  1. I have used my Thai license in Laos as has my Thai wife and some of her relatives. (they do some trading business over there). I'm quoting what would seem to be a reliable and current info source. (May 22nd 2024) What's your info source?
  2. What's all this about not being able to drive in Indonesia? A Thai driving license can be used in place of an international driving permit in 10 ASEAN countries. The smart card driving license can be used to drive in all 10 countries: Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. https://www.cwc.co.th/en/thai-driving-license-valid-in-10-asean-countriesdid-you-know/
  3. Does it matter? For heaven's sake does it really, really matter?
  4. Your only issue seems to revolve around your lifestyle and you don't need anyone to tell you that there are two key changes that you can make to improve your health Quit smoking and quit drinking. Do you really need to pay a doctor to tell you that? Regarding your bronchitis, there are plenty home remedies that can improve your breathing that you can explore. There are plenty of helpful tips in the web site below. But quit smoking first! https://www.healthline.com/health/home-remedies-for-bronchitis Learn to take charge of your own health, it really can pay dividends. That has always been my approach and I'm fit and healthy at 78. If you want to learn more about my approach to fitness and health, go and visit this website. I’ve practice this art for many years and it’s done me a power of good. https://flowingzen.com/start-here/
  5. Thank you but I don't believe purely in luck, as in fate. I believe that we 'create our own luck'. I've studied and practiced modalities that enhance health and fitness for many years and at 78 years old my hospital bills remain at zero. By living sensibly I mean healthy eating and strictly limiting alcohol and caffeine intake. Adequate sleep and daily exercise. But I still ride my motorcycle despite the risks. That's something I still very much enjoy. Take good care of yourself, you're worth it.
  6. Yes, I agree. This why I have absolutely refused to take out medical insurance. I believe in living sensibly with regards to diet, exercise and above all adopt a positive attitude with regards to my health, both physical and mental and so far it's worked. I'm 78 years now and I have never had to consult a doctor for any illness nor have I ever had a check up.
  7. '1 minute's effort' is 1 minute more than I currently have to make getting my pension paid directly into Krungsri. As you correctly say, the interest I might make isn't worth the effort.
  8. Confucius said: "Life is really simple' but we insist on making it complicated'. There is nothing simpler than getting the state pension paid four weekly directly into a Thai bank account. The exchange rate is very reasonable, around the mid market rate and there is only a very small charge for that service. The DWP will only pay pensions into an account in the claimant's name unless there is a very good reason for using an alternative. I get zero interest on my UK bank account, so even the miserly rate I get here in Thailand beats that! The chances of a pension from the UK attracting any tax payments here in Thailand are, IMO just about zero, so forget it.
  9. Why would all these chancers want to get upwind?
  10. Possibly when a bloody great Pajero ran into him.
  11. Who's Peter Drury?
  12. I think you have the answer to your issue right here. Go by feel. If it feels right and the pressures are not radically different from the norm, then that's probably the pressure you need. Don't over think it, just go by feel.
  13. Don't you get a 'virtual certificate' when you've completed the online video lectures? I'm sure I had to show them the app on my phone when I went for my appointment.
  14. Your classic western style spoon would be an unlikely weapon, however one of these might fit the bill. I've just tried it (hypothetically of course) by placing the spoon end in the palm of my hand and the sharp pointy handle sticking out of my fist. I reckon that could do the job. SAS/SEAL types would probably see it as the perfect improvised weapon.
  15. Yes it confuses me as well. Thai law does prohibit polygamy and the 2nd paragraph in the O/P is somewhat vague isn't it.
  16. Yes, exactly that. No polygamous marriages are allowed in Malaysia after 1 March 1982, so nothing to do with the colonial era. But it gets confusing because Shariah law does permit polygamy, so I guess these couples come over here in order to circumvent Malaysian federal laws.
  17. You obviously need a geography lesson. Southeast Asia is composed of eleven countries of impressive diversity in religion, culture and history: Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
  18. I don't understand why folks are having trouble finding good tomatoes. My wife buys all our fresh produce on the local markets and the ones she serves up are excellent. In fact good tomatoes are now being produced on small holdings around our village. It's all part of crop diversification away from the 'rice only culture'. And they too are very nice.
  19. That is outrageous! Why on earth isn't the immigration complaints hotline buzzing with indignation?
  20. I'll bet folks who live out in sticks are just a bit peeved about that. That's daylight robbery, pure and simple.
  21. No I am not poor because I don't chuck away my money paying someone to do what I can so easily do myself. And includes extensions which I've also been doing myself for the last 11 years. IMO using agents feeds the corruption that is so rife here.
  22. That has got to be the ultimate in laziness. You don't even need to get out of bed to do an on-line report!
  23. I always do mine as soon as the 15 days period begins, just in case there is a delay in the system. There never has been, but you never can tell. There is nothing to be gained by hanging on until the last day.
  24. Then maybe one was 'logged on' at the time and the other not. Lazada relies on the post code to calculate the total cost. I do not believe for one moment that Lazada operates 'dual pricing'. Any difference in price is down to location. I presume the same also applies to Shopee
  25. From immigration's own website: Conditions for receiving notice of residence more than 90 days online - Submit a request in advance before the due date for the next report within 15 days. https://tm47.immigration.go.th/manual/IndexForeign.html Take your pick.
