It's the loudmouths screaming into their phone whilst the plane is waiting for push-back that annoy me.
"Yes, my international investment portfolio is bla bla bla".
Shut the <deleted> up. We dont want to hear that crap, and you aren't fooling anyone. -
They could buy three seats in economy and lift the arm-rests up. One cheek on each seat and a spare in between.

So instead of making asses of themselves in Thailand, they can do it in Bali.
Same objective, different place.
The only ones inconvenienced were everyone else.

If my dog was as ugly as you I would shave it's arse and train it to walk backwards.

When Australians greet each other with "Good day, how the bloody hell are you?"
It sounds like "gawawayayawaya".

An email is physical evidence. Print it out and take it to the cops in Australia.

I use it to wind my Mrs up, playfully...
"Which shirt should I wear Darling?"
"Up to you"
"Should I have a coffee?"
"Up to you"
"Should I go to the toilet?"
"Give me a break Sipi"

I have been asked (as recently as two weeks ago) to provide a "letter of introduction" by the Australian DIAC for people visiting Australia from Thailand, fullstop. (but this is none of your business, nor what the thread is about)
The purpose of an invitation letter is to provide evidence that the applicant is a bona fide tourist (in a nutshell). I am neither defending nor attacking these principles.
Anyway, back to my OP...
So are there any disadvantages/ advantages of Thailand introducing such measures?
-
If you look on the VFS site, required documents, it mentions a Support document and specifically calls it a letter of introduction.
Nope, people from 36 countries can get an eVisitor visa online for Australia for $20 in a day. No letter of invitation needed.
List of countries here:
http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/601-
Click on applicants, then "who could get this visa"
Hi Esk,
That is called an electronic visa,
a letter of invitation is just slightly different. Nice try.

Yep. Next.A lot of countries with good tourism require an invitation letter, Australia and some EU countries included.
I am neither in favor nor apposed to this concept, but interested if it would work in Thailand.
Australia requires an invitation letter? Some EU countries?
not Australia mate, all you need is a visa which you get by explaining why you want to visit there & the duration of your visit, the reason is they want to make sure you are not going to do a runner once you arrive so possibly a reference helps in some cases but an invitation letter is not needed. Dont know where you got that from but it is not true, I know many people that visit there without them, someones been pulling your leg
That is so funny,
I can't believe the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship have been pulling my leg.
Briliiant...

I can see this post being hijacked. By tomorrow, needing a letter of introduction, will be quoted as fact. A new law etc.
Then the posts about they hate us westerners, this new law shows they dont want us here etc etc.
Sit back and watch.
Sit back and watch 555.

If you don't know what a letter of invitation is don't reply, or google it first.

Since when did Australia require a letter of invitation for a tourist? What country are you from because I have never been asked for a letter of invitation. Normally letters of invitation are associated with business. You say other countries ask for it but you dont mention which countries these are
No idea how long it has been in. Possibly decades.

20/30 years ago Thailand was an adventure. A bit like Kenya or Nepal used to be back then.
Not any more.

Might keep some of the riff-raff out.
who defines riff raff and where does it end?
The Immigration Department. Where it ends is up to them, same as other countries.

Australia does not require any invitation letter for a tourist visa; and I have not heard of any European country asking for one. It also does not make any sense at all, since most tourists do not know any locals or have any contacts with a tour agency before arriving in the country.
Pointless thread based on nonsense...
I can't be bothered explaining it. Try google.

I have provided three letters of invitation for Thai friends going to Australia in the last year.
It is a common practice, I can recall requiring invitation letters over 30 years ago.

Jeez. Stupid at best for country so dependent on tourism. Is this being lobbied by Thai dating sites or something?
No idea. Try google.

Do you keep a diary?

Or have you ever kept a diary?
I can't remember what I did yesterday but sometimes I wish I had written a few things down.
I have been reading some diary entries from some ancestors and am finding them most interesting.
Maybe in the new age of social media, diaries are a thing of the past.
