  1. If people want to be alcoholics, let them make the decision yourself, why care about what other people do?

New edict not yet implemented I guess. Give it a few days.
Enforcing existing Laws? Only law now is Martial Law, ie whatever the CiC Army, Head of Junta and PM say is the law today.
    Oh, they`re the same person!

CM has been bending over backward to back Minister of Happiness since April when they had to check Northern Army would not oppose coup. Also that was when CM refused my 4th annual retirement extension but I`m not bitter.

This alcohol crack down will be enforced against Farang bars and hang outs I bet. The junta seems anti-western, anti ASEAN and pro Chinese. You don`t need a weather man to know which way the wind blows.

At a loss. Why is the statement anti farang?

Too many alcoholics among the farangs and too many farangs doing crazy things while drunk. I welcome a crackdown. I like a good pint, like my name indicates, but under control and never harming the interests if others.
  2. are you communist?

While I agree with some of these new rules there are many more ramifications than just promoting alcohol, the first being loss of employment. From beer girls, event planners and sponsorships to huge losses in advertising revenue, print and electronic. This all happening at a time when unemployment is on the rise. I'm not sure how well thought out this was but more knee jerk reactions from the junta it seems. Some people will be losing a lot of sleep over this

  3. They have better roads in Thailand than they have here in Norway, i think the roads in thailand is it`s good, of 192 countries so come thailand on 32 place when it comes to road standard.

How about finally building some proper expressways (limited access roads) from Bangkok to 1) Nong Khai 2) Chong Mek 3) Chiang Khong via Chiang Rai 4) a spur from Lampang to Chiang Mai 5) Sadao 6) extension Pattaya-Rayong and upgrading of Chonburi to Pattaya which is in horrible condition for a so-called "expressway"?

China and Malaysia have managed to do it, but Thailand just keeps expanding the main trunk routes, which have both local and long distance traffic and those scary u-turns are still there, despite the fact that they are so deadly.

Still a long way for Thailand to go I'd say. And meanwhile after just 6 months absence from any small or medium sized Chinese city and I can't recognize the place anymore. 10 years ago however, the roads in Thailand were almost the same as they are now, except for a few token lane additions on Bang Pa-in to Nakorn Sawan and the eastern outer ring road. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

  4. Thinking about taking up work in Thailand? The good news is that the Thai government has fixed minimum wages for foreigners working in Thailand which are obviously significantly higher than the minimum wages for Thai people. There are four different types, depending on the employee’s country of origin.

    • 50,000 Baht/month: Western European Countries, Australia, Canada, Japan, and USA
    • 45,000 Baht/month: South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong
    • 35,000 Baht/month: Asian Countries, South America, Eastern European Countries, Central American Countries, Mexico, Turkey, Russia and South Africa
    • 25,000 Baht/month: African Countries, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam

On top of that comes income tax and payments into the social fund. this is litle bit <deleted> up, foreginer from vietnam, laos, cambodia, myanmar and singapore have more minimum wage then the local, when the minimum wage in singapore for pepole there is 25.000bath a month(1000$)

I am not sure if this help you but this was my experience.

we are trying to open a limited company with my thai girlfriend, I worked in IT several years and she too, we have a real online business purpose, and to operate internationally we need to use gateway payments and other things that only work with non personal business, limited company is ok.

In Thailand for open limited company she need 2 partners more, the owners that can be friends or family with a percentage of investment, she need 1M to show in some way, but with the advice of accounting and business thai people she can do it as a temporal loan and just pay 15k to do all the paperwork registration and finally the 1M baht is not needed (ok this seems illegal but apparently for thai people is just a paperwork to be done)

    Work Visa part
She asked about what she need get me a visa, the Non B and a work permit can be done but as a worker, I can't be one of the owners probably because the complexity and the upper amount of investment (I think was 2M but now after the crackdown the amount is bigger from 3M to 10M) still not sure, but to get the work permit they will do all the paperwork for 30k

