  1. Bump!

Yangon airport has no visa on arrival or am I missunderstanding things completely? I need to apply for the e visa before hand? Seems it can be acquired  in a day or less so no problem really. But I didnt really think and booked a flight to yangon in a week and I have less then 24 hours at the airport before return to Thailand, just to get a visa excempt. I pressumed it would be ok since doing land crossing they just stamp you in and out, not the same in airport? Can I stay at the airport or do I have to leave? I read something about not being able to stay at the airport in a tripadvisor thread from years and years ago. Thx!

That is the right way to think about visa exempt entries by land when spending a lot of time in Thailand. Use them only in emergencies, usually when an expected visa does not materialize.

You think using up your two per year is frowned upon or might be by immigration staff? I have no idea it might be so.

Also I think maybe limit setv applications to two per consultate/embassy to avoid red stamp. Or just hope for the best what do I know.

No guarantees - but so far, no reports of denials.  Be sure to check what documents they want to see, as they are more strict than Vientiane, in this respect.

The last time I went (over a year ago) I needed to show a Hotel-Booking or Condo Lease, a Bank Statement with a balance over 20K Baht equivalence (can be a foreign bank), a Flight out of Thailand within 90-days (some advise 60-days, since 90 would include an extension, but I was OK with 90 when I did it).

Guarantees  dont exist in Thailand, im well aware : )

Bank statement is no problem, and I always carry copy of rental agreement.

Vientiane "honors" red-stamps from any consulate.  I reported this over a year ago - my "red stamp" was from Phnom Penh, and I was denied at Vientiane.  This, after no problems at Savannakhet with the same Phnom Penh "red stamp" present.  Fortunately, I had no visa-exempts for years (by land or otherwise), so no problem using one to enter at the Friendship Bridge into Nong Khai.

If you already have 2 land-border visa-exempts in 2018, you could go down to Savannakhet and get a Tourist Visa there, with the proper documentation (bank-statement, flight-out, etc).

Ah ok! Good too know Savannakhet is an option if red stamp in passport.

Did they take the application and money, or just decline to take the application?

    Didnt take the application.

I was under the false impression the only thing you had to do was change embassy/consulate. Should have read up more on the red stamp. And the visa company shouldnt have taken my money knowing about this.

Lesson learned. Tomorrow i have to "pay" my way in to thailand on my 3d visa excempt and then its off to Bkk for a new passport.

  6. If you go, please leave us feedback on the latest requirements. In particular, is the rumored requirement for a ticket to your home country being enforced?
Its gonna be a while until I go, probably 3 months. Vientiane for setv and then a new passport. According to visa company ticket out of Thailand not to home country. The list she sent me did not include the rule about max. 100 applicants per day I might add also.

One of those Companies makes the trip to Panang on Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed. - They use accommodation at a well-known visa agents guest house,  So if they say no change why not believe them? The last thing they need is dissatisfied customers.

Hmm yeah Im well aware when the companies make trips and that some use Banana, others Swiss hotel. I havent said I beleive or disbeleive any one. If you read the thread you will see the info about the "big change" came from an agent in Penang. Anyway it wouldnt suprise me if Banana for example could work their magic, perhaps for an extra thousand baht, whatever the issue is. But im also very keen on some feedback from some one who actually made the trip recently.

Confirm what. That they give a tourist visa no matter how many previous visas you had?

Nobody can confirm 100%. Things are changing every day. One's experience today does not reflect another one's tomorrow.

Penang seems to be changing. Developing story.

Personally, I would focus on Vientiane, Savannakhet, HCMC, Hanoi, Yangon, Hong Kong, Bali as being a safe bet.

Would not try KL despite some good reports.

Phnom Penh is a maybe with a relatively clear passport but not sure it would be my cup of tea. And it takes too long.

If I forgot any, others can add.

Eeeh, confirm wether or not you need a ticket to your home country or not, the topic of the thread my friend.
