to avoid. No thanks. Just another paradise lost. What a crap hole.

That's good, Hua Hin have record in number of tourist this season so we don´t really need more people.
Seems that folks moving from Phuket to Hua Hin, wonder why..

  12. Thanks for mentioning that place. Kiss that place goodbye next. Ever thought of keeping your mouth shut ?

Seems you've pretty accurately summed up the whole scenario, especially island life. For years I loved going to Phuket ( karon beach) and diving in the similans. I haven't been able to go for 4/5 years and now been widely advised against revisiting. It begs the question, where now for a beach holiday especially as I'm a snorkelling/ diving fan? Went to Cha am last week for a few days and visited Hua hin for a day. Ok for a break but beach/sea underwhelming, especially in Hua hin, and no enthusiasm for a repeat trip especially compared to what Phuket used to be like. Went to koh Chang about 8 years ago and again underwhelmed (poor beaches)So where's the next island/ beach resort to try?...... Koh Lanta and adjacent islands? I've recently emigrated to Phimai (korat) where we have a house but wish to get away on a regular basis Answers on a postcard please?

Try Laem Chao Mai directly west of Trang on the Andaman Sea. . Two small resorts, totally deserted beach; some resorts on offshore islands.

  13. I totally agree with everything you say. Fly half way around the world to a third world country complain about everything, make no effort to understand Thai customs nor the language after you move here and wish to copy everything you left behind. So my question is. Why in the hell did you come here or bother moving here ? Mass tourism has destroyed much of this country. Give it another ten years and the Thai government will cover every last square mile with foreigners , resorts, Burger King and worse. It is only going to get worse. This is Thailand. Not Germany, not America, not Sweden not Russia . Only empty headed foreigners follow each other like sheep to repeat everything the left.

I live on Samui since 1986 and I paid 30 baths for a bungalow on the beach (yes I can remember) and I paid 10 baths for a plate of rice with something on top. Then they built the airport and it was the beginning of the end. Then we got the tourists. They wanted to eat the same food they have at home but Thai food is delicious. Much more than the Mc Donald's rubbish, they wanted air-con (if it's to hot they could stay at home instead of coming here and spoil the island. They also wanted swimming pools a few meters from the sea. I just don't understand these people who travel far to get what they have at home. If you come to complain, just stay at home, easy no? then after this we got the worst: THE RUSSIANS. I really miss the time without tourists, it was a great time.

  14. Forgot to mention Hua Hin as one of my top ten places to avoid. No thanks. Just another paradise lost. What a crap hole.

I went to Samui for the first time this christmas and then I went to Phuket over new year also for the first time.
It was the first and only time, will never go back to either Samui or Phuket again, shithole both of them if you ask me.

There is so much nicer places in Thailand but I will not tell you where.. ;-)

A couple of months ago you were planning a move to Phuket.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/783883-move-to-phuket/

You were given lots of good advice about how to live there as an expat. Did you ignore it all and just head to Bangla Road on your brief visit?

Perhaps Isaan is calling your name.

O yes I was given lot´s of advice and thanks for that.
We spend 8 days in Phuket traveling around for hours everyday with our car and with motorbike to explore and look for places to live.
The area we liked was Rawai and Naiharn Beach. But I also understood it has to be stone dead there in low season and the rental prices was just a big joke.
The prices in general in Phuket was ridiculous and the traffic is terrifying.
If you in some reason end up close to Chalong circle you start looking for that red bull that gives you wings..

And I haven't even mentioned the Russians we met..

I'm thankful for the advices but Phuket is never gonna happen for me/us.

We will stay in Hua Hin.

  15. I never speak of the places i travel to. Soon or later the sex tourists with the help of the bar girls will follow. Hippie Wannabe/Gap year idiot soon not far behind. As soon as one English sign appears it is only a matter of months if not a year the mobs will follow. Have moved more than once because of this. I moved to Thailand to live with the Thais. If i wanted to hang with a bunch of mostly obnoxious very questionable low quality human beings i would just stay in what i call the foreign slums. They are like sheep . Once word gets out and they are able to drink booze non stop and dine at their favorite Burger King or Pizza Hut kiss paradise goodbye. Never have understood the logic. Travel so far and hang with the same group you left behind, eat the same crap food, watch tv and basically treat the Thais like crap.

