Words
that are impossible to pronouncethat I still cannot say?Honey, sure, I have heaps of money ... lets go to MBK ... take all the Family, heck, invite the neighbours!
Sorry sipi ... I'll get my coat!
Can you leave your coat behind David? The brother-in-law "borrowed" mine.
Ok, "I'll give you 600 baht for it".
"You want 1000 baht"
"700, final offer"

There are some Thai words I simply cannot say.
Take "hand" for example. The closest I can get is "meuueauuarrr"
One of my wifes friend's name is "Aiew". She doesn't mind, but sometimes I feel embarrassed calling her "Eh you", which is as close as I can get.
There are many more. Can you think of any?

Getting drunk and diving 20 feet into 4 feet of water isn't bright. Just one example. It almost seems "cool" to die overseas.

Well, I'll admit, I'm lost ...
Anyone got a roadmap to this thread?
It is strangely disjointed, much like me.

The other 0.02% are plain stupid. I would like to use the word "unlucky". but the info is out there these days.
The problem with that statement is that well more than 0.02% of them do stupid things.
It's only by the grace of God (and being on the right side of statistics) that I survived the stupid stuff I have done, especially when I was young, bulletproof and loaded with beer muscles.
If every tourist who did stupid stuff were to get what the 0.02% get, there wouldn't be many tourists returning home...
And let's face it, a lot of people are reasonable, sane, smart, and in the wrong place at the wrong time. The odds probably improve for them, but some of them just get on the wrong side of statistics.
There are the ones that simply should know better, and come back in a box.

I'm Australian. I have been coming to Thailand regularly since 1986 (Since I was twenty-something). I sky-dive ,drink, scuba dive, ride motorbikes..(obviously not at the same time)
Where are these kids going wrong?
They're just on the wrong side of statistics.
99.98% of them go home alive.
The other 0.02% are plain stupid. I would like to use the word "unlucky". but the info is out there these days.

Where do I start, and finish? Some skills are good, others I won't talk about.

"So, rant over. Time for bbq again and sure nobody gets anything from me. Buy your own bbq.
"
Funny!!

I have a photo of my son trying to climb into the fridge, but am having trouble uploading it (will keep trying). With the aircon on, there is water (condensation) running down the outside of the windows. I normally don't mind the heat, but this is ridiculous.

"Have only ever been an in patient twice, and for treatment (sods law) not covered by my insurance, 2 day stay, no surgery, medication only and consultation 25000 Baht."
Dear OP, you were screwed.
"I would be quite happy to be in an English style ward, but such is not available at top hospitals in Thailand."
I don't usually offer references, I don't like hospitals, and I'm not religious...But..

"Would you have let him use a brand new motorbike?"
NO.

I can't win the television remote control from my wife and son, both of whom are dual Thai/ Aussie citizens. What chance do I have of winning a war?

All the best.

Can she cook?
Hey Sipi:
Can you cook?
Just so you understand ahead of time, if the answer's yes, it doesn't mean I want to marry you.
You are safe. I can't cook, and certainly not up to sex 3 times a night.

YOU MUST BE JOKING ...And before we get too carried away. This isn't intended to become a Thai tradesmen bashing thread. More a DIY bashing thread.
Thai Visa is the home and master of bashing everything Thai ... culture, work habits, character, etc ... it's the perfect storm of Europeans bashing everything that doesn't fit into their neat little home-grown version of perfection.
... I used to read the Phuket Gazette letters to the editor and laugh at how ridiculous the comments could get ... until I found this place and realized how endemic it is.
The truth is that many Thai people are excellent tradesmen, but they're busy working for real companies, not coming over to fix your silly little problems at your ridiculous excuse for a proper wage!
I'm not likely to post here again, as I'm embarrassed at how racist and ridiculous people here sound.
DIY: do it yourself. Nothing to do with tradesmen.

I should have defined "temporary" better in my opening post.
Gardens, trelises, bird cages, chicken pens, outdoor eating areas, light fencing, clothes lines...
That sort of thing.

Let me know how long it takes you to build your 3 bed bamboo house every 5 years...........if your lucky.
Let me know when you are in your 70,s trying to build it too.
In the meantime Ill sit snug in my "built once" concrete house.
Let me know if your bamboo house burns down?
What you gonna use for a roof, I think David's Mother in law has some rather attractive roofing available ( if you collect late at night)
Look out for 3 little pigs and a dirty great wolf
Yes we also have the concrete house with tile roof, aircon, hot water, sat tv....
My original post was about garden edging etc

Is there a Doctor(real one) on the forum?
I need to get some info....thanks
If you can't find an inhouse Dr weegee, seriously get him to the mission hospital. They literally saved my sons life and treated us like royalty. I couldn't be bothered doing an insurance claim and paid cash. A few hundred dollars (equivalent) for 3 nights and a mountain of tests, intravenus medication etc.

How many Farang live with Thai inlaws?

My in-laws are our neighbors; both sides, and across the road. I honestly can't complain.