But you need to count that for 1 farang worker you need to add 4 thai people worker so in the case of the limited company we have 3 owners, 1 farang 4 thai people workers

you need to pay the medical stuff to the government (sorry don't not how to call it) that is the percentage of the income is around 5-10%

I don't know the minimum salary for thai people (at this point I just reject the offer) but should be 6 or 8 k per month

The amount was 3,6k per month for the 4 thai people (probably there is a law about the minimum when a farang is on the team)

    and for the farang more

the minimum income for a farang based in the actual thai rule is depending from your nationality

Europe and North America 50k per month

    Japan, Korea, Singapore etc 45k

Russia, Eastern Europe, South America and South Africa 35k
    Africa, Asia 25k

At this point we are just starting and really no way to contract Thai people, I usually work by projects and subcontract from my income, impossible to contract 4 thai to get them idle in a small office, but for she is pretty good since she can operate from any country remotely while we traveling, not need to contract more people in that terms.

  5. yeah !!! clap2.gif clap2.gif

I flew out from Suvarnabhumi Sunday afternoon. Paid my 20.000 Baht fine for little over 3 years overstay. Signed a lot of papers and promised not to do it again as they made sure I knew that new rules was about to take effect, then I was of to Phnom Penh. Got the tourist visa from the embassy there, and Friday afternoon I was back in Suvarnabhumi, and got my 2 months visa. No questions asked, did´nt even raise an eyebrow..in fact the immigration officer barely looked at me.

Thanks for you advice people ! And to the haters.... I DID IT BECAUSE I COULD !

IF YOU CAN´T UNDERSTAND WHY I COULDN'T SIMPLY OBEY LAW AND ORDER IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVEN'T BEEN HERE LONG ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS ONE THING THAT IS ABOVE ALL LAW AND ORDER IN THIS COUNTRY...... and that thing is called MONEY !!!!!

    Next step education visa

This was my last post here, so don't bother haters....I wont be reading any more replies to this topic !

  6. Could be the staff hired , better people in LAOS ?? They need to standardize all consulates and get rid of that little catch all "may require additional " . Had a problem at US consulate when I lost a passport , wanted my birth certificate . I said wait a minute I will go to the 7-11 and get one . We argued about that for weeks , I had all kinds of ID . Finally got my passport without my birth certificate . But the upper people in Thai consulates hide in a back room and you can't see them or talk to them .facepalm.gif facepalm.gif facepalm.gif facepalm.gif

i think the thai embassy in bali is good, they can give me trippel-entry torist visa, someone the this forum told me that, but i never try, i only have a single tourist visa, i get that visa in lao 1 years ago, im not in thailand now.

  7. I arrived to Suvarnabhumi on the morning of August 12. No problems for me (I have Non-imm M with re-entry permit), but the guy in the line next to me was getting a hard time because he had no visa and no proof of onward travel within 30 days... He appeared to be a mainland European, probably Dutch, German, Belgian or somewhere in that vicinity. I got through before his situation had been resolved, but the officer servicing him had left his desk and apparently gone to see a supervisor. Not sure what ended up happening. I've arrived many times on a 30-day stamp with no proof of onward travel and never had a problem at immigration -- could be an early sign of the new crackdown.

i think the reason was he dont have return ticket within 30days.

  8. Under immigration's guidelines you do not fit the profile of being a in/out visa runner so you will not have a problem. But I do suggest you do have a ticket out of the country to show if asked for it.

Later if you plan on staying longer than 30 days you should get a tourist visa.

Getting a new passport will not help because they can and do a name and date of birth search of their database that will show your previous entries and will link it to you new passport.

    okei. thanks

  9. Hi, I wonder if it could be an advantage for me to get me a new passport, my passport is filled in and the piston in thailand, why it is forde I was lazy last time I was in Thailand in getting me visa, so I went on a visa run to malaysia every 30 days or every 15 days Cambodia, I know the new rules from August 12 to understand, but am afraid I will be refused entry to thailand 9september I have been in Norway since June 12 plain view as I live 3månder in Norway to 4.6 months in Thailand in the year, so I go much back to back, it would be advantageous to have a new passport? like that for security reasons.