Samui is paradise lost like so much of Thailand. Wall to wall shops , obnoxious foreigners and obnoxious Thais. 16. Oh Your talking about the infamous Kho San Road - Full Moon Party morons. Or hippie wannabes. What a great bunch.

Every thing has changed- I really believe the golden age for travel has gone- anywhere remote is now filled with back packers with dubious personal hygiene.
The major cities are a nightmare- just so crowded- cheap flights pour in every where.
Samui certainly used to be a pleasant destination , last time I was there- a huge screen on the beach showing football ( the most boring sport in the world), those idiots waving fire around and trance playing- it's all so banal and predictable.

  17. The biggest mistake the Thais can make is to copy us foreigners. Don,t worry a crash is coming they will never forget. Back to the grass hut.

have to wonder when they are going to start teaching thais how to manage their money and not take out higher purchase on cars, homes etc when they simply dont earn enough to pay for it. It amazes me how many buy a new car then cant afford to buy food or even the fuel to drive it, it seems face is too high on their lists & that it even surpasses their wife and families well being/survival.

  19. Drunks, loud mouthed and uncouth. I think that explains about everything.

    Not worth voting.

The poll is far to simplistic and not really relevant to the causes of the problem between 'tourists' and the average Thai.

The situation is complex, but some points to consider are:

    • Many tourists spend more money in one day than an average Thai earns in a month. This income disparity makes many Thais feel inferior to the tourists, and the Thais, quite frankly, resent that. This feeling of inferiority is often inflamed when Tourists , often unconciously, flaunt their relative wealth. Many Thai vendors, working long hours for a small salary compared to the tourist, see the tourist parading their "wealth" about in tourist areas.
    • Many tourists so not attempt to consider the Thai cultural point of view ...... to many Thais that shows them to be stupid, arrogant, and pompous.
    • And also, many "tourists" that Thais meet in "Tourist venues" are drunks, loud mouthed and uncouth, and hardly good ambassadors for thier fellow country men and women. Unfortunately that is what many Thais regard as the "average" farang. One 'bad apple" spils the whole bushel ..... and that 'bad apple" is what many Thais see as their first example of the normal Farang.

i could go on, but enough said.

So Thais resent tourists because of jealousy....that makes sense to me

  20. Totally agree what you say about the expats. Hardly a day goes by where i don,t see at least one without a huge stick stuck up their butts. Never bother to learn Thai, anything about Thai customs , Thai food, dress like total slobs, often drunk, rude obnoxious and a 24.7 scowl that would scare off anyone. Gee Whiz ! I wonder why the Thais might not think highly of them. Oh i forgot about the twenty something trophy bar girl covered in skin prints they have dragging behind them. Shows serious low class. Trailer trash foreigners. Not someone i would ever invite home nor want within a mile of me or my Thai friends. Sadly they seem to be flooding into the country by the plane loads. Having said that i have seen numerous clueless tourists i don,t want near me neither.

Think it depends on how one would determine, what is a tourist?

I believe that in general those who visit Thailand as holiday makers create little problems and on the whole are usually well behaved, although of course there are always going to be exceptions to the rule. The problems arise with the longer term foreigners here, the forever tourists doing border hops, breaking the rules or ex-pats that have difficulties adapting to the lifestyles, culture and attitudes of the Thai people, such as failing to learn the language, what is considered as being impolite in Thai society and dressing inappropriately and even having bad attitudes towards their fellow ex-pats, therefore coming across as being arrogant, rude and distinctive from the Thais in a bad light, making themselves stand out more as not even partially assimilating into the environment that brings more attentions onto them if one or a few step out of line causing problems that I guess tars us all with the same brush in the eyes of the Thais.

In answer to the OP`s question, no, I don`t believe there is a clash between Thais and the genuine tourists, but not to say that there isn`t low tolerance levels between Thais and the long term foreigners here.
